It seems the more I research the more I get varying answers on what vegetarians should do to supplement proteins, iron, etc. during pregnancy and it'll be a few more weeks before the doctor will even see me. (They're making me wait until I've gone past at least 8 weeks.)

I was wondering if someone here had experience on the matter and could offer advice. : )

I Googled it and found women talking about eating yogurt, cheese, almond milk, beans, cereal bars, protein cereal, nuts, peanut butter, soy products, nut butters, edamame, and tofu.
As for iron, I found
Quote:
Raisins • Prunes • Dried apricots • Figs • Kidney beans • Pinto beans • Navy beans • Lentils • Split green peas • Enriched cereals • Enriched macaroni • Spinach • Greens • Broccoli • Lima beans • Avocado

My wife said that you might have to take supplement for both but she highly recommends you talk to your doctor first.

Hope that helps some.

Natural foods that naturally have it are good choices, I know that much for sure. Really it may not be so much of a difference in what you should eat now as it is what you should avoid. I don't know about that list much, except that you should avoid lemons and other foods with citric acid. They can make the baby colic. My mom loved lemonade while she was carrying me, but after I was born I had stomach problems caused by that acid.

So when you do talk to your doctor ask both about what you should eat and what you shouldn't. Until then just trust the natural stuff. A friend of mine went vegetarian recently and says nuts have allot of protein in them so having those around even just for snacking on throughout the day could be a good idea. And it's healthier than popcorn.

EDIT: I just realized how old this post is. I didn't see it until now though and thought a post had been made recently. Sorry for getting to this late.
