"Not yet!" Exclaimed a man as he ran forward into a shroud of darkness. His dark blue hair waved in the air, a steel blade shined in his hand. He was dressed in dark clothing, with pitch-black shoulder guards. He lunged his sword forward into the darkness. A hissing noise surrounded him, a dark hand reached out from the darkness. The man punched through the palm of the hand, and it shredded into pieces of black feathers that slowly fell to the ground. He tightened the grip on his sword with two hands and began to drag the sword through the shadows. The sword was cutting through it, reveal small traces of light. The hissing grew louder, the darkness began to rise.
The man quickly drew his sword out from the shadows, and held it in front of him. He jumped after it, but the darkness soon faded into the sky, dim light from the moon lit the small area which was now more visible. The ground was rocky, small patches of grass were growing in small areas. A tree or two was planted poorly. About a quarter of a mile behind him, a large kingdom towered high into the clouds. The kingdom was a chain of castles of all shapes, connected by large halls. The man sighed as he looked up into the sky, and at the moon, he saw something move swiftly past the moon. He clenched his sword angrily then tossed it away from him. He turned to face the kingdom.
"..." He stared, his eyes carried a look of sorrow. "I failed." Said the man silently. "Whatever it was, I only injured it, it got away...Damn it!" He gritted his teeth. "It'll be back, as their king, I must be ready for it." He sighed, and sluggishly made his way back to the castle, his sword was left behind. He ripped the shoulder guards and tossed them aside.
After about ten minutes, he was outside the kingdom courtyard. "That thing...Took the lives of so many..." Said the man as he walked through and glanced at some graves. "How can I avenge someone...when I can't go as high as the enemy." He looked back up the moon. He slowly raised his hand to cover the moon. He clenched his fist, "I'll avenge them. All of them." He walked to the end of the court yard, and entered the kingdom through the west gate. Houses lined the roads, no one was out. He walked down the empty path, knights saw him, but stayed silent. They saw his mood. Misery. They stood their ground with their heads lowered as the king passed them back.
The young king, looking to be in his twenties, didn't expect a happy welcome. They must of seen the cloud escape him. He looked down as well as he walked by more guards and into the castle. Inside, knights were lined up, all standing straight and looking at the king with eager faces. "How did it go, my King." Said one of the knights as he bowed.
"It escaped." Said the king in a sickening tone. "The bloody thing escaped after I sliced it up."
"But it's injured then?" Asked the knight, he looked happy.
"Yes, but-"
"Then why the sad face?" Asked a woman behind the knights. She walked forward, her dark green hair flowed behind her. She wore a long, royal blue gown. She smiled sweetly at him. The knights were astonished to see the queen up.
"Because it's alive." Answered the king sourly.
"But my king." Said the knight that was still bowing. He looked up to the king through his helmet. "You gave it something worse."
"And what is that?" Asked the king quizzically.
"My, has the battle given you brain damaged?" Joked the queen. "He means you instilled fear into the creature. It will be haunted by our power, our will."
"But does such a thing know fear?" Asked the king.
"Why, of course." Laughed the queen. "All things know it, all things have something. And the creature, it fears us."
The king began to smile at her. "Your right."
"Now why don't we feast? You've had a tough battle, let's rest and eat."
"Yes..." The king grinned and exclaimed, "let us feast in it's fear, and in our pride! In Senshi!"
The knights all cheered. The queen shook her head. "Quiet now, we don't want to wake-"
A small boy entered the hall, he rubbed his eyes. "Daddy?"
