Her feet hurt, paws tingling from all the walking she'd done today. Ears twitched every time she caught wind of someone whispering, wondering if they were talking about her. She was very much new around here, only having been Erasmus for a few days. It was her hope to possibly land a job here. Ellie wasn't exactly sure why she had chosen to come to this city. At the time, this had been the direction the train had been heading in the last city she'd been in.

Feeling as if she stuck out like a sore thumb, Ellie had stopped into a place she could get a small bit of food and drink from. It was awkward, at least to her, asking in a shy voice for food and drink. Aside from some looks, she got what she ordered and moved towards a table off to the side. With a heavy sigh, Ellie set her traveling pack down at her feet as she sat and slowly started to eat, ears swiveling around as she listened to the conversations taking place.

A flicker at the end of the table caught her eye and she glanced over. Someone had left their paper sitting about. Her ears drooped a little as she contemplated looking through it. Maybe it would give her some sort of inspiration about where to go? Or what city she could head towards if things didn't work out here?

A furred hand slid over and snagged the paper, flipping through the pages as her eyes scanned what was printed. Nothing that applied to her. Like much of this fool hardy idea she'd gotten to travel about looking for work. Her heart became hopeful when she got to the wanted ads, but again, those hopes were dashed the more she read.

About to give up hope, one ad caught her eye. Reading over it carefully, a small bit of hope started to bloom again. A housekeeper? Possible assistant? It didn't specify anything else besides that. Scanning the ad for a second (maybe third) time. The first smile she had really had in a few days spread and she quickly finished her food and drink before gathering up her bag, paper in hand, and heading out again.

Damn her feet really hurt. Even her tail was drooping more than usual, almost between her legs. She was trying not to be too hopeful for this chance, but it was hard not to be!

It took her a good twenty minutes to find the right place (at least she hoped this was the right place; the last house she'd stopped at said this was the one listed in the ad). Taking a moment to try and dust off some of the dirt and ruffle her fur to appear somewhat decent, Ellie took in a deep breath, raised her paw, and gave the door a good firm knock.

The chaos of previous months was all but... gone. The house was usually silent now, no explosions, no running around, no screaming, no having to chase down his assistants and no having to tell his house keeper not to bloody well throw his coffee down the drain - it was not cold, it was room temperature, damnit! All in all, despite the fact that at the time he'd wanted nothing more than to get rid of them all, the moment they'd had to leave (not by his doing, ironicaly enough), the koshka felt... lonely. Dolçe, whom had been his only companion before those girls had arrived, no longer seemed to be enough, and Melvin was loath to admit to it, but honestly, he was doing a poor piss job at handling the large mansion of a house, his work and himself.

After waking up slumped over his work table, absolutely famished, he had decided enough was enough. He submitted an ad to the newspaper, promising a warm ceiling, food but scarce pay to whomever offered themselves up as his housekeeper. If the managed to double over a lab assistant, he'd throw in a bonus too. Unsurprisingly, no one had gotten back to him yet, and it'd been several days since the damned ad had been up. Growing slightly restless, he'd gone about his days tiredly, going through the same routine of working, trying to remind himself to eat, working some more and then collapsing over the work table. That day, he'd woken up with ink smeared over the pale fur of his face, forcing him to retreat to the bathroom to fix up the mess before coming out to enjoy a cup of coffee and his paper.

By the time he'd gotten through half his cup and part of his paper, he heard to knocking and for a moment, he pressed his ears against the back of his head, glaring at the shadows down the hallway. It took him several moments to realize a) he should go get the door b) this was probably (hopefully) someone answering his ad c) ...he was unfortunately in pajamas and robe, but he'd have to deal despite that.

Allowing himself a sigh of exasperation, he folded his paper, slipped it under his arm and walked over to the door, cup of coffee still in hand. He curled his free hand around the knob, yanked the door open and took a sip of coffee. His gaze was on the paper he was now unfolding with is fee hand "I take it you're here because of the ad I posted, correct?" his gaze was off of her, his voice almost monotone, bored even, "If you aren't, I don't care what you're selling I'm not in-" it was right around then that his blue gaze lifted and focused on her and instantly, the koshka stiffened. His eyes widened, his mouth hung open and his hand lost it's grip around the coffee mug, which crashed on the floor, ruining the carpet. Silence settled around them for a beat, and then, the male turned around and slammed the door in the poor girl's face, leaning his back against it, his tail all sorts of puffed out, "Holy s**t it's a six foot DOG!" this was probably heard through the door, because he all but screamed it out, shaking with fear.

Now, it wasn't that Melvin hadn't read about Trent and it's discovery, but... he just honestly hadn't been expecting a Kanus at his door, and his first instinct was to climb as high, far and away as he could from her. And hiss, for good measure. However, seeings as how he couldn't climb, he was going to have to settle with slamming the door. Which he had.

