A rainbow crossed the sky, like a specter in the still night, leaving behind a streak of radiant color that glistened with the backlight of the soft moon and stars. But alas, this was no natural wonder to be seen after a storm. No, this was a Soquili. An AliKirin… A Kirin with large wings that glowed as if lit from within by some strange power. The Soquili landed and let out a soft whicker, allowing herself to catch her breath. She was a rather small mare, dainty and of small features. Her face was aglow with delight at her surroundings, which were awash with the soft glow of her iridescence and the sweet glow of the moon. “Good eve, Madam Moon.” She whispered, looking upwards.

She adored being out at night, though she be a small thing, and easily looked down upon.

Te walked around the forest which he had slowly came to call his home, it was another cool night and a quiet one. He looked to the tree tops to the moon and breathed in the cool air. He shifted his wings and chains debating a short flight, but decided against it. His eyes caught sight of another stray feather as it fell with a single drop of blood. His eyes closed and he flashed back to his young adult life in days before the scars.

When he opened his eyes again a single tear fell from his eye and he continued walking. He glanced back to the moon, her glow echoing in his silver scars and blood. It was then he saw a rainbow seemingly flowing and fading from the night sky. He found this more intriguing then strange he followed the fading colors and saw its glowing source. Her words he heard first and then he saw her, a rainbow glowing beauty of dainty and elegant features. She was truly a rainbow lighting the darkest of nights.

He stood back not wanting to invade her space or startle her, but his chains were always shifting and never laid silent so he chanced a few paces closer and stepped under the moons watchful sight.

Aurora's gaze shifted at the sound of chains, and what she saw startled her a bit. He was a darkly brilliant creature, wings tipped in vibrant white and... was that the smell of blood? Poor dear must be injured. She trotted forward quickly, ignoring boundaries and walked around him, taking in the scars and wounds that wept still. She let out a soft hiss at seeing the severity off his injuries. "You... are hurt..." She murmured, her voice as soft as a dove's mournful coo.

She stepped back away from him, her wings spread slightly, her eyes gazing into the dark, searching from some unforeseen foe.

In her searching, her eyes came to rest once again upon the solemn male. "Are you alright, sire?" She whispered.

Te stared in wonder at the glowing mare that stood before him. He became lost in her eyes when she came to stand in front of him after circling him, surveying his wounds. "A Rainbow to light the darkest night...." He spoke almost in a mono tone as he stared down at her. He shifted his wings and chains again when he realized she had spoken to him.

"You...are kind, but I am fine. These wounds shall never heal. I thank you for your concern. My name is Kanashimi Te, but you can call me Te for short if it pleases you."

"You act shocked that I care even remotely about your injuries... Has no one ever stopped to wonder and help ease the pain?" She murmured, her glowing gaze looking upwards at the tall stallion. "Te..." The name would be an easy one to remember. "I am Aurora... Though many have called me by other names." She let out a soft bell-like laugh, before smiling as well as she could at the moment. Her mind turned toward the more worrisome thing, and stepping forward, she gazed upward at the tall stallion.

With little thought, she dipped her head downward, the butt of her curved Kirin horn pressing lightly to Te's shoulder. Lifting her head, she dipped it once more against his side, just beneath his heavy wings. Stepping back, she let out a soft sigh. As a Kirin, she had the ability to use acupressure, which was in most terms the use of pressure to help improve mood and relieve the tensions of pain. "Do you feel any better? Forgive me for my inherent lack of respect in personal space... It's just you looked like you needed a bit of... a pick-me-up." She smiled softly, hoping he wouldn't be angry.

Te looked down at the mare eyes soft but sad as his words flowed with a mellow chill. "Shocked may not be the correct verb Id use. ...Im not usually one to meet others, but those I do most say and do nothing...it is as it should be..." He shook his mane lightly disturbing the black chain the closely hugged his neck. As the mare spoke his name and then gave her own, the mark of his oath on his chest gave off a slight glow before settling once again.

"Another name? I too have known other names, but I have long since forgotten my first and true name as that life is gone....... Aurora....a name befitting one of your beauty." He gave a slight smile and his vibrant yellow eyes gave a quick and faint glimmer of joy before hiding again. When Aurora walked closer and touched her horn to his shoulder and then side his breathing stayed calm as he watched her. Her glowing horn gave off a warmth as it touched him and he was somewhat surprised at the kindness the petite mare was showing to him.

He looked down into her rainbow eyes when she stepped back again and gave a kind half smile "Your kindness alone has given some warmth back to my cold battered body, but I fear the wounds shall never heal....yet another reminder of the Oath I made so long ago....", his chest marking started to glow again as he looked past Aurora into the distance, but soon returned his gaze leaving his past behind him.

