I'll edit this magical section later, basically this part is where a good summary should go... If I had one. A map or land overview would be great too... If I had one! Oh well, we're just winging it. XD

Cain was sitting with his feet on the table, his brown boots having just been polished. He was idly playing with a ball of fire in his left had and drinking a glass of wine. He was waiting, he knew someone was coming. Rumor had reached him in the barn of a new recruit to their cause. Some young kid with a lance, he couldn't remember what the kid called himself. Some kind of class he'd never heard of but, again he was a long way from home himself a stranger in the land.
Truthfully he didn't remember what the cause was anymore. Nor did he care really, as long as he was paid his dues and left to keep his own council then he was fine with whatever they were hired to do. What had attracted his attention to this particular kid was how young he was. Cain was of the opinion he was too young, far too young. "Wonder where that kid is... And what his name is?" He sipped his wine, he was terribly forgetful.

Ancelot was pacing back and forth in the local inn, and saw a man in the corner of the inn playing with a fire ball. Ancelot was wondering who this strange man was and why he was looking at him. "hello", Ancelot said nervously.

"You know, if you keep pacing around like that you're going to wear out the floor." With a flick of his wrist the fireball disappeared, he seemed to be searching the kid for something. "I know why you look familiar now, we have the same employer." He took his boots off the table and sat up. "You were a recent higher with the local Merc group." He pointed at the seat across from him. "Do sit down, all that pacing is going to wear you out."
Leaning back a little in the chair he surveyed the boy. "You got a name kid?" He looked over to the barkeep and down to his glass; it was empty. The keeper brought him another bottle and second glass for Ancelot. Clearly things like underage drinking was not a concern. "Help yourself, its not the best quality stuff I've tasted but, it will suffix I suppose."

Ancelot turned towards the stranger, and started to scratch his head in embarrassment. "You got a good point. We do? I don't remember seeing you at the guild though." Ancelot went to the chair beside the stranger to sit.
"My name is Ancelot. What is yours stranger?" Ancelot looked at the glass of wine that was handed to him before putting it down back on the table. "No thank you, I don't drink and my mother would kill me if she caught me."

"That's right!" He snapped his fingers, looking like he just remember something. "Ancelot, Haliberder. I was in the barn grooming my horse, Kadar. I heard some of the Cavs talking about how young you were and I had to see for myself. You're about the same age as my Sister back home. Their letting young and younger ones in every time." He sighed and shook his head.
"Cain Hildegarde, of House Hildegarde. Not that it means anything here. Father is head of the Council that advises the Royalty of my country. I'd never heard of a Haliberder and so I wanted to see what you were, how you fight. A good military leader learns everything he can, at least when I return home I will be." He swished the wine thoughtfully in the glass a moment. "Who was your mother?" He was growing curious about this one, though his gaze was outside the window for the moment.

Ancelot scratches his head in embarrassment. "I guess I am pretty young to work as a mercenary, but my age has nothing to do with my fighting abilities. A sister you say? I bet your very protective over her."
"Its nice to meet you Cain, let me tell you little bit about a haliberdier. Haliberdiers are like knights, in a way, but we prefer lighter armor for better mobility and we also like to fight with lances and sheilds." He looks toward the window and gives out a small sigh. "My mom saved me from the streets when she was passing through our village a couple of years ago. You see my father was killed during a bandit raid, and my real mother left me on the streets. I was small, weak, and I had nobody. Then my mom found me laying in the street. She looked at me and she asked me where my parents were at. I told her I had none... then she told me to come with her. At first I refused, but she ended up picking me up and carrying me to a local inn. She fed me, bought me new clothes, and when I tried to leave she wouldn't let me. She ended up buying a house her and raised me. She taught me everything I needed to know about fighting with a lance. Now I'm ready to stand on my own two feet, so thats why I'm here." Ancelot looks towards the window, and closes his eyes.

"Selena... Yes I was." He muttered gently as he pulled out a one inch round golden coin and turned it over a few times between his fingers. "It matters little, that was a long time ago now." He said before looking back out the window, intently. "She sounds like a wonderful mother, the other one I mean. I wont say I know how you feel, but I do in a way." He pulled out a black tome and set it down, "they were too busy in their time to be good parents. I'm not as old as I look, but I raised myself and I did what I could for Sel."
He rose, leaving the bottle of wine half finished. "I'm going to leave now I will be back though. By the time I exit out the back door, the small group of assassins will be here. When they don't find me, they will attempt to murder the people here as a sign they have found me. The black robed one is the only one you need fear. Say out of her path and you will live, the others are only her servants. They will kill you, if you don't kill them first."
Scoping up the black tome again he tucked it away and turned on heel. He paused only long enough to whisper something to the barkeep and then escaped out the back door, heading directly for the barns.
Meanwhile, the previously mentioned woman appeared in the doorway, her flint eyes scanned the room, focusing on the glass and bottle on the table. She was pale white, with silver hair, black robes, gloves and boots. The blade on her hip seemed alive somehow, filling the room with a foreboding of death feeling. A hush fell over the room, so silent the gentle patterning of the blood dripping off the blade tip could be heard. "Kill them all." She said coldly as she moved towards the table where Ancelot sat, hand on her blade.

