The RP thread for all characters currently in Skogran.

Shahtek Kra sat on the rocks overlooking Skogran's jungle. One of the suns was setting, a huge red ball of liquid fire who brushed the leaves with a deep red colour. She was thinking about the next Gathering that would take place in Storm-In-Town. She actually had the age and maturity, thus the rights, to claim a man, and though bearing the child of a respected man would be an honour, it wasn't what she was interested in at this moment. No, she was far more interested in the rumours she had caught lately.

The Totemic had discovered a new species of animals.

Not just any animal. Actually, it had a well-developed intelligence. It was able to understand, or rather grasp the fact it didn't understand the Totemic language, and adapt as appropriate. It gestured and acknowledged their and our presence. And it was called Huumahn, or something. The Huumahn was pretty light coloured, really not suited for camouflage in this world, but it was creative enough to survive Skogran for a while - something Shatehk's tribe could respect.

Actually, since it was highly intelligent and aware, Shahtek's tribe would have loved to invite the Huumahn to the Gathering to get to know each other and have an honourful fight, but not all of the Totemic were pleased with that idea. Thus, Sahtehk had made up her mind to go find the Gate and see their world for herself. There were so many questions unanswered.

"We should get prepared, Shatehk."

A small blue bird revealed itself in front of her and landed on her shoulder. It was her spirit companion, a Bluebird, her most trusted friend and guide like it was the case with any other Totemic.

Shahtek nodded and stood up. Before she left, she looked once more to the setting sun, then turned around and whistled as she hopped down the rocks to return to the center of town.

Milayken allowed his bundle of spears to clatter to the ground with no regards to silence. From the top of the hill he had just descended he had been able to see the gate and his destination, less than half a days walk away. And yet he settled down here, sitting down cross-legged under a tree and pulling one of his spears out from the bundle. The past week had been one Milayken didn't want to repeat.

As he began carving patterns down the length of this particular spear he reflected on the past week. The arguments of his tribe, caused by his
recommendation to allow this new race to participate in the Gathering. That hadn't exactly worked out in his favor despite the respect he had built. Turning his attention to sharpening the tip, he changed thoughts.

His argument with his family when he announced he was heading to the gate and not the Gathering. They were right, fame was gauranteed if he went undefeated in all duels there. But yet he felt this path, with greater risk, was better. Following the traditional paths, he knew, would not have him achieve Mythan any earlier than anyone else. This race was surviving here despite it's disadvantages, that could be the edge he needed to make that leap.

"Watch yourself around them, Milayken. Your goals might become impossible if you start a war with these creatures." His guide and spirit. To this Milayken smiled. "Then I'd have to earn it through honorable combat, wouldn't I?"

Brown Bear took another meditative breath. The sky was beautiful around sunset, and she liked to meditate at sunrise and sunset, up in a nice high tree. She had much to consider today. Just today, her village of Fire from Skies had heard the news from Stone on Rivers. Another Gate had opened, but the intelligent life on the other end was not looking for a fight. This Erhth world, it seemed to have a wisdom to it, the rumors said. It had been through troubled times, and had learned and grown.

The talk today had been of sending someone from their village to go through the Gate. Apparently, tribe members from some of the other villages had already decided that they should go through the Gate. And so today, the Mythan council-members of Fire from Skies had met. And they had decided that they would call for volunteers to seek out the Gate, and knowledge of the Huumahns from Erhth. They would have to be unmarried, young, and trustworthy. BB was all of these things. She just had to decide before the morning, and be ready to go by dawn.

Her spirit companion shifted her weight, hanging from the trunk of the tree next to her.

"It would be for the greater good." BB stated. She'd said that four times now.

"It would. So go." the bear responded.

"I have no other prospects at this time." BB admitted. Her bear snorted. She hadn't gotten any proposals from the eligible males, and talk was that it was because of her loud snoring and very masculine spirit.

"So go." the spirit bear repeated. She huffed. "Even a bear has to leave the wood eventually to find better hunting grounds."

BB smiled finally. She knew that bear was referring simply to prospects for a mate, but if her personality alone could not win one, she realized it would be up to her honor as well to win her a place among her people.

"So we'll go." she responded. And with that, the last of the sun dipped below the tree line, and the sky began to darken. She climbed down the tree with bear and they ran together back to their hut, to get in some good sleep before they had to leave in the morning for Stone in Rocks.