The look Aurora gave him was one filled with thoughtful confusion, but sadness as well. She wondered about the weight his past pushed upon him and why the look that sat in his eyes seemed to fade the light from them.

A glint caught her eye and she looked toward the soft light that faded from the marking upon Te's chest as she watched. She felt the urge to poke it with her nose in curiosity, but resisted as the marking was not a stand-alone thing, but attached to the peculiar, sad Stallion whom she felt a bit of pity for. "What is that?" She murmured, her expression changing to one that could be reminiscent to a curiousness found only on foals. "It glows... Yet it is dark as well." What was it that caused such a strange thing?

She flapped her glowing wings for a moment, as if in thought, but then laughed. "Don't mind me... I'm such a nosy." Yes. She did indeed call herself a nosy. She tended to call herself silly names out of habit, for her 'father' had called her names all her childhood, and she had grown to think it normal.

Te watched the bright young mare with a curiosity and awe of how she seemed to be feeling sad for him? Why, why would another feel sad for the chains that he wore, his battle scars. It was curious, none had taken an interest in him in passing before...

His eyes had dimmed, but now brightened slightly at the sight of the mare, she drew closer as his chest marking dimmed with the moonlight. Her curiosity sparked again, Te almost felt a smile transfer from his eyes to his face, but not quite. She questioned the mark, again taking Te by surprise. "You are not 'a nosy'. You are still young and innocent, questions are healthy....."

But his words hesitated with his next words, how to keep the darkness contained, not to stain the bright soul before him, but finally he did answer.."This Mark....is one symbol of my Oath to the Hand.", with his words the mark started to glow again and this time it did not fade. It felt like his chest was burning, the same feeling as when he first received the mark, but his pain would not show in his face, nor in his eyes...the Pain laid with the darkness that he kept chained away.....

Aurora leaned her small, delicate nose down to touch the mark that burned like an ember upon Te's chest. This mark, she knew, gave some sort of pain to Te, and it bothered her for some reason. He hurt, and she disliked seeing people hurt. She brushed her nose against the mark before looking up at Te. His golden eyes held such a peculiar sadness, like he grieved about some past thing, and yet it was still a fresh wound in his heart and mind. "You shouldn't bear your pain alone... That's what friends and family are for. To help ease it." She murmured, scuffing a glowing hoof against the ground in an attempt to keep herself from tearing up. She was sad that he was in pain, and she knew naught why it hurt so much.

"Te... Is there anything I can, to add a smile... To ease your sadness...?" She wanted to help. She had seen the ghost of a smile on his face, yet it was an empty one.

Te watched her movements as she leaned down and touched the mark upon his chest as it burned again, it's glow growing brighter ever so slightly with her touch. Her eyes showed a pain he was not familiar with, or he had long forgotten....the pain of sadness, sadness for another?

He stood there and watched and listened as she spoke a confused surprise in his eyes at the mention of family, 'Family'.......'Friends'......I have none...I am meant to have no one, to the honor of my Oath...." His eye seemed to turn cold again as memories from his past flashed in his mind, his pupils widening as he saw his family killed again, but with a blink the images were gone...

He glanced back to the bright mare, being in her presence seemed to calm him, even with his past haunting him she gave him a light to look forward too instead of always staring into the darkness of his past. His eyes reflected a kindness at her question and he took a step forward, chain rattling again. "I've stared into the darkness of my past for a long time, but you seem to be a beakon of Hope, the brightest Light I've seen in a long time....Never loose that.......But....this Sadness I carry isn't mine alone, but the Sadness of the world....I am the Hand....it is my duty to carry this Sadness and Judge those accordingly.....it is my duty alone......"

The mark on his chest fully dimmed and the deep sadness returned to his eyes as he looked to the young mare. Aurora was a light he'd long thought extinguished from the world, he feared that if he stayed with her long, her light would be tainted...and he couldn't bear the thought of another like his lost love of long ago...another Light of Hope to snuffed out...as much as he wanted to stay he knew he couldn't for much longer. Thinking on this he looked to the moon, holding a deeper hidden sadness from breaking free.....

Aurora felt relatively confused at the whole Hand thing. She had never heard of it, but neither had she met a four winged Soquili before. She had heard of Angeni, knew that they were the embodiment of certain things in this vast world, but Te... the way it sounded was that he was the embodiment of sadness... of sorrow. But did he have to be sad as well? Aurora did not like it. The young mare scowled up at Te before she did something she didn't expect herself to do: she headbutted him hard in the chest and huffed. "You always always have a choice! No matter what others say or do, your actions are your own." The mare was glaring rather childishly up at the large stallion, but there was a spark of outrage in those glowing eyes.

