I'm starting an RP of my own. This is one that I've done a few times now with widely varying results. So I'll make it simple for you. Join me and have fun playing out a simple scenerio. I have simple rules and am easily pleased.

The next post will be rules, then the scenario at which I hint, and finally the easy profile you will provide to join. Easy enough eh? ^'^ I knew you'd think so. So go on, scroll down already and read what else there is.
PostPosted: Tue Mar 01, 2011 2:36 am

Rules:

1. I am the ruler of this RP, not you. So I make the decisions.
2. No Godmoding. You want to fight me over it? I dare you.
3. Do I even have to tell you to follow the Gaian TOS? Didn't think so.
4. You want to kill someone's character? Fine, but both me and the owner of said character must approve. I like death matches, but not unprepared slaughter.
5. All posts must be literate and be longer than three sentences. If you can't spell, use spell check. If you are a oneliner, this RP is not for you. Go away.

If anyone breaks these rules, or tests me beyond my near limitless patience. . . well let's not get into that. Let's all just have fun and play nice together. Shall we?

Scenerio:

The world has gone through many ages, some of destruction, some of life. Constantly changing and reforming. In this age, the world has started again after an age of destruction. All life is in a humble state, trying to survive the harsh landscapes. Technology is simple, without the use of guns or science. Town's with sturdy buildings are created from sandstone or other nearby materials.

Forests have started to appear again at both the north and south poles, but their vastness is nothing compared to the almost infinite realm of sand that blankets the rest of earth. Water is scarce and a coveted luxury. Small towns converge around oasis's, where water is pumped up from underground lakes. The forests are teamed with vile creatures, often stealing the wandering soul that draws too near.

But even here, there are brave travelers, ones who go from village to village and trade goods, or services. In the distance of many of the villages, remnants of the past remain. Skeletal structures, spikes of steel that jut up to the sky from beneath the dunes. Another evil lurks there, one that no one dares venture to meet.

All of the towns are individually run, in several different fashions. Some are democratic in a sense, lead by a mayor of sorts, while some are held together by a monarchy where one leading family rules over the town. These are examples but in no way the only ways the villages are politically set up. In most places there are too small of populations to have military groups, but a sense of authority is present.

Players are either humans, hybrids or Nobles. (Humans are dying off as war, famine and the elements take their toll. Those that thrive are hearty and adaptive. Though they are not evolving like their cousins the hybrids, humans are just as strong and just as stubborn as always. Most humans are more suited to traveling from town to town than settling, vise versa for hybrids.)(Hybrids are most common in this age, where some homo sapiens have branched off to adapt to the harsh environments. This can be left up to the player as far as physical appearance, however hybrids are not much different than regular humans, so they aren't invincible, or anything over the top. If I have a problem with any traits of the character, I will promptly address them.) (Nobles are another species all together, though they look human enough. They do not age, or have a limited lifespan. In this age it is rare to find a Noble, most having gone underground in secret temples. Many are indifferent towards the well being of life topside. A bad reputation has spread that Nobles, once known to protect, now will kill if approached. Whether it is true or not, Nobles are also known to follow a strict code of honor.)

Objectively, this rp is about survival. How well can you survive in the age best known as the Lost Generation?

yay we're almost done!! Just fill out this form and PM it to me so I can put it on the list of characters at the beginning for everyone to see. k? BTW, you can have multiple characters, but you have to fill one of these out for each one. If you want a pet you have to have it approved by me first. Morning begins early as the sun peaks over the top over the nearby dunes. Already the temperature is starting to climb, making the sand shift and resettle. Between the high crests of two such peaks nestles a small village with fabric domes that billow in the gentle winds.

The town of Akila is an ever changing collection of wandering merchants, water finders, and nomads who use it as a pit stop before heading out again. As people arrive, more tents are added to the patchwork amoeba. Trade is abundant in the towns center, where water finders are more clustered. Many acquire the talents of water finders before they set out, hoping to increase their chances of finding small deposits along their journey where towns are far and few between.

Steadily, a figure robed in a worn brown cloak climbs the far dunes to look upon the town below. Looking down on the huddled tents with sky blue eyes, the woman scans the surrounding desert before making her way down the slope. Her eyes downcast, she makes her way unobtrusively towards the open flap into the bustling life within.

It is shaded inside than out in the open sun, making her lower her hood further. It would not do for them to fear her before she could get beyond the entrance. With a nod to the men who idly sat around, she made her way to the larger tents that housed the trade posts.

Out on the fringes of the dead lands Karcook woke. He had been spending the last few days searching for metals. Out here steel and iron were easy to find. He had managed to get plenty of each. However on this day he was searching for copper and gold, which were proving much more challenging to find. He found many old copper coins scattered about and a gold necklace, but it wasn't enough for what he had planned to do. Karcook glanced over at Azmerel as she was hunched over looking through some rubble.
What have you found?

Azmerel turned and looked over at her master. Her cold blue eyes emotionless.
Only a few copper coins my master. There doesn't seem to be much out here.