On her path back to the centre, she saw another Totemic come down the trees. At first, she guessed it was White Monkey of her tribe, but a closer look revealed it to be Brown Bear. She stopped in her tracks.

"Brown Bear.", she said, acknowledging her presence.

She had heared rumours about Brown Bear, but other than that word didn't hold much grace or disgrace about her. Shahtek had no reason to disrespect her. Her spirit animal fluttered curiously around Brown Bear and the bear spirit as they walked down the road, then returned to Shahtek's shoulders.

In fact, her tribe had heared that Brown Bear just might set out for the new world, an expedition Shahtek would love to join. Thinking about it, she could follow Brown Bear from a safe distance - Bear was quite intimidating. Her presence was enough to keep Shahtek on a distance. No one would get too close to Bear if they valued their life, which meant Shahtek would be pretty safe herself along the road.

Whistling, Shahtek continued her path to the centre of town. She wasn't one for sleeping in huts. From childhood, she preffered to nest herself between leaves and branches and sleep under the nightsky, and this night it wouldn't be different.

"I deserve to know, Milayken," his wolf spirit had been silent for quite some time, a silence Milayken valued during his reflections. However the silence seemed to be over. Looking over his spear he sighed and placed it down with the rest of his spears and wrapped the cord back around them.

"You know my plans," Milayken stated, "they've never changed."

"How does going to those creatures realm help you achieve that? How do you know I'll even be able to follow you through it?" His spirit asked calmly. This line of questions explained its silence ever since his announcement to go to the gate.

"How does staying here help me?" Milayken countered. "I have yet to meet a single Mythan that can offer me aid and you are just as clueless on that subject. My choices are simple; follow tradition and achieve Mythan that way," he shrugged, "and when was the last time you saw a wolf Mythan? Our violence always seems to catch up with us. Or go to Totem's Fountain and see what they know. I think we both know what they would say. Finally I can take a path not yet taken, just as I did trying to find you and see where that leads me."

The brief silence from his spirit caused Milayken to glance in it's direction to make sure it was still there. "How about when we go through that gate," Milayken continued, breaking the silence, "we go through as one. You'll have no choice then." He smiled, pleased at his plan. "Unless we find others who can tell us otherwise, would that calm your nerves?" The question was stated as calmy as possible, yet it was a fear Milayken had as well that his spirit might be left behind.

"I'm supposed to be your guide," his spirit spoke again. "Every path you've taken since we met has been one where I can do nothing but follow. One day you'll go a path I cannot follow Milayken and I fear for us both on that day," his spirit caught Milaykens eye at that and he could see that fear reflected.

"You aren't following me, we're walking beside each other, like brothers," Milayken spoke with a smile. "And when we achieve my goal not much will change for we've always acted as one," Milayken leaned his head back against the tree and closed his eyes with a smile.

"And what of a mate? It's been how many years and you haven't even attempted to find one," his spirit began a familiar line of questions, confirming to Milayken that it agreed with his plans at last.

"Good night, wolf," Milayken responded, avoiding the question like usual until he fell asleep, eager to see this gate tomorrow.

Brown Bear, ever as stoic as her spirit companion, nodded at Shahtek. She noticed how the blue bird spirit seemed interested in her and bear, and she smiled slightly. She thought that, after the bird flew back to Shahtek, that she heard the girl following them shortly thereafter. That was fine. Too many people thought her rough exterior meant she was as dangerous as her spirit companion. As if she was already Mythan- which she wasn't. But her hunting knives had seen blood, and she wasn't one to back down when she didn't want to, so, she supposed her reputation wasn't all superstition.

She noticed a short while later that Shahtek and her bird spirit must be following them back to town, but quite a ways back. When Brown Bear turned to go into her cave-like hut, she paused and watched Shahtek for a moment. She knew she was not the only one considering traveling to the Gate, and she was slightly curious if that decision was what the blue bird spirit had been so emboldened by. BB might have company into the Gate. That would be fine- as long as no one got in her way. After all, Shahtek had more prospects here than BB, and so it was more important for BB to go to the Gate to earn honor. At least, that was how she saw it.

She curled up with bear spirit on the floor in the dark, cool hut, and quickly fell asleep. They would rise before dawn and soon be ready to go.