Mentally she was going over the best way to introduce herself. Obviously, she wasn't a local around here. So she wanted to make a really good first impression. It was the only thing that could give her a leg up, if you will, in being the best fit for this job. Not that it was the best job out there. No. But the kanus didn't care about this. She just wanted a job. And maybe a roof to sleep under too. This was all if she didn't get too nervous while standing there and waiting. And waiting. Shifting her weight from foot to foot to try and relieve some of the soreness. Oh crap! What if the resident of the house wasn't even home? Ellie tried to focus on the positive. She could do this job. She was qualified (anyone was probably qualified, but shhh! she was the best qualified!).

Ears perking up, she heard the footfalls approaching the door. The small clicks and noises that went with locks being unlocked and the knob to the door being turned were like boulders crashing together in her ears. For a moment, she felt a kernel of panic grip her. What if they took one look at her, scowled, gave her the finger and told her to go fetch somewhere else. Where could she go after this? Hell where could she stay for the night?

She forced a pleasant, almost excited expression onto her face as her heart pounded and the door opened to reveal...a cat? Thing. Koshka. He hadn't looked at her yet, which meant she probably had about ten seconds to try and convince him that ok she may not be a local but she could do this! "Yes!" Her voice was soft and pleasurable to hear. "Here because of the ad you-" OH GOD. That face. Her eyes widened as well, but unlike his frozen stance, her head tilted down as she followed the coffee mug to the floor. Wincing slightly she was already thinking of how much of a b***h that was going to be to clean. Glancing back up she winced again at his look...and then nothing but door was in her face.

Ellie just stared. And stared some more. Had...? Yep. It had. Her ears drooped and a sigh escaped. Great. What did she do now? Should she try agai- An ear perked up and turned towards the door. Surprise flashed through her eyes and a small smile spread, canine teeth showing for a brief moment. Did he just call her a six foot dog?! This was probably the one and only time she would ever hear such a proclamation. Ellie was not six foot. She was only about five foot five.

One ear remained perked up as she listened. A frown formed. Was...did he not like kanus'? It didn't sound that way. In fact it sounded more like he had never seen her kind before. That damned kernel of hope flared and, fighting off the slight nervousness that had sprouted.

"I-I'm sorry to startle you, sir." Her voice was shy and she wasn't even sure he would hear her. "I...understand if I'm not quite what you were looking for," she said, ears drooping again. "But I'd like to at least assist in cleaning the coffee stain." It had been mostly her fault for it in the first place. "A-After that, I'll leave you be." All this was said into the door that still remained closed in front of her and her tail hung limply behind her.

Melvin's reaction had been entirely instinctual, though he wasn't sure just why, seeing as how, well... he'd never really seen a Kanus in his life. He had, however seen what stay dogs could do to cats and he didn't really feel like finding out if that applied to them too. Despite his reluctance to open the door, he didn't really move away from it, his tail still puffed out to nearly twice it's usual size and his legs shaking just a bit. He was still trying to decide just how to tackle the situation when her voice drifted to him through the door; despite himself, he pressed an ear back to listen to what she had to say, "I'm not startled!" he shouted back at her, "I'm absolutely terrified!" well, if anything, he was being perfectly honest with her; either he felt no need to act like a 'man' or he simply saw no need in lying to her.

His gaze lowered down to the ground and he grimaced, "Oh god, my poor carpet," his words were followed by a small whine, "My poor coffee..." it almost actually sounded like he was mourning the coffee more than he was the carpet though, if the slight, unmasked whine was any indication. His gaze went from the stain, to the door, and then back to stain several times before he made a small strangled noise. He then leaned back against the door, though this time face first, cracking it open just a tiny little bit so he could peek out and evaluate her, "Are you going to try to bite me?" a pause, "Or chase me? Because I am going to go ahead and admit right here and now that I can't climb up trees, which probably means you'd kill me quite easily," was he being over dramatic? Quite possibly, but at the current moment, Melvin didn't seem to care all that much; ensuring his continued survival seemed much higher a priority than ensuring he didn't embarrass himself.

Of course, no sooner did he crack the door open and talk, that his small, white cat decided it was a perfect opportunity to step outside and explore the wide, new world presented to her. Melvin was unaware of what the cat was doing until she slipped past him and squeezed through the crack of the door, shoving it open before looking up at Ellie. For a long moment, the small, elegant cat looked up at her, and then mewled, weaving herself around the Kanu's feet, obviously demanding to be fed, seeing as how her owner was lucky when he remembered to feed himself, "Dolce!" Melvin stopped just as the cat began to weave through the Kanu's legs and..... slowly opened the door to stare down at his pet. If the smaller cat though this girl was harmless, then well, maybe she was?

