Most people don't know this..... but hell IS temporary.... but not the Lake of Fire...... in the Bible, "Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." it says that after the coming of Christ when the earth is destroyed and after the 1000 years on Earth the people in hell will be judged and cast into the Lake of Fire....... hell is like a waiting lobby for unsaved people after they die.... just really painful.... Just a little fact that I would like to share..... Not that it really matters for Christians...... I've made reservations for someplace else

In a way what you said is true. I did a Bible study commentary on the issue and I learned quite a bit from it. I'll post a quick synopsis.

Sheol [first referenced in Gen 37:35] is the abode of the dead, where all people go after they die. Sheol is also translated into its Greek equivalent, Hades, which means the same thing. Sheol/Hades has two subset groups: The Place of Torment and Abraham's Bosom. Both places are mentioned in Luke concerning the story of Lazarus, the poor man, and the rich man. Between these two places is an "Impassible Gulf". It is in these two places that the dead await resurrection and judgement.

The level "below" the two subset groups [some scholars believe that this place is completely separate from Sheol] is known as Gehenna, as referanced by Christ, or otherwise known as The Lake of Fire. This place was originally intended to confine Lucifer and his fallen angels, but later, it is the destiny of all the impenitent. We could call this "Hell proper".

Another place [also thought separate from Sheol/Hades, or at least a deeper realm] is called the Abyss or The Bottomless Pit. Little is known about it; only that certain creatures are consigned to it, and that the Antichrist ascends from this place.

There is also one other place to mention which is called Tartarus, used only once by Peter in the New Testament. It is an exclusively Greek term that can also be found in Homer's Illiad and other Greek literature. Most scholars equate this place to being the same as the Abyss. The Greeks regarded this place as "Tartarus is as far below Hades, as Earth is below Heaven". Scholars that believe this place to be different from the Abyss or the Lake of Fire, concur that this is the farthest, darkest, and bottomless place that's reserved for special (albiet unknown) purposes by God.

I have more but that's all I'll post for the sake of the topic.