FForwarding to next day x3

A familiar bird's chirping woke her up from a far distant land. Shahtek opened an eye, seeing her spirit animal sitting on a branch, greeting the early morning with a song.

"I'm up...", she said as she moved to sit comfortably. Once fully awoken, as was her habit, she channeled the spirit's power and greeted the early morning with a similar song. A deed that pleased her spirit.

Ever since Shahtek had found the Bluebird as her spirit guide, she had felt the urge to be even more ritualistic than most Totemic. Every morning, every hunt, every mourning and every other occassion where she felt a ritual was in place, she sang or whistled a tune.
Shortly after their ritualistic greeting, as if the sun accepted their song, the first sunrays pierced the thick roof of leaves above them. Then right after, Shahtek took a moment of silence to sharpen her senses.

Nothing to hear.

In other words, the village was still asleep. Excellent. Landing gently on the floor below, she took the occassion of silence to freshen her up at the local pond. The cold water envigoured her. This would be, once again, a great day for adventures.

Milayken had passed most of the morning in silence, checking his weapons yet again to make sure none had suffered from his travels. Content that he wouldn't have to carve anymore spears for awhile, he hefted his bundle of eight spears and waved at his spirit.

"It's almost noon, Milayken and it'll take half a day to walk to the gate," his spirit scolded.

Milayken began walking without any haste. "That's perfect, then," he responded. "I'll arrive once the days activities are done and I can find out as much as possible about the gate and beyond and be well rested to go through tomorrow." Milayken was eager to get through the gate but he also knew the risks of going anywhere unprepared.

"And food, Milayken? When do you plan to eat?" His spirit continued the scolding, apparently displeased with being ignored during the evening on a topic it viewed important.

"A day without food won't kill me," Milayken sighed. "I was collapsing from days without food when I fought the wolf and found you and how many years ago was that no? Hm?" Milayken turned briefly to nod at his wolf, trying to tell it everything would be fine. "Let's just get to that gate tonight," he turned back around and added, "I'm just as nervous as you are about this whole thing."

Totally refreshed, Shahtek searched for a high spot, looking into the direction she had to journey. The Gate to the Huumahn's world was still far, to the south, where the small tribes lived today.

"Let's go", Shahtek whispered to her spirit.

Jumping of the ledge, Shahtek landed carefully on the soil outside town and started to walk to the south, through the jungle of leaves that were typical for this area.
Actually, thinking of it, Shahtek could quicken her traveling a bit. If she channeled her spirit and took on Krelan Form, she would be able to jump-glide her way from tree to tree. She couldn't keep that form up too long though, thus the distance gained wouldn't be all that much if she took into account the time it took for her to channel her spirit. Shahtek shrugged. Traveling would have to happen without Krelan Form.

There were less people at this gate than Milayken thought there would be. However that was a distant thought compared to his reactions to seeing the gate up close. From a distance it seemed large and upclose it seemed larger yet. He had indeed expected this gate to be a rumor and not even exist, yet here it stood. And there Milayken stood for what seemed all day, staring at it in wonder. When he finally found it in him to stop staring at the gate he found he had company in the form of a larger man beside him, the sweat from the days labour still apparent. For a moment Milayken wondered what his spirit was and deduced it was something larger than him and obviously more patient. "What's on the other side?" Milayken asked. He had heard numerous times, he had to be sure.

"Another world. They don't understand us over there if you plan to go through." The man replied quickly.

Then it clicked and Milayken recognized the man as one he had many mock fights with as a child and one who was almost a brother to him, bursting into smiles he clapped him on the shoulder. "I sometimes wondered if you had died, brother." Nodding, Milayken turned to find a place to prepare a meal after his trek. "If they don't understand us then I should find someone with more patience to deal with that, shouldn't I?"

Shahtek advanced through the dence jungle pretty well. Rather than to walk, she decided to climb in a tree and swing or jump from one branch to the other. Sure, it was pretty dangerous on its own as one single mistake would leave have her falling on the floor, probably leaving her with something broken - and the trees were quite high from where she was looking.
Nonetheless, she preferred it there, high above, rather than to walk this entire path. In fact, she liked it so much it nearly seemed like a game to her. And of course, her spirit enjoyed it as well. The Bluebird playfully flew around her every time she swung to another branch, and when Shahtek landed, the bird flew in front as if the urge her to continue. Ugh, Spirits. Sometimes they seemed to forget that the Totemic weren't animals like them.