Despite the fact he'd opened the door and was standing before her, his tail was swishing behind him and it was still puffed out, his long ears flattened back as he lifted his gaze from his pet and up to the girl's face, "I... take it that letting you in will not, in any way, endanger my wellbeing then?" he still seemed skittish and unsure, but at least he wasn't slamming the door in her face again. Now though, she was probably able to get a much better look at him; he was wearing pajamas, robes and... his hair while brushed and clean, was messy and only just slightly held out of his face with a... violet ribbon which was tied in the form of a bow, "What's your name?" he doubted 'dog' was very polite.

She was actually surprised that he responded to what she said. And even more surprised by what he said. She wasn't scary, was she? The kanus frowned. One arm crossed her stomach to lightly hold the other one while she stood there, staring at the door. What was one supposed to say in response to having been the cause of someone's terror? "I...I am sorry?" At that point, Ellie expected to be told to go the eff away. Her gaze lowered to the paper she still held in one hand.

An ear twitched as she caught his voice again. Something about the carpet. And...was he whining? About the carpet? Or...had he said coffee? She did feel bad that he'd dropped his cup of coffee like that. Especially since it had unintentionally been her fault.

The sound of the door cracking open had her gaze going straight to that and ears perking up a little. She couldn't help the hope that refused to die just yet. He merely peeked out at her from the crack he'd made in the doorway. "No! No sir I wouldn't bite you. Or chase you." She blinked at the admittance of not being able to climb up trees. Wasn't that something that felines were normally really good at? "K-kill you?" A squeak like sound came out and she stared. "I would never!" Alright, from what she had observed, this cat was very paranoid. Or at least she thought it was paranoia.

Gleaming feline eyes and a white fur coat regarded her all of a sudden. The kanus blinked slowly as she stared down at the cat. And then she had a very demanding cat mewling up at her while weaving around her feet. A toothy smile broke out and she crouched down to run her fingers through the cat's pelt. Ellie held her hand still for the cat to smell before returning to petting her. Behind her, Ellie's tail brushed against the ground lightly as it wagged back and forth a little.

She hadn't realized that the door had been opened wide again until the sound of his voice drew her gaze up. The kanus regarded him before slowly standing up again after giving his cat an affectionate pat on the head. "No sir. It will not." She replied. Now that he was standing there a little more calmly (not by much though), she was able to get a good look at him. He was wearing...pajamas and a robe while his hair looked a little tousled. Either she'd caught him just getting up or he was the type to not bother with dressing for the day. Or he just forgot. Overall, he wasn't half bad looking for a koshka. Not that this was on the forefront of her mind. More like an observation made that was filed away into that little file cabinet in the back of her mind. His eyes were pretty though.

"F-forgive me!" Ellie's ears lowered in what seemed like embarrassment for not having provided her name before. "My name is Ellie. Ellie Londington. It's a pleasure to meet you, sir." It probably would come as a surprise to hear that she really did mean what she said. Even if he had freaked out and slammed a door in her face.

In all fairness, it didn't look like it took a great deal of effort to scare Melvin; he seemed to be the sort person that spent most of their day locked away from prying eyes, working on some obscure experiment or other. In fact, were it not for the fact he was wearing robes and pajamas, he could have looked the part of a mad scientist. With bed tousled hair.

All in all, he didn't look like much of a fighter at all. In fact, if anything, the poor koshka looked very much like one could probably shove him aside quite easily; he was every bit of a thinker and his body build showed it,"Alright," despite the fact he drawled that one word out, it didn't really seem like Melvin was particularly sure he could trust her. However, his blue gaze lowered down to his cat once more, and he let out a sigh of defeat, "Follow me," that said, and despite everything that had happened, he walked over to the door and... surprisingly enough, held it open for her like a gentleman, apparently not thinking twice about the gesture, "Careful," his long tail, which had slowly become unpoofed (and was a rather lovely, obviously unnatural shade of violet), curled around his legs to motion to the large coffee stain and the mug pieces on the floor, "Don't hurt yourself," he nodded as she introduced herself, and then took the time to offer her a formal semi bow, which probably looked ridiculous given the fact he was still in bedwear, "Melvin Issac Tweed," he told her as he straighted up, "Melvin is just fine," this was said almost as an awkward afterthought as he let her in.

