Who's celebrating this week? How do you celebrate? Do tell us!

Happy Easter to those who celebrate it! whee

I used to celebrate both religiously and secularly (church service & egg hunts), then I converted to Buddhism and only celebrated secularly with chocolate, and then I stopped eating candy because fruit is healthier, so now the Gaia event and wishing people who celebrate it a happy Easter are the extent of my celebration. XD

then I stopped eating candy because fruit is healthier,

That sounds like a very poor reason to stop eating chocolate. It sounds like a good reason to start eating fruit. But a really really awful reason to stop eating something else.

sweatdrop I just began looking at what I ate, and tried to see if I could make it healthier, and I've been feeling energetic/not lethargic ever since. Part of that was cutting down on processed foods and sweets

I don't even like any kind of chocolate besides white chocolate (which according to the FDA isn't even chocolate XD ), and a lot of my relatives have gotten a bunch of cavities because they eat a lot of candy...
Anyway, I'm not trying to convince anyone to give up candy, just explaining my reasons for doing it.

Back on topic, what does everyone think of the Gaia Easter event?

I celebrate religiously and secularly. I make candy, color easter eggs, and look for my basket that the "Easter Bunny" hide the night before. I tried telling my mom that I am getting too old to look for my basket but she still hides it. I do the whole church thing on Sunday out of respect for my family.

I've never celebrated Easter religiously, only secularly and as a kid. Then I grew up and never really celebrated it at all except for telling others to have a happy Easter.

I buy Easter Reeses. Why? Because the funny shaped reeses have more peanut butter in them and therefore they taste better. Happy Reaster!

That's fair enough 3nodding I would hate to think you were missing chocolate. Although, fruit does damage your teeth too with its acids and its sugars, so beware!

I am not liking this event >.>

I'm confused about something that's off topic. First, sorry if I seem uneducated in this topic or if I seem to have an ignorant view point. I'm confused about Easter and Christmas in Christianity and Catholicism and how they are similar/different. I have heard some Christians believe that Easter was the time when Jesus Christ rose after being crucified, then I've heard Christians argue over his b-day and whether it's on Christmas day or not? And how is any of this similar to Catholicism? Are they completely different? I've always wondered this.

First thing, it's important to know that Catholicism is a form of Christianity, and all Catholics are Christians.

Easter is the time Jesus was executed and rose from the dead, or at least the time that is celebrated. The date moves because it's based on a Hebrew calendar. Orthodox churches celebrate at a different time again.

Jesus wasn't born on Christmas day, but that's when his birth is celebrated. There are a lot of people who celebrate their birthday on a different day to when it actually is, so that's alright.

Yeah, I know. I don't eat a lot of fruit particularly anyway .

Yeah, I'm less than impressed with the items, and collecting bunnies/eggs takes longer than it should.

I saw a History channel special which concluded that he was born in the Spring, I think they went with April 17th. I know that they said it had to be in one of the Spring months because it mentioned something about shepherds out tending their sheep, and preparing for new sheep to be born.

We celebrate both religiously and secularly.

We start with Palm Sunday, reading the Passion with multiple voices, instead of just the priest's. Holy Thursday we celebrate the Last Supper by adding the washing of the disciples' feet to the Mass. Then it's Good Friday, we usually do something special at the Stations of the Cross, but our parish's is in Houston for cancer treatment and no one volunteered to host it this weekend. Saturday, our family likes to go to the Easter Vigil Mass. It's a really long Mass that includes lots of readings. The reason for this is that this is usually when catechumans(sp?) are baptised. We also like to make meringues that teach kids the Easter story while they make them. Then is Easter morning, which, technically we don't have to go to and usually don't if we went to the Vigil Mass.

Secularly, we used to have Easter baskets, but mine got lost and this year we just decided to ask for a single thing of candy. We used to get saints medals and prayer cards, maybe a book or CDs or something. I try to get a new dress each year for Easter and Christmas.

And, by the way, one square a day of the right dark chocolate is good for you. As for white chocolate, if it uses real cocoa butter, it's still chocolate.

I'm celebrating, mainly by going to church for the first time since last summer xD I'm going home to my mom's so I'm going to the sunrise service at the church I attended in high school. I'm looking forward to seeing my old youth ministers and stuff again.

My mom will probably make a nice lunch before I leave on Sunday too. She might have some chocolate and gifts for me as well. I grew up in a pretty secular house, so we don't really have any traditions.

I'm celebrating by going to the church for the first time since February. And I want to pray some more than usually to connect more to what is celebrated.
In our family we have some traditional meals for Easter, otherwise no traditions. I used to get chocolate candy when I was a child but that's been over for a long time.
I'm specially happy to finally rest; at school there are vacations from Thursday to Monday.
