Reform and Chasidic.

Sometimes is really feels like those are the only two sects of Judaism in the world.

*sigh*

DISCUSS:
Have you ever felt this way about your religion (or your culture if you're atheist like me)?

I feel that way about the Gnostic community. The main thing you see regarding the modern Gnostics when you step outside of the Academic sphere is just a bunch of New Age nutballs being like a Buffalo Bill wearing the skin of these ancient people trying so hard to say that they are but will never be able too. Seriously you get secret Apostolic Successions ranging from pendulum ghost to space aliens. I can share more of the insane bat s**t but it's pretty close to some of the stuff you see in SNF here on Gaia.

To me it feels like most Catholics are more Protestant (but not Anglican or Evangelical) or Atheist, sometimes even New Age pagans, instead of Catholics! Even some of the priests seem that way to me. What happen to receiving the Eucharist in a state of grace? Do y'all even know what that means?! And abortion? Just because everyone else around you thinks it's okay, doesn't mean you stray from the Church's teachings like that. At least educate yourself on WHY we teach why it wrong! gonk

Yeah, I kinda feel that way, too. xp

I think it makes sense to re-assess Tradition occasionally to see whether it's in line with the bible and the teachings of Jesus. If the Catholic church didn't move forward on some issues it would stagnate... Take condoms, for example. Condoms save lives, and it's a damn shame that it took the pope so long to allow it in the case of AIDS.

Although why on earth a gay male prostitute would need to be given permission to use a condom is beyond me. I mean really, if you're going to break rules, why stop there?

Yep, I feel that way sometimes. Unitarian Universalism is, in theory, a religion that values truth in any source and encourages spiritual growth accompanied by reason. However, a common complaint from either side is that UUs are either fluffy types who want to embrace every spiritual tradition available with no regard to logic, or the rational types who will outright insult anyone who professes any religious belief. I actually haven't noticed this too often, and while I'm sure I've been put in the first group by a few people, it doesn't really bother me. But I do know people who have left congregations because of a new-age pastor they couldn't take seriously or because they were Christians who were made to feel unwelcome. I think the moderate majority is too quiet and should be a bit more vocal so we stop scaring people away.
