As a child of the 80's I grew up watching reruns of the old Muppet show, Muppet movies, and to this day remain to be a big fan of the Muppets. Unfortunately over the past 10 years Disney hasn't done much with the Muppet property. A cameo in a TV or movie here, maybe a low budget direct to DVD movie there.
About a year ago I heard rumors of a new Muppet movie possibly going into production. And yesterday I was ecstatic when I looked online and found the trailer!
Kermit, Ms. Piggy and the gang are back! And they are taking no prisoners!
Loosely, the story is about an evil millionaire Texas Tycoon who wants to tear down the old historic theater where the Muppet Show was filmed so he can dig for oil. Kermit and the Gang reunite so they can try and save their beloved theater.
The movie is co written by Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother) A long time fan of the Muppets, and will be directed by James Bobin (Flight of the Concords) Who will also be doing the music for this film. And you can't have a Muppet movie without music and tons of celebrity cameo's. And the list is LONG. Including such celebrities like: Neil Patrick Harris, Jack Black, Ricky Gervais, Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, Wanda Sykes, and many many many more.
Many pros and cons do pop up as I look over the production of this film. While it is a pro to bring back Jim Henson's son Brian Henson to be a part of this project, it is also sad to note that Frank Oz will not be involved. And while I am excited to see my favorite muppets back on the big screen, there is much doubt that this film starring muppets will not be able to go toe to toe with CGI films which have dominated children and family films for the past several years.
In the end, I am eagerly looking forward to this film. Many elements I have seen I feel will hold true and keep up with the spirit of the traditional Muppet films from years ago. And I will take the Muppets over your fanciest most expensive CGI film any time.
Slated to be released: Nov. 23rd 2011 in Theaters

I just saw the trailer. At first I had no clue it was a Muppet movie because the picture showed Segal and Adams in a park. I thought it was a new rom com. But now I am happily surprised! I love the Muppets!
