[Bwehe...I finally decided to write a story about Kendess...I had this all planned out before the "The Baguchinawan War", but I finally decided to type it up....it's amazing...so yeah...the copyrights to Seido-san for staring the roleplay, and of course, the afformentioned floating island of 'Seiken'. Other than that...all the characters and ideas belong strictly to me...don't do what people have done before...and steal them away from me ;_;
WARNING: This roleplay contains graphic violence, and some suggestive themes, but nothing that's only readable for ages 16+...
.:Ode to Simplicity: The Tale of the Voice:. Author: Setsuna_Chan6 Chapter 1 'Fallibility'
Fallibility [n] the likelihood of making errors
"Don't be afraid to sing..."
The girl suddenly turned her head, and stared at the dark haired man who stood behind her. His bangs were in his eyes, but she could see the blood that was racing down his face, staining his lips and his clothes. She felt her chin quiver, and she took a shaky step towards him. "But..."
He shook his head, still smiling. She stopped, then swallowed the lump in her throat. She felt sick. Her stomach was too tight. She started to turn her back to him, but her body wouldn't let her.
"When you know what you have to do..."
The girl forced her voice out. It came in a strained vibration, then slowly began to grow louder. The dark haired man watched in a shocked as her flesh began to glow, her tone becoming clearer.
The ground cracked, and the air chilled. Tears grew in her eyes as her pupils shrank, then vanished all together. She finally let 'it' take control of her, letting her arms fall to her side, letting her small, golden wings spread forth, making her flesh seem like a mere shadow. Nearby, the palace began to crumble, the tower caving in on itself without any warning. There was screaming. An explosion. Kendess could hear it all, she could feel the pain and the anguish, but she couldn't stop. She couldn't control herself. She was beyond saving.
Hyale threw her hands to her ears, screaming in agony. She shook her head, then looked up, snarling. She thrust her arms outward, her dress' sleeves shredding in a matter of seconds as she began her own song, much sweeter than the one that Kendess was singing. But it didn't work. Instead, her skin began to peel, then split, until she was nothing more than a pile of ashe and blood.
"...you do it..."
Behind her, the people collapsed, writhing in agony, their hands to their bloody ears, trying to dull the pain. Nothing was working. Aiden, his hands abruptly going for his head, cried out in pain. Kendess twitched, and her voice crackled a bit.
"VESPERTINE!!"
Yuki ran forward, her short, silver hair brushing into her eyes. She tried her own best to sing, but she couldn't compare to her younger sister's voice. Nobody could. Nothing, not Pacification, not Purification, not even Salvation, could drown out the voice of Destruction.
"Don't do this! You'll kill everyone!! Are you insane?!" She clasped her hands over her ears, tears in her eyes. Kendess, no, Vespertine then, turned her head a little, still singing, before her eyes flashed. Yuki shrieked as her body was shredded by an invisible force, then completely fell into ashes, the wind and the flames carrying them away.
She knew then that she was doing something far beyond her reach. She was killing people. Willingly. She killed her own sister. She'd killed the king himself. And if she could, she would kill the Loremaster, and even 'him'.
"Vespertine..."
By that point, the ground had shattered into a million pieces, and everything was literally falling apart, cascading towards the ground below. Her voice stopped abruptly, and her eyes returned, tears streaming down her face. The man, Aiden, was still standing there, and through the shadows of his hair and the blood from his face, she could see his eye glistening, looking back at her.
"...for what you know is right..."
Her eyes widened, and she started to run for him, her heels clacking on the ground. No... Her hand shot out, and she reached for him just as the cobblestone beneath his feet shattered, sending him down with everything else, with the downfall of the world. No...... She collapsed at the edge of the land, still reaching for him as he vanished within the flames and the rocks and the blood.
All sense of reality was lost to her as the ground stopped shaking, and silence dwindled in the air, leaving nothing more than the crackling of flames. No more screaming.
Oh the irony. She heard another voice, finally, something to break the silence. A man this time. She knew him. She hated him. She hated everything now. She knew that 'he' was right. He was right, and he made her realize it all, but much too late.
Everything was gone now.