"But you shouldn't be alone. Someone should have friends.... and family. Never alone. Being alone is a terrible thing. And you shouldn't be." She murmured, implying in some small way that she would be a friend, and she quickly peered down at the ground as if to escape his golden stare. She knew her words seemed harsh, especially at the fact that she truly knew very little of what his past held.

Te continued to look to the sky, but could sense her confusion. He knew he was known in these lands as an Angeni...not only that, but the embodiment of Sadness, charged with Sorrow. But what those in these lands didn't know is he was more then just the mere Angeni of Sorrow he was also the Hand of Sorrow, not merely the keeper and watcher, but he truly was the sorrow of the world.

He saw it as his duty to take the dark sorrows and scars of the world upon himself to bring more light to the world, to keep those like Aurora without the fear of great sorrows and strife. He knows that it's impossible to live without any sadness as we learn and grow from them, but some one should never have to know of....like those of his own past, the dark memories that still hunted his waking dreams....

It wasn't until he felt her headbutt him in the chest that he was pulled out of his growing sadness again. The action making him take a single step back with his front right hoof, his chains shaking from the vibration. His eyes grew wide in shock as he stared down at her. He listened to her words...anger and sadness filled them as she spoke and all he could do was stare into her eyes, feeling a pain he had not felt in many long years...but the word for this pain...what was it...He was...disappointed in himself and angry at making her upset.

He walked over to her an old kindness once long gone from his eyes staring back at her as he nudged at her head to look him in the eyes "Though you have seen your share of trials in your life, I have seen more....but what you say is true..I have a choice....I HAD a choice long ago and once it was made there was no going back as these chains are my bond that can never be lifted. Ill gladly take the sorrows of the world upon my back if it means one less child left alone with no family...."

He could still see the anger in her eyes and sadness with her words and his next action surprised him: he embraced her, stepping forward and leaning his neck down lightly hugging her warm glowing body. When he pulled away a single silver tear fell from his eye that he did not try to hide, "It is better for me to be alone, those that I care for are taken from me....my family and friends......the one I loved...they were all taken from me, even my mentor and Master turned against me.......Its best I live alone...I can't risk tainting one with light as pure as yours, I can't trust the Darkness that lies within my soul...."

Aurora couldn't fathom being alone in the world, without a friend or someone's shoulder to rest a weary head. She frowned, and nosed against Te's jaw. "You aren't alone, you sad thing. There are people who don't let sadness rule their lives, who allow a smile to brighten their days, a laugh to cleanse the pain, and a song to bring about a new memory." She knew it was one thing to say, another to do. But Te just seemed so distraught. "Make new memories instead of lingering in the past, however hard it may be."

She stepped back, or rather danced, away from his sudden hug, a smile creasing her face. "Teeeeee. Smile~ Teeeeeee. You can smile! Teeeeeee." She giggled, her rigidness of earlier anger gone as quick as it had come. She hated being disheartened, and even though Te was such a sad creature, she could sense he did try.

Te was lost in her innocence for a time. He wished he could the world as she saw it. To go back to days like that, to days he spent in love and happy, before darkness and sorrow filled his heart. "To be alone...this can be defined in many ways....I do not see myself as alone in a sense. I have the peace of the world around me and the joy of those I pass reminds me that I am not alone and that I have someone watching over me.....but my memories of the past are all I have some days....they are all that keep me going when the sun is hidden from my sight....new memories are made indeed as I shall treasure my meeting of you bright Aurora you have reminded me that new memories are needed just as importantly as some old should not be forgotten."

The light dimmed from the sky as a cloud moved to cover the moon, but the light that came off Aurora gave enough light for it to not make a difference as she continued to talk her anger leaving her eyes as she giggled trying to get him to smile. Inside his heart laughed as she did and for the first time in a very long time both his eyes and his face gave a warm-hearted smile. "Aurora.....You are a very special light in this world..."

The mare smiled back at Te with an air of true happiness emanating from her. She was not about to let the sullen mood the stallion exuded get to her. In fact, if she could change it, make him smile, then her day could also be brightened. She walked back over to Te and nudged him, her eyes serene, yet thoughtful as he spoke. "I like being a light for someone... It gives me some sort of purpose in the world. To light someone's path... Whoever that may be. I can do that. Without question." She giggled, her wings flapping softly, causing her hair to float for a moment in a halo of black and shimmering rainbow strands.

She felt like dancing, happy at the smile she had put upon Te's face. Why it made her so happy? She was uncertain. Yet it did. It made her feel bubbly and warm and gleaming.