Once she'd stepped into the house, the koshka leaned over, grabbed his cat and then closed the door, leading his guest, "The house is a bit of a mess. That is mostly due to the fact both my house maid and my lab assistants had to leave and..." he seemed to hesitate here, looking over his shoulder at her as he guided her down the hallway, "Well, I'm just one person. The house is big and... I'm usually too distracted by work to do much of anything with it," when they arrived to the stairs, he pointed up, "Bedrooms are up there. There's a guestroom, which you will take, and my own. Down the hallway is the kitchen. Restrooms are upstairs and this," he opened a door to the side, "Leads to the basement, where the lab is. You're free to explore later," a pause, "I need coffee," this was whispered, his ears flopping back and down as he made his way to the kitchen, letting the cat in his arms drop to the ground. Once there, he bussied himself by preparing himself some coffee, "You may touch anything you wish, except the experiments in the lab. And me," he slid his gaze over to her,as if to say that 'yeah, no, please don't touch me'. Amusingly enough, it made him look awkward and skittish rather than disgusted.
.
"You may make yourself at home," why yes, he seemed to be hiring her on the spot, without much thought. But then again, no one else had come, and... he really needed the help. Besides, wouldn't having a dog in the house be more secure? Which was obviously was prompted his next words, "Are you... like a guard dog?" this was said softly as he peeked at her before returning his attention to the coffee, pouring himself a new glass.

Ellie worked hard to hide any of that burning hope from her gaze as she waited to hear his verdict. Her tail had curled slightly between her legs again. So far her plan for making a great first impression hadn't gone well at all. The kanus was doing her best to go with the flow of things now, still hoping her impression on this koshka wasn't tarnished by the fact she was a...umm...canine. Big dog, in his eyes apparently.

That single drawled out word quite literally made her heart skip a beat. Had...had he really just said alright? Was he giving her a chance? It was hard for her to be sure, going off of his gaze and posture. He clearly didn't trust her and almost seemed to be second guessing himself even as he spoke. At the words 'Follow me,', Ellie felt her ears perk up and tail curl up. A huge grin spread along her face when he turned his back to moved towards the door. Quickly, the kanus hefted her traveling pack higher on her shoulder and took a few hesitant steps after him. He wasn't going to have second thoughts and slam the door on her again, was he?!

The koshka surprised her again by actually holding the door open for her. So he WAS a gentleman! Not that this should surprise her. She had freaked him out by what she was. This made her curious about him. Why had he freaked out when no one else she had come across had? A slight frown creased her brows as she thought on that. He wasn't going to...do anything to her, was he? Ellie seriously doubted this one. He just...there was something about him that screamed 'push over'. Like the pup you could take lunch money from.

Her gaze was momentarily drawn to his...violet tail? A very pretty shade of violet. It curled around his legs as he indicated the shattered coffee mug and its contents on the floor. "I'll be careful." She said in a small voice, already thinking on the best ways to get coffee stains out of the carpet. Ellie stopped moving when he gave her a semi bow. Yes, it looked comical with him only in his pajamas and robe, but Ellie was more touched by the gesture itself. Even uncertain about her, he was still acting like a gentleman. This earned him points in her book. "Pleasure, Melvin." She murmured and gathered up her courage to step (carefully) through the door.

The first thing the kanus did when she entered the house was pull her pack closer to her. She didn't want it to ram into something after barely stepping foot in here! Her ears had flattened a little out of nervousness as she silently followed along. Big eyes looked all around as she nodded her head in acknowledgment to his words. This house was big. Rather lonely for a single person, she thought. He pointed up the stairs and she followed with her eyes. Wait, she was getting her own room? That was even more than she expected. Next he indicated the hallway where the kitchen was. She definitely made a note of that one. Ellie stepped slightly closer to peer down the door he opened, sniffing at the air. It smelled like chemicals. And a little musty. "Yes sir." She said in that soft voice again. Ellie wasn't comfortable calling him by his name just yet. Not when she was being hired as his housekeeper!

Hesitantly, she padded after him as he went in the direction of the kitchen. Upon entering it, her ears started to perk up. It smelled wonderful in here at least. "No touching of the experiments. Got it." Her eyes widened and stared at him. Why would she touch him? Wait, why would he add that in there? She was only able to blink in response to that one. Alright. No touching. She could do that. Right? "Yes sir." The kanus managed to get out, still baffled by that last one.

She was even more baffled by the fact he seemed to just...hire her for the job right then and there. Part of her wanted to question this. But a bigger part of her didn't even want to question her luck! So she could make herself at home then? Did this imply to the kitchen as well? Was she supposed to be the cook? This actually didn't bother her. More like excited her. Ellie loved to cook.

"A g-guard dog?" For the first time since being in his presence, the kanus laughed warmly. Not in any way making fun of his question. "If you need a guard dog, I certainly can play that role." Mostly. As long as they weren't gimassively bigger than she was. "Am I..." She chewed at her lower lip. "Do I have free reign of the kitchen?" This was asked rather shyly on her part. "I'm a good cook! And I love cooking things."