She kept as far from everything as humanly possible, her wings drooped low upon her back. I don't want to see them...it'll hurt more...it'll just keep hurting... her hand went to her chest again. 'I love you...I love you I love you, dammit...!! It seemed like forever, but it was only a few minutes. The burning was intensifying, and she felt like shew as going to vomit, but she didn't, coughing up a storm instead. "Aiden...." She dug her nails into the flesh of her palm, before throwing her head back, and screaming.
'I want to save you....I really do...' Part of the ashe nearly changed to that of a garden. The image of she and Aiden, playing tag and running amok through the streets was almost seen. His smile was, as always, very vibrant. It made Vespertine's heart leap to her throat and try to come out. "Aiden?"
She choked. "It is your memory of him." A voice spoke in a whisper. She knew it immediately; the tyrant, the one who had started all of this. Her creator. The Loremaster. "You were very fond of him..."
"I was." Vespertine wiped her cheek of the fresh tears. A ragged breath followed it. "I still am." Another image appeared with her playing with his hair, and another where they were struggling to survive in the crashing waves of the ocean. They played stupid little games together. The two were very much like sisters, or something more. It made Vespertine fall to her knees again, crying very hard now. Her hands covered her eyes. "I know I have done things that I can never aplogize for." She looked up at her master's serene face. "I know I can never make up for them. I didn't lead a perfect life while I was alive. I hurt so many people, sold my soul to demons that just twisted it to their will, being punished by everyone for my power. Please, I beg you. If you can save them, the ones that I caused so much pain for, can't you take me instead? I love them more than life itself. Even if it means that I will never see anything happy in my life again, I still ask only for their revival. Please, please..." A single tear fell from the Loremaster's eye and hit the ground. She really had learned to love. She offered her eternal self just to make sure that everyone's lives, those that she'd hurt, were always happy. Slowly, he reached out, resting his hand on her head. Her wings twitched, then began to dissinigrate, just as the others had. The flames stopped, and it went quiet again. There was nothing. Just a defeaning silence that overtook the sounds of sobs and the wind just moments before. His hand glowed brightly, and she cried out in pain as her wings finally vanished, leaving nothing but a bloody tatoo upon her back. "I cannot kill you, for I know that your death would have been in vain, dear..." He frowned sadly.
"Emotions are the way to strike. It is in the understanding of the way a mind works that you can truly administer sweet pain and pleasure beyond the physical." He whispered, kneeling down slowly, and kissing her gently on the forehead. For once, she didn't hate him. For once, she wanted him to hold her like he had for her sisters, to tell her that everything would be fine.
"I will do my best for you, my child of destruction," He said gently, standing up again. The landscape, the once beautiful city of Seiken, was glowing, and starting to put itself back together. "...I will send you where you will find your own place to belong...where you can be with those who will perhaps understand your pain...I apologize, for never having been there..for being your fears and your master, for saying such words that made others flinch, making you break down crying."
There was a gust of wind, and the red and blue ashes from her sister's floated to her, then encircled her body, sinking into her as if they were raindrops. "I am sending your sisters to watch over you," He said quietly, "because of your innocence...I fear that you may not survive without then..."
"And when you go..." She felt her eyes widening a little as his pendant flashed, then shot a beam directly to her forehead, "...you will remember none of this....and when you return...it will stay that way.."
"Wait..." She pleaded. Suddenly, she didn't want to leave. She reached for him, when her world was ripped away from her, and she was thrown off the edge of the world, cascading through the clouds and the skies. Her memory was leaving her; she could see the palace in the sky disappearing as her thoughts left. She could feel her sisters stirring in her mind, suddenly yelling in their own states of shock, until she closed her eyes again, and passed out.
=-=-=-=-=-=
She opened her eyes quickly, pupils shrinking at the rays of sunlight, then returning to normal size again. She stared ahead at the people walking through the town, face devoid of any emotions. Slowly, she took an apple from a nearby stand, bringing it to her mouth, and taking a small bite. The man running the stand started yelling at her, but she didn't seem to hear, still staring blankly.
[AN: Done...so yeah...that's how Kendess joined the cute little team of the war or whatever...*giggle* I plan to go deeper into the past...to who Aiden was, and the Loremaster, and why she killed everyone..but for now, adios...*is still ill* ;_;]

.:Ode to Simplicity: The Tale of the Voice:. Author: Setsuna_Chan6 Chapter 2 'Innocence'
Innocence [n] the state of being free from sin or moral wrong; lacking a knowledge of evil
"You're stupid."
