Platoon Sergeant Michael Lynch Lynch walked into the barracks two days after the large brawl on Queens Street. The Marines were sleeping. He turned on the lines, "Alright Marines, drop your c*cks and grab your socks! Let's go. Get your sh*t together. Get sh*t showered and shaved, we've got a boat to catch." He had a pack in his right hand as he walked up and down the squad bay.

CPL Fredrick David David rolled out of bed and got dressed quickly. Lacing the gaiters was the longest part, but then he walked down the racks of the members of his fire team, "Let's go, Marines!" he added his voice to the chorus of NCO's that were shouting, "Bail out!" The Marines were up and getting dressed. David walked back down to his rack and sinched down everything on his pack and picked up his helmet.

Platoon Sergeant Michael Lynch Lynch walked over to McNaulty as he finished grabbing his gear, "Hate to do this to you, but you've been selected as radio-man for the platoon." Lynch had never seen combat but he knew well enough that giving a man a radio was issuing him a death sentence. The antena would act as a large target for enemy snipers and just about every other enemy soldier on the ground.

Ian McNaulty "Thank-you sir." was all he said as he took the radio and shouldered it holding his pack and his rifle in hand. But, he was thinking that he might be joining his brother soon rather than later. McNaulty shuffled out the door with the rest of the men and started to form up.

Addison stopped with David and McNaulty and followed the two of them by setting down his pack as well. Addison began to speak. "You guys know that I'm new, fill me in on anything or tell me if I'm doing anything stupid as soon as you see me do it? I think that will keep me alive if you will help me." Addison said realizing now he needed to worry because his first expierence was about to start and he was a bit nervous.

Ian McNaulty "yeah, you will be able to keep an eye on me and so will the Japs, I am so f*****" he said begrudgingly to David. Then he turned to Addison "friend the first thing you need to do is relax and you will be fine, no sense worrying before you need to right?" he said reassuringly as he placed a hand on his shoulder.

CPL Fredrick David "Just stick with us." David said, "Keep your head down and keep moving." David sat down on his gear while they were waiting. It was the standard operating procedure for the military; hurry up and wait. David took out a cigarette and lit it. He exhaled a cloud of smoke and looked back up at the two PFC's, "Just relax. We have to get on the ships before we can worry about what we're going to do when we get there."
