So, this fantasy world of mine has been very close to me for not only being the world of my most sucessful RP, but also for the fact it's survived for five years. I never gave it an actual time period(or an equivalent for one) for when the RPs all take place, but a so far 80 years has passed since the first installment of the RP series.

So, pretty much here was the stages I noticed the RP heading. I'll use the abbreviated versions of the title, but to stop the questions about what the letter stands for, it stands for "Rendezvous."

R1: So, this was your typical medeival fantasy world. Nothing really special.

R2: 60 years after R1, and the setting has not changed much, beyond the fact a meteorite that landed near the area of a huge fight of the previous RP causing concern with its alien parasites. This is where the RP begins getting an actual plot. XD

R3: 3 years after R2. The world is starting to enter its industrial period, having more of a steampunkish feel in some countries, such as The City--a country-sized city that's full of factories and human rights violations. Simple firearms have started poping up, but their practicality is not too good yet.

R4+5: 16-17 years after the end of R3. It was around this time a friend od mine added two countries who impacted the plot of the RP to a huge extreme. While most of the world is still medieval-fantasy, Vostroya and Krieg (named the Vostroyan First-Borns and Krieg Death-Korps of Warhammer 40k) have emerged with technology far more advanced than the rest of the world (except for maybe The City)--equivalent to World War I weaponry. Both countries began their conquest, ending up finding themselves unable to take the last country standing, which is a huge desert.

R6+Up: So, right now I'm wanting to close the century with a catastrophe so great that not even the best technology or magic can lessen the destruction. Remember that meteorite from earlier? Well, because of how slowly news traveled 80 years before now, nobody knew that meteorites had landed all over the world next to the major cities.

This is where my one friend and I are RPing currently. An isolationist country by the name of Mursaata had dealt with a monster known as a Gigan Beast, which are supposed to reshape the land. Po, being the last surviving member of the squad sent to destroy the meteorite in R2 was summoned to investigate and then deliver a warning to the most powerful countries he knew: Vostroya and Krieg. However, when he arrives Vostroya finds itself under attack by the second Gigan Beast, which levels its capital city entirely.

Basically, the secrets to every country's sucess was that a long time ago, they were founded over where these powerful beasts slept. Vostroya and Krieg have some powerful beasts, but they are totally offensive. Our characters are pretty much on a suicide mission to stop these things from ravaging the world, but end up facing much more problems. What I am planning is that by the end of this whole story arc, every country will be devastated and broken. Not to the extent of a post-apocolyptic society, but enough that the world will not be the same ever again.

An example of what I mean would be that an entire archipelago of island are actually just the protruding spines of a gigan beast that can summon up storms. This country will be lost.

So, where to go next? If I had to set an approximate era for where this RP would be technologically, it'd be 1840-1914. My friend said that he's planning on Vostroya having a revolution (as it is based off Russia) and becoming a new country. I mean, there would still be less than 20 years left of the century, after this whole scenario. By this point, magic is starting to become obsolete compared to industrial weapons and to avoid the scenario of magical guns and such, The City is my example of why magic and technology is not accepted by the rest of the world; it isn't ethical to the workers.

And I'm worrie dthis might be confusing. I'll try to answer questions if there are any.

I think a better question should be: When the world gets back onto its feet, where should its technology start off at? Most likely it stagnated during a time of rebuilding, or regressed.

Okay, I misunderstood what you were asking at first, but I think I understand now. And you could probably just follow the progression of things as they're going. That's been working fine for you anyway. Next for them would likely be the, forming of the League of Nations (1919), ((I'm assuming your women may already have some rights [speaking of amendment to vote], but some other people could fight for theirs if that's so [1920])), the depression (1930) and Hitler (1934); so tech of those times would work. My dates aught to be about right, too, because I'm cheating and looking at an American history timeline. You could also have one or two of your technologically retarded countries, steal a tech weapon from one of the advanced and then advance it so much that their country now proves a threat (Russia's discovering the atomic bomb after... the Cold War, I think). Or something very devastating could happen with your friend's revolution that almost throws the world into a panic about technology and it's dangers (like the hippies denouncing the Vietnam war, except their against weapons/tech). That could regress some countries and bring others into revolution/chaos (in a wish to return to magicks, perhaps).

I am thinking that magic will eventually be on the verge of dying out or just will become less dominant amongst people with the addition of magical races dying out. The ony reason I think my character's great grandchildren would be able to use some form of magic (not as strong as his own or his son's/their grandfather) is because my character's wife was a half elf with no human genes (elf and a race believed to be related to fallen angels).

Now, I don't want to copy history exactly, because that'd be just boring. I'm thinking more along the lines of a technological point. the best technology is like 1914-1918, right now. And I think maybe weapons created with science being able to match the destruction of a magical weapon may be included. After all, a cannon from one of the RPs was used to separate this one country from the mainland by blowing everything up. The only cost was human life.