Sneering, Karcook stomped off. This was starting to prove frustrating, at this pace his machine wouldn't even be started until next month. This was not acceptable. Karcook had to sit and think for a bit. After a few minutes Karcook grinned.
My dear I have a plan, we aren't going to find much on the fringes of the deadlands, we must venture inwards to find what we need.

Azmerel looked back at her master, her eyes as cold and emotionless as ever.
Won't that be our deaths my lord?

No my dear it won't, we have with us some of the most deadly weapons ever created since before the fall of humans. Anything that decides to even look at us will meet its end.
With that he grinned and picked up one of his latest inventions. It looked a lot like an old fashioned rifle but it was made completely out of a some kind of plastic. It also had what looked like an old battery pack attached at the bottom. Karcook raised the weapon to his shoulder and took aim. Suddenly a tree of in the distance exploded into pieces and electrical sparks could be seen scattering about. Grinning Karcook turned to Azmerel.
Lets go.

For several days unblinking eyes watched from the blackened structures of the dead lands. They knew what lurked just beyond the boundaries of shadow. As the sun rose they ducked back into cover, hissing at the light. Closer, now. They were much closer now than before. The scent of prey drew many more than the day before. Soon, yes very soon they would be able to taste meat. From the shadows of the dead lands, a malevolence grew.

The spikes of the past broke the otherwise featureless horizon around Akila. They were far enough away to not be within the dead lands shadow, but close enough to be a constant reminder of how destructive life used to be.

Reaching the trade center, the woman lifted her blue eyes to the brighter lit area. Flaps in the ceiling provided adequate light, as did various fires from food vendors. Many people crowded around the post that traded water. Sidestepping the crowds, she made her way to another post that was almost as busy. Water finders bartered left and right for their services, while keeping note of going rates and goods in demand.

Pulling out a slip of fabric, the woman set the note before a man at a table that dealt with payment. Thick bearded and sharp eyed, the man took the fabric and felt the weaving. With a nod he motioned for her to go to the tent next door. Without a word, she turned and entered the closed off area.

For hours Karcook and Azmerel wandered around within the dead lands. They didn't venture too far in too ensure that if needed, they could still run out and make it to the safety of their base. Every now and then Karcook would shoot at sounds he heard coming from the shadows. He wasn't exactly sure what laid in wait but he didn't want whatever it was to get too curious about them. They managed to find more then they were before but still not enough coper or gold to Karcook's satisfaction.
After continuing on for a little while longer karcook decided to stop.

My dear, where is my book on ancient human technologies? Ah never mind I found it.Flips through the book. Now where is it...aah here it is. C O M P U T E R...says here humans made a machine that did calculations for them, it was also used for many other things but the most important thing is what it was made of. A few of these would be more than enough components for my newest device.
Karcook holds up the book and points at the picture of the computer.
Search for something that looks like this. It should have more than enough of the precious metals I need.

Azmerel nods and begins scouring the land for the computer things. She didn't much care what the master was planning on making but she was curious as to why he would put his life at risk by venturing straight into the deadlands for the materials for it. Whatever it was it probably will be extraordinary and possibly very destructive.

As the sun rose higher in the sky, the shadows of the spires tilted and swayed accordingly. The higher peaks glinted and sparkled in the light. As the intruders made their way along the piles of half buried rubble, they came across an opening that lead beneath the sand. It appeared man made, with bent iron support beams that sheltered the opening from the sun's intense heat. Cooler air filtered up from below.

Somewhere else a crashing sound echoes through the area. Something metallic and heavy dropped from high in the spires. Sand rose into the air like a heavy cloud before resettling on the dropped object. The sudden change from eery silence to the loud crash makes everything living in the area buzz with sudden energy. Will the prey be hunted, or will the hunters be spotted?

As the flap of the inner tent closed, the Noble looked around the dim light. Her eyes reflected a silvery hue as she took in the plush rugs and fur pillows.

"I knew you would come," a silken voice called softly from deeper within the cloth chamber.

"How could I refuse such an invitation?" the woman answered with a touch of amusement.

Karcook and Azmerel turned suddenly as they heard the loud crash. Karcook pointed back at the man-made hole and Azmerel quickly took out her spear and watched the hole. Karcook readied his pulse rifle and looked around. He wasn't sure what creatures lurked in the deadlands but he didn't want to meet them.

Master are we venturing into the hole or should I collapse it.
Collapse it.

Immediately Azmerel took out some sticks of dynamite they had found on one of their previous ventures. They had discovered how destructive they could be after throwing one into a fire. Azmerel also took out a lighter they had found on the ground. There wasn't much fuel left in it but it would work for this job. She quickly set about placing the dynamite around the hole. The last one, she lite then threw into the hole. She quickly lit the rest and ran for cover. Karcook followed suit. A few seconds later there was a huge explosion, and sounds of confused and startled creatures could be heard in the distance.

Lets get out of here. We can come back in a few days time for the rest. We should have enough to get started at least.