Vespertine stopped, then looked up. The blue-haired girl sitting beside her pouted, then crossed one leg over the other, glaring out from the balcony she sat on. Slowly smiling, the younger one joined her, failing on sitting upon the ledge, but doing a wonderful job of hanging from it. The foyer they had found themselves lingering near had always been of marvel to the youngest of the family. Hyale found it boring. With marble arches that lead to the ceiling, and blood-red drapes with the insignia of the most powerful man etched into each of them, everything just seem so...grand. "Why am I stupid?" She asked happily.
"B...because you just....are...you don't know anything." Hyale twitched, then let her hair fall into her face, glowering at her 'sister's' innocence. Vespertine giggled, then peered over the edge of the balcony.
"Do you think Papa will let us go to 'Urth'? Like he promised?" She asked.
Hyale stared. "What the hell's 'Urth'?"
"I dunno..."
Hyale snarled, then spat over the edge of the balcony, tightening her grip to the railing to keep herself from falling. "Idiot..." She glanced at her sister, and caught her smiling like she always was. "You made that up, didn't you?"
She shook her head. "No...I didn't ^^," She giggled, "Papa told me stories of when he went there...He said there are lots of people there..people like us ^^ And that they're almost too nice...he said it's REALLY big!" She made a hand gesture. "" Hyale scoffed, unbelieving to her sister's tales.
"Everywhere father has been is REALLY big..." She kicked away a loose leaf [tee hee ^^] . "....father has been everywhere..." She whispered, glaring out at the land below them. There were another few minutes of lingering intensity in the air. Neither girl spoke. And when Vespertine opened her mouth, Hyale just groaned, knowing that once she started talking, she'd never stop. But...she would talk anyway.
"Hyale," she started, then blinked when something caught her eye from the window. Hyale knew all too well what it was, and growled, bringing her legs back over the balcony and starting towards the stairwell. "C'mon Vespa," she said loathingly, but stopped when she turned and saw her sister running towards the windows. As she pulled them open with much struggling, a blast of cold wind and the white lace hit them both. She squealed, holding her arms up to the sky, mouth drawn into a smile and eyes wide. Instead of following her sister, she ran down the narrow hallway to the doors to the garden. Hyale groaned, then followed her, knowing it would be her head if she lost her sister. Again.
As they neared the garden, she opened the door, and nearly fell over at the sight. Vespertine gasped at the fresh-falling snow, watching as it instantly covered the ground of the garden. At just over an acre, the garden was her small escape to some sort of outside world. The moon shone down over the powdery snow. It made the crystals of ice shine like diamonds and best yet it wasn't heated like it was inside.
Vespertine's sandaled feet left small prints in the snow covering the ground as she ran forward. The flowers in the garden were still in full bloom. Snow graced their petals of red, green, and all colors that Vespertine adored. Trees climbed up to and embraced an ebony sky that held many sparkling stars within its dark embrace. It was amazing that this could be inside a villan's castle as well. Hyale scowled, then sat down on a snow covered bench to watch the girl run and play in the garden's paths. "Idiot..."
"Hyale-onee-san, it's so pretty!" She cried, turning to her sister with her hands at her chest. "It's amazing!!" She sighed despite herself. Seeing the girl made that strange feeling inside come back again. That feeling was peace, even though she would deny every bit of it if it was pointed out to her.
Once bored of watching her sister on her first snowy extravaganza, she rose, and coughed into her hand. "Hey, c'mon. Let's go." She yelled, waving her arm boredly. Vespertine whined, but after much persuasion and pulling, she got her inside. "Go change your dress," She said, motioning to the now dripping robes that were her sister's. "You're gonna get sick. Then father will have a fit." She kicked her sister's a** rather harshly, but Vespertine didn't say anything, simply scampering off as she was accustomed to.
