So I'm taking a creative writing class at my school and part of my portfolio for the course includes poetry. I'm pretty good at poetry, but I was completely stuck on what to write! >< So I used this method:
1) Pull up a new blank Word document and create three columns--one for verbs, one for adjectives, and one for nouns.
2) Google a random word generator and select the type of word that falls into your first column. Once you find a word you like or that sounds interesting, type it into the corresponding column in your document.
3) Repeat this for the other two columns so that you have an equal number of words in each column (about 20 would be a good amount)
4) Read across so that you have three different words, one of each type, all put together.
5) Connect every three words across into a line of your poem and--done! Once it's all touched up and put together, it sounds really amazing.
6) Celebrate with your easy button! Lol
Feel free to give it a try and post in this thread--I'd love to see any other impromptu poems you guys come up with! ^-^

For me I have a simpler tactic that requires less of a tactic, and more of sheer luck(Or Talent, if you're lucky), basically strike a random key, then right down the first word that you can think of that starts with the letter. Even if you strike a number, a colon, you can still go from there.

Oh cool, you are working on your portfolio? I got stuck making the guidelines for the end of year English portfolio, and poetry is going to be a big part (to the dismay of my classmates). I might use your tactics (Both yours and Tolvo's) if I need a filler!
