 Karis had followed a river winding east towards where the forests met the plains but weren't too far from the mountain feet. Karis was happy that the warmer weather had come around. She had been traveling with chiyuki and chrno looking for Chrno's friend. She had decided to go looking for herbs while everyone slept. It was surprising to her to find a few other ulaya up quite this early. What was really catching her eyes was the bright color of one.. a little one... a... baby one. Of course, the sight of children always still moved her spirit. Her biological clock had been ticking it's hardest since Chiyuki came into her life.
She picked up her pace as she skipped along heading towards the baby. The closer she came, her eyes glazed over at such pretty bright colors. She wondered what her own children might look like some day. She then slowed down as she kept walking towards but also daydreaming about if she had Chiyuki's babies. Oh... maybe she would be bonded to him forever. It was a very romantic daydream, and she was refreshed with faith that he may still love her.
Nearing the baby, her senses came back to her. "Hey there little one!"

Styx had been following Ophelia- as per usual- when suddenly they had stopped to rest and Ophi had gone off to hunt. Apparently there was some sort of thingymajigg going on somewhere and Ophi wanted to find someone who knew about it; and that involved travelling all the way to the plains and Styx had never been to the plains before so WHEEEEE~! It was an ADVENTURE.
And they'd meet new big fluffy thingys and Styx couldn't wait to meet somebody new because new people were INTERESTING. But then again Ophi didn't want to meet anyone unless she had to, and she always got all sad when she met somebody new. Styx could never tell why though...
Styx turned around, a big grin on her face as a purple fluffy skipped over. "Hello, purple fluffy~!"  Ophelia had left Styx by the stream so she could hunt. After all, they had traveled all night and the small kit was probably tired- although it was Styx she was talking about. But anyway, here she was, crouching down in the thicket a short way- close enough she would hear if Styx was in danger- from the stream and hoping for some prey to come by.
A solemn smile crept on her face as a bird flew down from the treetops to land only a few feet away. Quickly she sprang, barely catching it with her claws and ending it's life with n** to the neck.
Wait... Was that a stranger's voice from over where Styx was? Abandoning her kill, she sprinted out if the bushes and into the clearing where Styx and an unknown purple Ulaya were talking. The Ulaya looked harmless enough, but...
"Who are you?" she growled in a deep, almost male-sounding tone.

Karis's blue gem like eyes flitted up and took in the older darker ulaya coming into view. At first she thought, this must be this baby's mother. How lucky! Then, she looked again and noticed this female was one of the Moto. She then looked at the baby who did not have any of those traits. She thought it was curious, but she was quickly brought to attention by the tone of the female's voice when she spoke.
"I'm Karis. I just happened to be passing by. I usually have a summer home in the forest in a deep thicket. During the winter, I go up to live in one of the mountain caves. Since spring is about to wax into summer, I thought it was time to go make sure noone else had moved into my thicket before I got back."
Then she looked down at the little one who was so brightly colored and made smiles and googly faces at her. "Is this your baby? It's so bright and colorful. Reminds me of some flowers and some birds I've seen. You're so lucky to have her. I do wish I could have children one day." Then, she shut up quickly. She had said too much about herself in that. or, she was afraid she had. She inwardly chided herself for the slip of indescretion.

Ophelia was secretly amused by the babble of information about summer homes and winter homes, but didn't say as much. How talkative! She wished she could be open like that... Although, Karis was giving her the impression that she was bit, well... Flighty. Ophelia relaxed herself outwardly so she wouldn't scare her; she had the feeling that the more nervous Karis got the more she'd babble. Frankly, she didn't really like meaningless babble.
"I just asked your name-" Ophelia began in a curt but not nearly as hostile tone before she was visibly shocked by the Ulaya's question. "You mean Styx? No no, she's not-"
"Ophi is Styx's parental figure, yes~!" Styx interupted.

Karis looked a bit apologetic and embarrassed at being corrected like that. She hadn't really meant to just go on. It was force of habit sometimes. She then started to feel awkward. She rubbed the back of her neck with a paw and then continued to slowly move her paw upwards onto the top of her head and sometimes rubbing it while sometimes feeling the textures of her scalp. It was somehow calming her in this.
"Sorry bout that.... Yeah.... I guess I do get carried away sometimes... with new people and all.. Guess I never got very good with how to behave in front of new people..."
Then her eyes widened as she nodded her head as Ophelia said 'no', and then she smiled and stifled a giggle when Styx corrected.
"Well... anyways.. what are you guys up to? Hmm? Is it anything I can be of assistance with?" She was trying to act as common place as though she knew them. This had become her tactic to win over more friends over hte last few years. Surely, if she made herself of avail to others, they might want to keep her around.

Ophelia stifled a giggle at Styx's interruption and put her paw on Styx's head, gently rolling it side to side as she listened to Karis. Or, at least, partly listened. She had seen her before somewhere, she was sure of it!
But where... Ophelia knew she'd never talked to her before, but definitely seen her. "We're traveling, so there's nothing you can help us with. Sorry." She dipped her head in thanks and acknowledgement of the offer.
Styx squinted at the purple Ulaya as her head was rolled from side to side. Ophi was being po-lite and not asking about it; but Styx had SEEN this purple fluffy before. "Styx has seen Karis before, yes! Does Karis travel with a big white not-so-fluffy fluffy?"

Karis looked wide eyed at the little one. "Why yes. I do happen to. However, it would seem when I departed to gather some herbs last... That I got myself lost a bit. That's my Chiyuki. He's my saving knight." She smiled hard.
She then made smiley faces with Styx. She thought about how interesting it was to have others see her before she meets them.
"Do you remember how long ago it was that you saw me? Was it while it was still snowy? or has it been since the spring?"

Ophelia saw the look on Karis's face and was immediately sorry for her; misunderstanding the expression a little. A love triangle or something...? Poor dear. She had seen her with the white Ulaya- who she was assuming was this Chiyuki- and in the brief moments she had watched them she hadn't really thought he looked that interested in her. Karis, on the other hand...
Oh, she hated these situations.
Styx grinned back. "Styx thinks there was snow, yes~"

Karis was caught flickering between a smile and a grimace. The thought of being seen with Yuki in the snow. That was happy. She could easily picture handfuls of memories from snowy times.
Yet, she continued to be plagued with grimaces at the thought of having been lost too long. Already the spring was warming too much and giving over to summer. If they had seen her with him back then.. that was a while ago. There'd be no way they'd have seen him recently. She decided to herself that it was better not to ask and hear it in her ears that noone had seen him.
Her eyes observed again the older female. Apparently, she didn't want to get involved.
"Well.. say... do you two mind if i travel with you for a bit? It's been pretty lonely all by myself... and.. if i get lost out here with you all.. why.. .you wouldn't have to worry.. since i wasn't part of your party to begin with."
