Races of Alconia
PostPosted: Sat Mar 05, 2011 11:36 am

Races of Abyssus Desert

The Fenni

"Nothing is wasted."

Living out in the desert are several tribes of little furry humanoids. They live in small tribes around and in the vast desert; inhabiting oasis and making up camp where they can find wells of water.

They usually have golden to sand colored fur; their ears are foxlike; but HUGE. They have large furry tails which they can wrap around themselves completely if the night gets too cold.

They are essentially a race of hunters. A Race of survival. Yet, they place importance in community; their little tribes, their little clans, are important to them.

Their cultural crafts are leather and hide armor, as well as slingshots, slings, and bone knives. Flint Knives are also very useful, while rare, and valuable to them.

They are omnivores; they eat whatever they can find in the desert. This can include, and does, the large scorpions that roam the desert, as well as various cacti and desert plant.

They highly dislike killing creatures of high intelligence. They are unfortunately forced to do this often when the The Ghilohs attack.

When they kill another sentient being, they make sure they get good use out of the body. The meat, hide/skin, and bones are harvested to make armor or cloth, food, and weapons.

The Ghilohs

"If you cannot defend what you have, you do not deserve to have it. This includes your life."

In the depths of the harsh Desert of Alconia live the Ghilohs.

They resemble huge humanoid Horned Lizards. Covered in trails of spikes down their backs to their tails, their hide is tough and hard to pierce.

An intresting skill of theirs is the skill to shoot blood from their eyes. Their blood happens to be highly acidic as well.

Ontop of that, a great deal of their culture is based upon pain. Highly honorable, they only eat living food-- their main delicacy is the large ants (the size of small dogs) that roam the desert.

Their main crafts are wickedly sharp bone weapons. The bones these are made of can be made of anything WITH bone that they come across in the desert... including eachother's bones.

Those of the Underground

The Dwarfs

Living deep, deep in the caverns below the surface of Alconia, live the Dwarfs.

There are 10 dwarf clans. Each dominate over a different caste, such as warriors, tailors, miners, potionmakers. That kind of thing.

They are completely immune to magic. Magic will not work for them, and nor will magical items. Water is posionus to them.

They are short, squat little people with completely black eyes. Males have large, flowing beards and are completely bald; women have full heads of hair and sideburns. Their hair itself is made not of actual hair, but of fine wire. They grow to be about 3-4 feet tall. They speak something that pretty much English a with thick Scottish accents.

They are geniuses when it comes to building architecture and working-- the instant they're not, however, they drink, they screw, brawl, play billiards (with each other as the balls, maybe) that kind of thing.

Their cultural craft is stone. They care not for most metals, and gems are too fragile for them. Few things they mare are made of metal. The stone itself is enhanced by runes, which they apply to the craft to make it stronger and give it various properties.

They live in a craftmaker's rivalry with the Minotaurs.

The Mol'mun

Living below the surface, not quite as deep as the dwarfs, are the Mole people.

They at the littlest of the little races. Growing to be no more then 1 and a half feet tall, they look like, essentially, humanoid moles. They are covered in thick fur that comes in varied colors of brown.

They work in small groups of 3 and 4, no matter what job they are doing. Wether it be digging their tunnels, infront of the kiln making their tools, or interacting with others, it is rare to see them alone or more then 4.

The mole people's cultural crafts are ceramics. They may be tiny and cute but they are practical, and found that fired clay makes for good digging tools.

They are generally peaceful creatures, but if forced into a fight they will rely on their ceramic claw tools to defend themselves.

Above ground you will find them wearing very large, very dark goggles so they don't blind themselves in the bright sunlight.

They eat worms and other crawlies that live in the soil.

The Denizens of the Plains

The Minotaurs

"Oh look! I made a clockwork butterfly! Aww, it doesn't work. Maybe if I do this differently... IT WORKS!"

Living out of the grassy plains are an unusual race known as the Minotaurs. Possibly on of the most advanced of the races living on the little planet, they are inventive and curious beings. They have a talent for working with metal that surpasses all others, and love to toy with what humans would describe as "Clock-punk" and "Steam-punk" technologies.

They have gotten insofar with these technologies that they are working on making Steampowered Airships, among other types of useful machinery.

When they're not toying an experimenting with clock and steampunk stuff, they craft the best metal armor and weapons in Alconia. Infact, the metal crafts they make are the only metal craft that can stand up to magical enchantment.

