"Camelot!"
"It's only a model!"
"Shh!"

King Arthur and his knights go on a quest from god to find the Holy Grail, while having to deal with Frenchmen, virgins, killer rabbits and other zany dangers.

In the late 60's and early 70's there was a British comedy show called Monty Python's Flying Circus. Is was a typical sketch format show, much like Saturday Night Live. They were a smash in Europe, but over in America not many knew about it. And most of us were introduced to the show by seeing this movie and learning about it later on. I was one of those folks.

When I first saw this movie I didn't really understand it at first, maybe because I was younger and had a small attention span. The only thing I found to be funny was the black knight scene. But years later when I re-watched it, I was literally rolling on the floor laughing.

The black knight scene was just as funny as ever, as was the killer rabbit, the whole obsesiveness about swallows, coconuts and shrubberies. Even the fact that right from the opening credits it tries to be serious, but there’s all these ridiculous subtitles and stuff about mooses, then the scene revealing the coconuts instead of horses is just clever. I can actually make the noise with my hands instead of using coconuts. And fourth wall humor is always funny. I could talk about this film for hours it's that great.

It's got great characters and wonderfully funny scenes and is always worth watching at least many times over.

Final Rating: 9/10

When it comes to the Monty Python films, Americans tend to enjoy Holy Grail the most. Britain's enjoy Life of Brian more... I can honestly say as an American this is indeed true.

Quest for the Holy Grail is one of the funniest movies ever made. But I find that when it comes to anything Python or British for that matter, it is an acquired taste. British humor is very dry, and quite a few of the jokes go well over the heads of American viewers. Even me the first time I've seen it. But the more I watch British television, the more their comedic style rubbed off on me, and in many cases I'll take the dry comedy from Jolly old England over the crap that has passed off as comedy here in the states in recent years.

So if you like killer bunnies, Knights of Ni, bizarre witch hunts and intellectual discussions about Swallows, then Quest for the Holy Grail is the perfect film for you.
