I've played pretty much every pokemon game and I've never seen a shiny in my life. (is an extremely lucky girl woot)
But honestly, I don't care. They don't get any bonus stats or anything, only change color. Yeah, some do look better as shiny but they also look awesome normal.

The pokémon usually has to be something outrageous for it to be almost impossible to catch at full health if for some reason it can't be damaged. =>n<=
For instance, when I do the Bug-Catching Contest, I can usually catch a Scyther, Pinsir, Butterfree, etc. at full health without going through 20 sport balls, and their catch rate is only 5.9% at full health with no status condition and using only a normal poké ball. Most pokémon are easier to catch than that.
So even I was incapable of damaging a pokémon without KO'ing, I would still try to catch it. I usually try to keep Quick Balls if I ever have that kind of situation. (I caught my shiny Psyduck in a Quick Ball.)

Found a shiny Emolga today while Audino farming on route 10 on my college break, shouted OHSHI at my friend when I saw it was a shiny.
Caught it in an ultra ball while it was at half health~

The wild pokémon encounter rate must be close to 100% in B/W. stressed I can barely walk four steps in tall grass or in a cave without running into some pokémon. I don't blame people for using Max Repels.

But the Tall Dark Grass seems to be a Higher Rate then the two.

I'm being really slow and haven't gotten Surf yet. xD I seem to run into less pokémon in the tall dark grass than in the normal grass. eek So weird. emo