They are very long lived, and slow to breed; they can live up to 250,000 years. They are resistant to magic and magical influences; they also have no talent for it. They are also the tallest of the races, growing to an average of 18 feet tall.

They love music, but as with magic they have no talent for music. They also love alcohol; one of their few non metallic traditional crafts is making very strong, very potent wines, meads, and ales. So as well as smiths you will find Minotaur bee-keepers, farmers, and brewers.

They have a craftmaker's rivalry with the Dwarfs.

Chinchillitas

"Your boots are nowhere NEAR as shiny as mine!"
"Oh yeah? Mine will last MUCH longer then yours! And look at the stitching! Aweful!"

Living in the plains, among the tall grasses, are the Chinchillitas. They are possibly the cutest, softest, most adorable little humanoids you will ever find. They are well dressed and impeccable about their clothing and cleanliness.

About as tall as a dwarf, these little guys resemble humanoid chinchillas.

But they're MEANER then any dwarf.

If you pet one, they will probably bite you and go roll around in the dirt to restore their fur to pristine perfection. They're vain, neat freaks, and greedy.

They also have some talent for magic; not too great a talent, mind you. They, however, boost their natural affinity to magic through the clothes they wear. Ever picky and neat, they only use the finest silks and cotton and cashmere (ect) for their clothes, which they use to boost the power of their spells. If you want one of their fine arcane boosting silk shirts, prepare to pay through the nose for it.

Though cute, they are incredibly unpleasant to be around; they also look very much alike to eachother. Thus they define themselves with with their clothes. They also speak almost entirely in insults.

Most others call them "Chinnys"

The People of the Spine Mountains

The Lycanthrops

"Curse? What Curse? It is a blessing from the divine!"

Living among the forests in small villages are those known as the Lycans. If you want to insult them, you can call them werewolves... it's not advisable tho.

These are creatures that do what they want, when they want, because they want to. Either that, or they try really hard NOT to.

In human form they are beautiful human beings; supremely handsome or beautiful in a sort of wild and feral way.

In wolf form they are large, muscled beats with natural speed, agility, and much physical might. Thing is... technology in any form will not work for them. Armor is too restricting. So they're mainly nudists for the most part, only having to rely on their claws, teeth, and hide for protection and self defense. Though.... being resistant to most metals and weapons helps out some in the whole 'guarding their own hide' part...

The Satyrs

"Hey... wanna see a trick? ;3"

Living on the rocky cliffs of the mountains are the Satyrs. Little goat people that grow to be on average 5 feet in height, they have the lower legs and tail of a goat, the torso, arms, and head of a human, as well as a pair of goat horns.

They are artists, frankly. The most common art they practice is music on their little Pan flutes, but they are not limited to music. Poetry, dance, painting, drawing; their muses are not limited to one form of the arts.

Since they grew up on the slopes of the mountains, they have impeccable climbing abilities. It is easy for them.

Other then the arts, they do like to enjoy themselves. They are Horn(y) little guys and love to party, drink, and have a good time.

The People of the Jungles

The Elves

Living among the jungles south of the plains are the elves. They have appearance of slender and elegant humanoids, with sharp angular features and long pointed ears that are almost 6 inches long. They are very expressive creatures, as their ears can perk up, move back, or droop with their moods. They are very light and are excellent tree climbers, and they can jump like nobody's business.

They build their homes in the canopy of the Vapore jungle-- to avoid the yearly flooding that turns the forest floor into a huge swimming pool. These treehouses seem to resemble huge nests in an odd way, however.

They have high talent for magic, but alone they would never pursue it themselves. They are intelligent, but wild, more likely to follow survival instincts then logical thought.

Their clothes, if you can call the stuff clothes, are made feathers, taken from the large wild birds that fly through the jungle. The bright colorful plumage of many male birds are prized like gold among the elves. They tend to use spears as weapons; they have no clue how to make bows but they are highly prized weapons among the elves as they are well suited for hunting among the treetops.

The Ursurka

Living in cities in the jungle are the Ursurka. They are tribal, worshiping their gods in big stone temples overlooking their big stone cities.

They are monkey people. Growing to be about human size, they are covered in fur that varies in different shades of brown most of the time and have strong prehensile tails. They are able to hold things with their feet.

