Hi all, I'm quite new-ish to visual novels and I haven't really experienced a wide range, so I was hoping that you guys could give me a few recommendations?
Genres I like are: Mystery, Fantasy, Horror, Slice of Life
Of course they don't ALL have to be the ones mentioned, I don't even know if a Mystery Fantasy Horror Slice of Life VN exists!
Thanks!

Granted not all of these games are free, so if you're specifically looking for free ones, this game may not be for you (though you may try the demo). Sakevisual has a game out called Jisei. It's only one chapter of a larger story, but it is a really cool mystery game about a boy who can touch a corpse, and see the last few minutes of the person's life. http://www.sakevisual.com/jisei/index.html

I'll check it out now...

> Mystery, Fantasy, Horror There are only 3 I can think of that meet the criteria other than When They Cry, and those are Saya no Uta, Chaos; Head and Steins; Gate. All 3 are developed by Nitro+ and can be purchased through their site (Japanese) Some information about each (possible NSFW warning) Saya No UtaChaos; HeadSteins; Gate (Not translated yet) Also I feel like it's worth mentioning that as of this season, both Chaos; Head and Steins; Gate have an anime adaptation.

Nice tastes. 8D <3
999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (DS): Mystery, Horror (sorta), Suspense
Ever 17: Out of Infinity (PC): Mystery, Sci-Fi (technology), Drama
Remember 11: Age of Infinity (PC): Mystery, Drama
Hourglass of Summer (PC): Mystery, Sci-Fi (time travel), Slice of Life, Dating Sim
The mystery ones are more about mysterious goings-ons than an actual "whodunnit" mystery, but as long as you're left wondering "what's going on" for most of the game, I say they qualify. :V
You can get Ever 17 and Remember 11 (and its English patch) online (Ever 17 is available in English, but expect to pay a hundred at least). 999 is a newish DS game, and Hourglass of Summer is a Hirameki DVD game (runs in anything that can play a DVD) that you can still find pretty easily online.

I recently heard about the 999 thing on the forums, it sounds pretty cool, but it's not released in Europe :c I'll check out the others though, thank you both for the suggestions!! mrgreen