Even out of sight, Hyale found herself staring after her youngest sister, her eyes glazed. Those like her were rare, and were wounded for their actions and their beliefs. Being made first, she was the only one who was perfect. Her lord and father, tyrant over all that resided in the tiny world of Seiken, had made her to be the perfect image of her mother. With hair as blue as the oceans, and flesh as pale and free from any impurities that it would make any female die for her. She had two small, demonic wings that pertruded from her back, and she knew that they were often being swooned over. She was only a few years old, old enough to already have been four-foot nine, and blessed with the grace that most would die for. Unfortunately, her personality was bitter, and she often found herself cursing those who were less fortunate, turning her nose up at the innocent, and hateful to those that she knew most. Her father had made her, along with everyone in their kingdom that way. Innocence, kindness, those who were simple, were the ones to avoid.
Her sister, unfortunately, was one of those people. She was only a few years younger, and yet seemed to be wise in her way of words. The innocence of children had always facinated Hyale. Vespertine was only at four-feet, making her prone to being ignored, or run over by those who didn't see her. She had light-brown hair that trailed to her shoulders, and her skin was always dirty in one way or another, whether it was crawling into the hearth in the grand dining room, or running in the garden when the rain fell, splashing mud upon herself. She was far from pretty; she was plain. She had simple, golden eyes that always held a sparkle in them when she talked. And her wings; they were small, and the colour of her eyes, hardly noticeable, small and light and feathery. Useless. She constantly discovered all that she could muster without fainting from excitement, and talked to anybody, and everybody. She was a strapping picture of innocence, not knowing half of of the vulgarities her sister often spat out, thank god, and found herself questioning things that their system had become accustomed to. They strictly obeyed one and only one God, Deus, and all other religions were considered demonic, and were chosen to be ignored all together. But Vespertine seemed to know a link between any sort of society, and would often burden herself in attempts to bring them together.
A door opened, and Hyale looked up and found a man holding a girl cradled in his arms. He yawned and let a small chuckle escape him. The girl had curled her self into a tiny ball and was sleeping against his chest, her head tucked to the crook of his neck. Hyale flinched. Compared to his nearly seven foot tall frame, she was small.
He was not tiny by definition at all.
He had darkly-tanned skin and a muscled frame that complimented his size. His hair was long, black and always pulled back. His eyes were the most stunning ice blue that any woman would kill for. Any woman except his children, that is. They were perfectly happy just as they were.
Hyale slowly walked over, and peered into his grasp, watching the girl he held stir. She opened her deep red eyes, and stared at her sister in silence, then simled. Hyale sighed, relieved. "Hey H...yale..." She whispered, then rested against the man again.
"Hyale," he said in a deep voice that sent vibrations through the girl in his arms, "where has your sister gone?" He asked, tilting his head down to gaze upon his daughter. She curtsied, then stood again. "She's gone to change."
"Why?" He frowned. She glanced at the window, and as he saw, he sighed, knowing all too well himself that she was probably "Ugh... Aquiris quodcumque rapis*..." He whispered. Hyale smiled to herself, then shook her head. "Aye sir......Yuki?" The girl in his arms looked over at her, blinking weakly. "You okay?" Yuki smiled, then curled in her father's arms, nodding. "I have to go," he said quietly, shifting her in his arms, then walking off. Hyale frowned, then closed her eyes, and waited for Kendess. Yuki, unfortunately, was the less fortunate of the three. Being made second, her wings were less than perfect, a result of careless creation. They were deformed, and there was skin burned from them, and what looked like feathers seemed to try and grow from the ends. They were black, like Hyale's, but the feel to them was scaley, and often made Yuki cringed when they were touched. The Loremaster, their father, their creator, loved Yuki in a way different from his other daughters. He was constantly stealing her away from her siblings, subjecting her to tests that made her come out more and more broken each time. He completely avoided Vespertine, though he'd ask about her frequently, and Hyale was who he had left in charge, viewing her as more of an adult than a child. Her hair, having once been a gorgeous blonde, was now the colour of ashe, or tainted snow, and her skin was littered with scars and marks from the needles. Her eyes though, were what drew Hyale to her sister. She had beautiful ruby-red eyes that glistened nearly all the time, making her look as though she would cry. Yuki, sadly, had no social skills at all, and was easilly upset. Vespertine wasn't even allowed near her, for fear that her empty-mindedness might cause her to go into an emotional fit.
