White sand, icing topped surf, and a great tan. An ideal beach. It's what you would find in another city. This is Invictus. The beach has actually been the site for a few ocean front battles, the marks from those disasters having long been washed away from the area by the lapping waves. The water is a beautiful blue, most aquatic plants being too afraid to grow there anymore, and the beach being far enough away from the industrial area to not be affected by it. Fish come and go still, believing that they can swim fast enough if trouble should arise. The sand here is courser than most, but is much more fine. It may have been white at one point, but the amount of blood spilled on the ground has altered the appearance to an unusual pink sand. It is not unpleasant to look at, yet still not classified as a top beach area. Many wonder why. There are a few beach front properties here and even more bungalows. People come here every day in order to gain a tan and play in the water. Way out from the coast, there's waves that any surfer would kill to ride in the tunnel for.
Out under the waves, about 100 yards from the coast, there are a series of underwater caves. The water here has more plants growing, allowing for a more beautiful and natural water experience. A number of clams and oysters would be found here. All kinds of other types of water life would be found as well, but not always friendly. Especially not the lobsters, the crabs, or the leviathan.
Even farther out, there are more scenes from battles, and half of the old city of Invictus lying out under the sea. A few of the people still live comfortable lives there. They don't seem to care that they can no longer see the surface. It never even occurs to them that they shouldn't be able to live under the waves, especially considering that not even half of them are under water creatures.

Wesley wasn't happy. Kalasin didn't care. She was propped up in full shine, working on a nice tan using a sun mirror. Wesley was sitting underneath an umbrella glaring out at the people. He could only see while he was in the shade. He was watching the surfers. He noted that they weren't really that good at it. He didn't surf much, but he was better than the current surfers though. He knew that much. Each and every one of those surfers looked as if they had something to prove. It detracted from their overall performance. He sighed and his image flickered for little more than half a second. All the surfers were suddenly trying to surf without boards, falling into the water, tumbling with the waves. Their boards were all lined up on the beach, stuck neatly into the sand in a row. It was fun to watch each of the surfers try to regain their board, only to find it not there. And then the wipe-outs. And their attempts to swim in a wave. Commendable, yes, but ultimately useless as it swept them away.

Raide flitted onto the beach, slowing down once she hit the sand. She'd flitted over sand before and had ended up eating the majority of the beach. She didn't feel like doing that again. Now, she popped open her umbrella, keeping herself in the shade so she could find Wesley. She hated being the one to deliver the news, but -- she smirked, chuckling at his antics and hunched over posture; he obviously didn't want to be here -- he needed to be told. He'd probably wouldn't mind the distraction. She walked through the sand to them.

"Ullo, Kal," she said before kneeling next to Wesley. "Fraid I've got some news, Wes. Vergil's been killed."

Wesley didn't have much reaction. "Not very surprising. It was not a matter of if, in my mind, but a matter of when. His mind was not suited for leadership. So the matter of the day is now to find a replacement for him." To those that knew him, they would be able to tell that he was fixing to go into his logical monologues. Not many people left alive knew him that well. Kalasin, who had been listening up until this point, now, unobtrusively, stopped listening and only appeared to be listening. "First thought lends to believe that it would be the second in command to be the new leader. Surveying that prospect, however, shows that it is not a good choice. One of Virgil's many mistakes. The second in command is too young to become a leader in a race where age is a considerable recommendation. So that rules out that choice. Next prospect that comes to mind is myself. I refuse to take it. I've been through that rigamarole before of being a leader and I did not find those prospects appealing. I'm more suited for the political role. More notably, the assassin prospect of the political role. I don't do 'leadership.' Moving along to another prospect, we behold you. No offense, but you are much like me, in my perspective, preferring to take orders than giving them. You also suffer from being youthful, but your age over the other young vampires makes you a more appealing prospect than the second. Taking our notice to our forth prospect, Rishi. She actually seems like a more logical choice, though she is another assassin, much like myself, but she seems to have more of a craving for power than either of us." He had started swirling his hand in the air vaguely. His voice had dropped into a monotone that would remind people of a dull philosophy teacher that they had trouble staying awake in his class. He did it intentionally, trying to get people's minds to relax so that they more readily agree with him, vaguely, while their eyes glaze over and nod occasionally, trying to fool him into believing that they are actually listening to him. "Next prospect is Mercury." He paused to actually consider this one. "None in their right mind would let her be the faction leader. We'd all be mad by the end of the day." He shook his head, trying to remove that evil thought from his head. "Moving along, we bring our prospect to Kalasin." At the mention of her name, Kalasin became a little more attentive. "She's not a true vampire, retaining her soul and walking in the daylight. And having a split personality makes her a very unreliable leader. She is also just as young as the current second in command." She threw an oyster at his head. It connected. He went to the ground and became disoriented at the impact, no longer able to think clearly. He could no longer think about the last prospect that he had had in his mind, not even being able to think of his name.
Kalasin was unconcerned with it. She went back to her sun bath. It had struck her hard, what he had said. Mainly because it was mostly true. She had known that she hadn't been a valid prospect for the new leadership of the vampires, but having it stated so bluntly by one who was so close to her... that just stung like a knife through her still beating heart. And she had a suspicion that he had said it on purpose.
Wesley had, and thought she deserved the verbal abuse since she had dragged him way out here to the beach where he had to steal surfboards for entertainments.

Raide paid attention as best as she could, but was easily distracted, as she was really just the messenger, and hadn't been to a proper beach for some time. She ran her fingers through the sand, drawing little designs and runes she remembered from Wilhelm's parchments.

Most of what Wes said, she agreed. Mercury would get them all killed, or forget about them entirely. Who else was there though? Wesley was honestly the smartest choice, but that was still up to the council. "Will there be punishment for the who ever killed him, if we find out who it was?"

The daze that Kalasin had sent him into started to wear off after a short bit. In time to hear Raide's query. "I do not know that," he said, shrugging his shoulders in the sand. He sat up wearily, lightly rubbing his head where the oyster had struck him. It wasn't damaged... Or if it had been, it had repaired itself already. "The consequences for the actions of the assassin will be up to the leniency of the new regent of the vampire faction. Good or bad." He regarded Raide with a scholarly air. "The new leader might choose to reward the assassin for the work he did, removing the need for he or she to do the work themselves. A few other factions might even choose to reward him themselves, decapitating our leadership and thus weakening us for a time. The future isn't sure and neither is it set in stone. We can only wait and see what will happen, shan't we?" He waved his hand, trying to indicate the unsure future, but he seemed unsure where to indicate it at.

She hadn't thought of it like that. All that she had seen was a headache personified, so Vasago being awarded for killing Vergil hadn't even crossed her mind. She nodded quietly, and gripped her umbrella a bit more tightly. "What if they get a vampire from a different coven? You know, call in someone, like when an interrogator was needed here and they told me to move."

Miami walked onto the sand and saw Raide, Wesley, and Kalasin. She grinned and tiptoed up behind Raide and hugged her from behind. "Boo!" She grinned. "Sup!" She smiled. "So, what are you talking about guys? You don't have to tell me if you don't want. I'm fine with it."
