ive seen a bunch of videos on youtube of people riding cattle and it just makes me want one even more

so, is is safe for the cow? can they hold a person's weight without getitng hurt?

also what type of cow would be best for this?

Cows have been used for packing and hauling, I assume they wouldn't mind a measly person on them.
Buffalo, Brahma Steers, and Longhorn steers seem like the most popular mounts, though I don't see why you couldn't use any of the larger breeds. I used to ride around one of our Polled Hereford steers, even.

I had a Limousine steer that I used to ride. I would stay away from the dairy breeds, most of them have a very prominent spine, but I would think any of the beef breeds would be fine. Though there is temperament to consider as well, not all beef breeds are sane ninja

I would avoid Angus, they've been heavily bred for production and their temperaments have fallen to the wayside. Every one I've met has been unpredictable and gave few warnings before taking action.
Charolais, much as I hate to say, should be avoided until you have a good head for cattle. They're a "smarter" breed that usually know just how big they are in relation to you and will use that to their advantage. That said I've also known some wonderfully sweet Charolais who wouldn't hurt you if you were the only thing standing between them and a fire.
Brahman. These are the breed most frequently used for bull riding. The ones I've met (all steers, cows and calves) have been pushy and quite willing to charge. Reportedly also fence breakers and not fun to get back in.

Ones to go for I'd look at Herefords. Wonderful, even tempered and haven't been subject to the heavy breeding of other beef breeds.
Longhorns. Haven't had any one-on-one with them, but from what I've heard they're very tractable and trainable, plus they've got a built in set of handlebars rofl
Simetal (Simital) seen a variety of spellings for this one. It's a multi purpose breed for both beef and dairy, mostly even tempered and tractable, but can be a bit spooky.

Personally I love Charolais, then again I did raise them for 14 years. Herefords come in at a close second, followed by Siemitals.

We raise Hereford cattle on my family farm. Real good cattle if they've been worked with, only ever had a handfull of crazies in the twenty-one years that I've been on the farm. ('course, one of those crazies was an Angus cross, the newest one is Holstein cross. rolleyes )
Personally, I think the Polled ones are ever so slightly easier to get along with; every horned one we've had was a bit more on the wild side, but not necessarily a crazy one. Not that we've had many of them, so I could just be biased.
Longhorns are bigger than most Herefords, and Herefords are generally more easily attainable, affordable, and easier keepers, as I understand it. Plus, they're pretty. blaugh

I always thought it was so neat to see a cow with a rider! I've only seen it once and that was on TV on somthing on RFD tv. It was a longhorn if i remember correctly, and I saw a longhorn advertised as rideable in craigslist if i remember right. I think a lot of people use them.
