I haven't vented about this yet, but I'm feeling some kind of way so I'm gonna get it off my chest.

Last July I was coming home from my kickboxing gym walking down the same street I always walked down, minding my own buisness and being a little care free.

I look behind me and I notice four little dudes following me(By little I mean 14-16), now they where all like 5'4, 5'5, 120 lbs, skinny, so I'm thinking...I'm about to knock all there asses the F@#$K out. I let them get up on me with it in my head that they where gonna try to jump me or something.

They where asking me If I knew where to get some weed at or something so I called em out on on their bullshit. It was like 12:00 at night no way in hell they where walkin up on me four deep lookin for some weed.

So I cross across the street the cross over infront of me a decent ways ahead so I'm thinking maybe they know they'll get they a** whooped. Dude is just like "F@#$ this s**t" pulls out a 32 cal, one of the other one's pulls out a 22 and he tells me to give him my phone and then empty my pockets out. I kinda got the feeling I was gonna be shot no matter what tho ( They weren't wearing masks or anything and I saw all their faces) but I tossed him my phone like he told me to.

I saw a car coming across the street, mind was racing and I was thinking "Maybe if I run infront of the car, they'll start shooting and hit the car." So I take off dude with the 32 fires off twice, one hits me in the back and the other graces my arm. I turn around when I get across the street, of course I had to see them laughing at me and calling me a b***h and all that before they ran off.

When I got home and collapsed in pain on the floor I couldn't help but think why the ******** did I try to fight four dudes at night by myself. Sometimes it really isn't worth it no matter what you're training in or how tough you are, a lot of time's it's best to leave it alone.

Three things to say:
1) Why didn't you go straight to the hospital?
2) Where the hell do you live where children can get guns like that?
3) A true martial artist don't look for fights ...

well the moral of the story is there "sometimes its better to just run away" true or not i just looked more into the story itself and in the future when faced with a life or death situation of that caliber it would be best to do like baka boy said and seek medical attention and file a police report. you may have gotten away safe but there is no telling who they may strike next and they may not be so lucky.

in the security field or just as any other officer field you are faced with situations like this maybe not as extreme the best matter though is to deescalate the matter. i get many people up in my face saying they are going to lay me out. or wait for me till i get off work. often if im ever called out like that i inform the police right away and i will walk with my co workers not because im scared and i have faith in my self defense but its a smarter choice and not only am i keeping myself from harm but i also keep others from harm

The thing that is bothering me about this story is the route you took ... you ran ... which in that situation was the right thing to do ... but choosing to run towards a moving vehicle hoping the vehicle was hit instead of you ... you put someone else in harm's way ... a complete stranger who had nothing to do with the initial situation ... that is in no way the though process of a martial artist ... that is more of a meathead mentality ... I cannot commend that action ...

Agreed ... how does one even live with that decision ... you could have got someone else killed ...

Evidence that even a trained martial artist can succumb to the fight-or-flight reflex. Everything changes when guns get involved and sometimes the rushed planning involved isn't too clear.

As to how kids that age got their hands on guns, nearly 20% of all violent crime arrests are for kids under the age of 18 and of those almost 60% involve firearms. In most places, if the "bad guys" want to get guns, they'll find a way. Running was the correct response. Escape the situation, find help and medical attention.

I have to say,the second I knew that four people were following me, I would have looked for a way out and as someone else mentioned, martial artists don't look for fights...Also, you never know what someone might do to you in a confrontation so if possible it is better to avoid the situation altogether...Your gut feeling is normally right, so when you know something is wrong, don't stick around to find out what's going on...

To be honest, I don't know really what I would have done in this situation if it had happened to me...There are so many variables that would change how to react to something like that that it is difficult to foresee an outcome without actually being in the situation myself...

Why didn't you play along with the weed thing? I know some kids like that and they may have actually been looking for a blunt and always looking for a fight. It doesn't take much, that attitude is enough to get you shot in the hood. I have had plenty of kids like that come and ask for a smoke and random crap. You are talking about young guns who live to fight and ********..... next time just talk to them or go out swinging, being rude and giving nasty looks just pisses them off enough to attack.
You may even be right, maybe they were scared that a bigger scary looking dude could ******** them up, so guns were an easy way to beat you without them having to back down and feel like they lost something all those kids have is their pride/reputation and a false sense of brotherhood. (gangs)
As illogical as this is, what can you expect from shady dudes walking in the dead of night?
PostPosted: Fri Nov 23, 2012 10:09 am

To be faced with that is my biggest fear, I play along often ... When asked for weed my response is usually, "I wish." which usually gets a passive response ... I'd never live with myself if another person got hurt, because I worried for my own skin ... You were afraid for your life, and didn't think so I can't be hard on you ... Best bet would've been to keep walking ... You should never let your ego run free, and make choices for you ... Always assume the worst so you're as ready as possible ... I'm glad you lived, but hopefully you won't underestimate anyone anymore ... That was your first, and near fatal mistake on your part ... I know Renzo Gracie did the same, but he got lucky ... Any guy in the street could have a gun, or a knife ... Be careful, let the police know , and I hope you got the right medical treatment ... This only further brings out my intense hatred for guns ...

"run, run, run away live to fight another day" I've heard this many times and completely agree with it. I can't speak from personal experience, but running away/avoiding a situation like that sounds like the best way. Glad your not seriously hurt.

I go with never run .... they can shoot you from the back ... best to avoid unnecessary violence.

1. if you decide to eat four dudes up, eat them up, don't stand around and talk, don't let them circle up. String them like fish and tear through them like a lion in a goat pen.

2. old Okinawan saying "Boys fight with there fist, Men fight with swords" They shouldn't have been the only ones packing heat at midnight in a even lightly sketch area.

3. Getting yourself killed is one thing, getting others killed is another.

Yeah the idea is to not look for fights, but if those guys really brought one to you then its your right to take it. I'm not going to knock you for how it started, but brother you need to know the situation better 4v1 is lethal force authorized full ******** s**t up mode or not at all.

Running should have started long before conversation distance. I know you learned that lesson already, and I'm preaching to the choir, but if you really wanted to fight, that was what you did wrong.