Azmerel nods and they both quickly start running for their camp. The sound of creatures starting to give chase could be heard.
PostPosted: Wed Mar 16, 2011 3:14 pm

The resulting explosion had a far bigger impact that they had anticipated. As the tunnel collapsed, so a rift in the sand began to open. Like a crack in stone, it split the sand until it stopped at one of the spires. A deep boom resounded then the area shuttered. Slowly, the already tilted spire began to sink on one side. Then a shattering sound followed, the top half snapping its support beams and crashing quite suddenly to the ground. Sand rose high into the sky, making vision almost impossible as it blasted in all directions.

"Raaaakkch-chk-ch-k-chk-ch-k-chk-chk," something rattled in a gutteral tone as the two ran passed the spires to open desert. It was answered by several others until their many calls echoed behind and all around them. One or two figures hidden in the shadows of the buildings, followed their quarry, but stayed out of sight.

"I have a job for you," the water finder claimed with a smile. She was young, as clan leaders went, but her eyes shown with a determination that many found endearing in these harsh times. Before she could proceed, the ground beneath their feet moved and vibrated and a sound like thunder rumbled in the dune valley.

"What was that?" The Noble poked her head out the tent when she felt the ground shake. Very little did that these days.

"Go, we will talk later. I must see to my people," her host said dismissively as she rushed out the tent. Akila had fallen silent to hear the crash of the spire, though they could not see it. As the sound faded, the people began to panic and worry about what had caused it.

Before anyone could notice in all the commotion, the Noble made her way back outside. Looking at the high dunes, she frowned. She never liked that about Akila. They couldn't see very far in any direction, which didn't help should a threat appear. Sighing to herself, she ran up the side of the western bank where the only topographical feature were the spires that lay several clicks away.

Karcook could hear something from the shadows, and judging by the sounds it was fast. Suddenly he stopped, turned and fired towards the sounds. A scream could be heard, confirming a hit but Karcook didn't stay there long to see if he had killed it or merely injured the creature. As quickly as he stopped, he turned right back around and continued to run. He could hear the creatures getting desperate and angry. Their pray fought back and was getting away. Structures were still collapsing around them and they were having to dodge falling debris while making sure nothing leaped out at them. Karcook fired another shot to the side of him as he ran. No scream this time but their pursuers seemed to have slowed, given up or changed tactics.
Finally they made it out of the dead lands, but they didn't stop running until they reached their camp. Once they reached their camp they immediately began packing up.

Karcook didn't have to tell Azmerel what to do, having been raised by him she could sense what he wanted done, and at the moment he seemed to want to get back to their home as fast as possible. The villagers nearby will probably have someone out here soon to scout out what happened or someone's curiosity might get the better of them and at the moment they wanted their presence in the area unknown to humans and hybrids.
Make sure you grab all the copper and gold we gathered. I don't want this to have been a waste of time.
Azmerel nodded and shortly after they had all their equipment backed along with their spoils. They then headed off to their home, taking a long zig zagging route in case someone or something decided to follow.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 21, 2011 1:23 pm

Dust and debris fluttered in the air as the Noble got to the top of the dune. Keen blue eyes narrowed at the brightness, but made out two small shapes in the far off distance. The wind was not favoring her today. It was blowing her own scent their way in fact, so she could not tell who they were, but something suggested they had something to do with the resettling of the spires. Those that rose up around the crippled spike swayed slightly before the sands filled in the gaps and supported them equally again.

A short debate allowed her the stay rather than pursue. Her business was in Akila today. Whoever it was that fled, was lucky that they would have one less predator to trail them today. With no desire to venture closer to the deadlands, the Noble turned back to the village. On her way, a few venturous individuals made their way up. With a smile, she nodded and continued on. It was not her place to stop anyone from being curious.

As the day drew closer to an end, the village regained its natural rhythms. Merchants packed up their wares and the nomads took their herds of goats and cattle to wander off as was natural of their ilk. The water finders continued bartering or caring for those that decided to remain.

In the far reach's of the deadlands, the scavengers gathered. The cries of the wounded had long been silenced, but it was not enough. Not nearly. As the shadows began to grow, and the sun lost some of it's blistering heat, a malice grew. The hunt was soon to begin.

Karcook suddenly stopped and turned. He sniffed the air, thinking he was mistaken, but he wasn't. He was being watched by another noble. He scanned the horizon but saw nothing. Taking one last glance he turned back. He motioned to Azmerel and pointed towards an outcropping of rocks they had never gone to before. He didn't like what was going on today and he sure as hell wasn't going to let another noble discover his whereabouts and destroy what he has worked so hard to make.

After a few hours they finally made it to the rock outcropping. They were close to a nearby village. Karcook decided they should rest there while he came up with a plan. Azmerel said nothing as she sat and leaned up against a rock, staring a nothing in particular.

Karcook looked at the village then at what they had left. They had the pulse rifles he had made, Azmerel's spear, two swords, a knife, and one explosive, a grenade according to one of Karcook's books, that he had found the day before. Karcook then looked over at Azmerel and pulled out the grenade.

Lets create a little distraction shall we. Annihilate this village, then cover our tracks and scent as we make our way back home.

Azmerel nodded as she stood back up, holding her spear nonchalantly. She slowly started making her way towards the village as Karcook began to hurl the grenade at one of the nearby houses.