They wear what appears to be armor made of precious metals, like gold, but fashioned to look like bone. It's then decorated by plants and plumes. Surprisingly, this makes for good camoflouge.

The Ursurka live in different tribes around the jungle. Each Tribe worships a different god then the other. They also war with each other for dominance over the jungle.

But these gods are dark gods. Blood gods.

In each tribe they sacrifice blood periodically to their gods.

Etznopa Urosku - Monkey god (Main god worshiped all over)

Etznopa Tezca - Snake god (God of venom and stealth)

Etznopa Yohu - Bat god (God of night and messenger of dreams)

Etzcazintli Tocat - The Spider Goddess (members of this tribe are ALL FEMALE. No exceptions)

Etznopa Michi - Fish god (God of water)

Etznopa Huitz - Bird God (God of air and flight)

Etznopa Mitzo - Leopard god (god of hunting)

Etznopa Xoch - Plant god (god of harvest)

The Gekkinada

Living in and among the elves are the Gekkinada. Tiny little humanoid geckos, they have big slitted eyes and long tongues. They grow to an average of 1 and a half feet tall.

Their culture is much like the elves, only more refined. They are one of the few races in Alconia to develop a complex writing system.

They are also the creatures with THE highest potential for magic.

In fact they do have it. They are the first to discover it; the first to refine it. The first to cast spells. They are scribes, messengers, defenders, and most of all, mages.

They are also the only race to ever get an Ursurka to run with just a glare.

In the Murky Swamps Live...

The Tortogis

"Git off mah land!"

On a completely different continent from the others is a massive swampland. It is hard to live in such a place; Those that manage to do so are the Tortogis.

They are little humanoid turtles. They have thick, hard shells that are hard to cut through-- and they can fully withdraw into them for defense.

They often build houses that are on stilts above the muck of the marsh, and are rather well built.

They are very territorial about their 'land', however. They are the first race to develop gunpowder from the resources of the swamp, and have a tenancy to, if someone or something was to wander onto their territory, fill the intruder full of buckshot and rock-salt with their boom sticks.
PostPosted: Wed Mar 16, 2011 2:05 am

The Slimes

Lurking in the swamps are a very colorful race of... slimes. Gooey creatures that ooze from one place to another, they ooze and creep where they need to go. They come in all different colors, from inky black to bright electric blue. They don't seem to have mouths or any type of defining feature save for a pair of plain glowing orbs which can themselves be of any color.

They can morph themselves for a time into any shape they wish. After a while this tires out the slime and they will have to revert back to being a puddle of ooze.

They are naturally peaceful creatures. They are not very aggressive; when they are confronted by violence they usually attempt to seek safety.

The part of the swampland in which they reside is teeming with life. Truly ancient trees stand, as well as strong, healthy plants that are so strong it's hard to cut a blade of grass with mundane tools.

No one has ever heard two Slimes talking to each other verbally. But to the other races they sound like someone is using a kazoo to talk. They speak slowly, and have a tendency to state the obvious.

The Woodlands

The Vespaleen

Living in a huge, wisespread woodland is the Vespaleen.

Physically, they are very similar to humans-- humanoid frame, physique, ect.

Females tend to be lithe and lean, while males are more muscular, more solidly built, and studrier.

They have black and gold striped hair, and golden almond skin with natural stripes and patterns winding the way across their bodies. No two Vespaleen's 'stripes' are the same.

They have a pair of small antennae sicking out of their foreheads, which they use to communicate to each other via pheromones. Due to this, they can communicate to each other very very quickly.

They have large, almond shaped eyes that are completely black. If one looks carefully they will see a sort of honeycomb pattern that makes their eyes shimmer lightly in the light.

The females have a very special trait. If they flatten out their palms, out shoots a retractable stinger. The females are climbers and runners and jumpers.

The males do not have these stingers. They are builders, workers, child rearers and botanical alchemists.

Did I mention the botanical alchemy? They are experts in crafting things from plants. Their most famed is their honeys-- they brew up their honeys in pots and often have different properties depending on the brew. They can even make a honey brew that's alcoholic-- just as strong as any Minos beer or Tortogis whiskey! They can also make potent herbal medicines and posions...

Oh yeah, the poison part. The females are killers for hire. They pride themselves on being capable on taking out most foes-- though a few they need to enhance their natural weapons.