"Hyale-san!" She jumped, and turned when she saw Vespertine run over, her yellow dress replaced with a white one, though she kept on her sandals. "I saw Yuki leaving with papa! Is Yuki okay?" She asked worriedly. Hyale frowned. "She's fine kid. Get going. You have piano lessons." She said, kicking her sister's butt lightly as she turned to leave.
[x][x][x][x]
He was off once again with his arms wrapped around his precious breath protectively. She was so much more to him. She was what kept him from losing that rare sense of him self. By watching her, he seemed to gentle. Others noticed this change in him from the very moment he brought her to the palace. Some appreciated it. Others, like jealous females on the isle, hated it. They could not get their lord to so much as blink an eye in their direction. One actually tried to strike at the child in a rage of anger. The Loremaster took the blow before Yuki even knew what was happening.
He had sent her away with Hyale even though she was curious about what happened. She did not even see the female's claws rise up to strike her before he was between them and holding the woman's wrist. The Loremaster made an example of this female to all of his minions and servants. What happened to her was why you did not mess with or even think about hurting Yuki, or even Hyale. Though in Hyale's case, she was only protected because of Yuki. The girl was not so lucky to have such protection.
"Father....?" Yuki suddenly looked up at him, and he looked back, his eyes flashing. "....may I sing...?" She asked weakly. He smiled, nodding as he turned down another hall, leading her to her room. She opened her mouth, her eyes shut as she began to sing, her crisp, clean notes drifting into the air...
[x][x][x][x]
Hyale looked up sharply, then looked at Vespertine. She saw the longing look in her sister's eyes, and frowned. ".....you remember what father told us, correct?" She warned. Vespertine sighed sadly. Ever since Kendess was created, Hyale and her were forbidden to sing. IT was limited strictly to Yuki, her voice being between a low, and a high pitch, just right. She could have cared less; Vespertine wanted more than anything to sing to her heart's desire. But she was forbidden. Hyale knew what she could do; her father had told her and her sister. That's why she hated her. She was so innocent, so small, and so stupid, yet she could destroy the world that they held dearest to them.
Vespertine looked at her sister, her eyes sad. "But..." Hyale hissed, then took her sister's wrist, pulling her sharply from her spot, making her gasp and stumble. "You're so skinny..." She murmered, "and tiny..." She meeped, then let Hyale drag her to her room. As she entered the tall ivory-set room, she was taken to her bed where a maid promptly ran over, bowing to them both. "Miss Hyale. Miss Vespertine."
"It's her bedtime." Hyale snapped her fingers, then turned on heel, and left. Vespertine tried to protest, but the maid picked her up, and set her on the bed. She sighed, giving up, and letting her already changed dress leave her body. The maid never made eye-contact with her mistress, taking off her sandals and her socks, then setting them neatly aside so they could be washed. "Anacilla," she started ,and the maid looked up, finally looking at Vespertine's face, "...why does everyone hate me?"
Anacilla stared, then smiled and laughed, shaking her head, and going back to helping the girl from her scarf. "Nobody hates you...the people here are very picky on who they choose to respect....when you chose to love everyone as you do, dear, then you will not be as loved..."
Vespertine stared with big eyes, then looked down slowly. "So...nobody loves..me....?" Anacilla gasped, then shook her head, and pulled the nightgown over the girl. "No...no...you are loved, my dear, I promise..." The child felt tears rising , but held them back to keep her bedmaid from worrying. "Now sleep," she whispered as she tucked her into her bed, then left, leaving the room cast into darkness, minus the glimmer from thje moon, the stars, and the fresh veil of snow outside.
Compared to the others, she felt she had no destiny. Never before had she felt so..useless....her sister, the ever beautiful Hyale, with a perfect body, perfect hair, perfect skin and eyes; she was salvation to their world. Yuki was the one whom her father actually loved, with her voice beautiful as she was. Even the maids had their own place. The butlers, the chefs.
She was just an empty girl with no one to cling to anymore...
She turned over, pulling her blanket over her head, and she curled into a ball, sighing heavilly. "I love you..." She whispered to no one in particular. But she supposed she could be okay by that. One day, she knew that her father would notice her. One day, she knew her sister an the others could love her.
One day, she'd be able to sing.
[Wow O-o...that was insane. Sorry it was so random ^^;;; hehe....yeah, I'll be working on it more at...random...
