I love drill team! I was on a drill team(it was usually a quadrill) with my summer internship at a farm. They are super fun and a great experience to lean to work with other horses and riders together and really work as a team.

I was on a Friesian drill team for about 2 months and we would perform for people who came to tour our farm, they were "bus shows". This was anywhere from 30-60 people. We had many strong and weak performances. The weak ones usually happened with a horse who just wasn't cooperating in the pattern. Others were when we needed to fill a spot quick with a new rider, so the pattern was off a little. Sometimes in the performanced tining would be off, but sometimes you can't tell.

For preparing you need to go over the pattern several times, on the ground and in the saddle. Make sure the music(if you have any) starts and stops at the right time and you make the manuvers at the right time. It's all about timing and working together. There will be perfect rides and not so perfect rides. You can't control all the factors, its like a horse show, sometimes thing will go bad. If that happens, just continue on with the pattern don't stop unless the horse is way out of control, then stand quietly off to the side out of the way of the patterns. Also, know what horses work well together so they don't get angry if they have to ride side by side with eachother.

Well, I think that's about it. But remember, have fun! That's what drill is about. wink Good luck!
