I'm not sure if I posted this topic before, so sorry guys. I need advice and stuff D:

I've been contemplating to get my hair done in dreadlocks, especially after researching on its origins online.. ( Example, here )

What's stopping me are:

WHere can I go to get my hair done like that?
How to maintain it?
How do most Singaporeans view it?

I have feeling most will be like, 'WTF is wrong with you?'

THat's one trait that seriously pisses me off.

Advice anyone? I'm just 17 and about to start studying in Poly, and I'm wondering if it's advisable to do that at this time sad

Help!

Meh. Singaporeans do that at anything new and out of the ordinary. They're a bunch of haters imo. XD

Dreads are awesome! I would go get them if I were you. Poly time is the best to get outrageous hairstyles, since you don't get penalized for it like you might when you start working.

The thing I don't really like about dreads is that I've heard you have to wash your hair alot less (or so I've heard??), and it gets messier and messier very easily. Probably not something I would get since it's hot here everyday and stuff.

But really, just go try it out. Worst comes to worst if you really don't like it, just get a mohawk or shave it away and it'd be another awesome hairstyle.

lol, now that you mentioned it, it looks like it xD Sad!

Yeah, that's true. I'm not very sure about the washing part, I'm still reading up on it from people who experienced it before. Yeah, the humidity in Singapore complicates things, and I've seen the prices of having our hair in dreads ranging from... I don't know, $250 and more? I probably have to go visit Far East Plaza and find this salon that offers to do awesome hairstyles.

Holy crap, I was thinking the same thing if I were to get rid of the dreads xD

I'm also worried if they'd fit my face or not D:

Wow, didn't know it would be so expensive. Ooh I've heard they do pretty good hair braiding as well, that could be an alternative.

I suppose so... I don't know how else one could salvage the hair after having it in dreadlocks. o.o;;

Got any pictures?

lol, I know xD I surfed the net and youtube for some 'How-to's" in making dreadlocks, even unlocking them (instead of shaving your head xD)

I'm still trying to find videos on making dreads without wax D:

My natural reaction would be "WHERE IN THE WORLD ARE YOU FROM?!" since dreadlocks are pretty much an African stereotype. I suppose I'm being racist here.

It's not just stuck to African tradition (although I heard it possibly originated from there), dreads were also worn in biblical times, India, Rastafarian culture...

lol, I don't think there's anything wrong with that kind of reaction. At least you aren't making fun of a dreadhead :l

From what i've heard, you can't wash your hair. Also I just saw someone is dreadlocks. But, for me, Dreadlocks looks awesome. You should try it.

I have a friend that did Dread. It was awesome, and wasn't really at all out of place.

I could have gotten one too if not for the -erm- washing part.

i dun think you have to worry about looking good in dreads, it just looks cool. But i think it will get very annoying after awhile cause cant wash it.. and it stinks.. >.> Some of my friends suggested can use dry shampoo. its a long term commitment if you want to get dreads. Many just give up as it takes a long time.