He turned towards the woman, trying to hide the fact that he was terrified. Every step he took made him more nervous by the second. Then he looked back towards her assassins, he knew they would follow her orders and would kill everyone. One assassin caught his attention, Ancelot noticed that one of the assassins were about to attack one of the barmaids. Quickly he grabbed his lance and jumped infront of the barmaid, thrusting his lance into the assassin's chest. Now he knew they were serious, he turned back to look at the people who were stunned in fear. He yelled,"Get out of here you fools! Can't you see they're going to kill us all Run back to your homes as fast as you can and lock your doors! I will stay here and make sure that you won't be harmed." The people at the inn looked at Ancelot for a second and began to run towards the back exist. They left him all alone to fight the black robed woman and her assassins... alone.

"Lock your doors?" She turned to face him, looking like he was nothing but a curious annoyance. "Kill him, he is not here." She turned and walked out, her black horse was calmly chewing on something, traces of blood were around his muzzle. She pulled herself onto its back and wrapped a hand in his mane as it reared and neighed before leaping forward and galloping off. Only two of her assassins remained, no one had seen the others leave. From under the black robes the hooded head looked up from the handle of the lance to the human.
The eyes looking back to Ancelot were a bright crimson. There was a loud tearing sound as the robes tore and feel to the ground. The creature was about six feet tall, with dragonic wings and a tail that was roughly thirteen feet in length and ended like a curving scythe. It was clearly humanoid as it stood on two muscular legs. It had 3 toes and they were clawed with six inch talons. Much like its arms, its hide seemed leathery and it was emancipated; every bone could be seen. The head was probably the most disturbing part, it was clearly canine except it had no ears.
It's hackles pulled back to expose its fangs as it grabbed the handle of the lance and backed off it. The eyes locked onto its prey as it growled, likely it was hungry judging by the sniffing it was doing. It pushed the lance away from it with the scythe tip. It sprang forward. It never got there. "Oh yes stabbing a pile of magic is a great way to piss it off!" Cain said with a chuckle from outside on his horse as his fireball knocked it to the floor. Yelping, it scrambled onto all fours while snarling. The second one sprang at Cain's exposed backside, no one having watched it.

"How was I suppose to know he would turn into a... Watch out!" Ancelot quickly throws his lance towards the assassin behind Cain. The lance causing the assassin to fall backwards. Ancelot quickly runs towards Cain to see if he killed the assassin, to Ancelot's surprise the creature was not dead. In fact it was now furious at Ancelot for ruining its almost kill.
The assassin flipped back up and slashed at Ancelot's face. Ancelot barely dodged the attack, but the assassin's talons were long enough to leaving a large gash on Ancelot's face, near his left eye. Ancelot stumbled back holding his left eye. Blood started to trickle down his face.

Cain's amusement of the situation faded when Ancelot was injured. His displeasure actually made the creatures snarl and cringe, almost as if they could feel it. "You were sent to find me, you've found me, leave the young one." He said almost as coldly as the woman had. The creature inside the Inn growled low one more and disappeared; more accurately melted into the ground. "She'll be coming soon." He muttered looking to the one that was pissed with Ancelot. He had to admit, he was surprised at the bravery of the kid.
"Enough of this." He leaned forward and nudged Kadar forward, crouching low against his mount, racing between the creature and Ancelot. He grabbed a hold of the butt of the lance, channeling his fire magic though the lance and into the creature on the end of it. He chuckled as it burst into flames and attempted to free itself. "Oh please keep escaping." He said and jerked it closer to him, his mount trying to shy away from the burning.
Cain increased the heat of his fire for a few moments longer. Kadar finally reared and plunged. Ripping the lance out of the creature as it to melted into a black pool on the ground and then disappeared into it. "I forgot how much I like lances." Kadar turned and walked over to Ancelot, looking over at the wound. "Lucky these are not the poisonous ones." Nodding he looked around, checking to see if she was coming.
Seeing nothing he slipped off his mount to examine the wound. "Well, you are first person now in history to survive the Vashta, congratulations." He was grinning as he reached for a staff that was lashed to the saddle. "Thanks... For doing what you did." He sounded out of practice thanking people as he turned back to face Ancelot looking serious. "Pretty sure this wont hurt. I don't remember." Shrugging a little called the soft blue light to heal the gash on his face. "Now, we'd better leave before she comes back because she will. Can you ride?" He turned and remounted, looking off into the distance.

"Your welcome Cain, but I'm the one who should be thanking you. You saved my life more than once today... if you were not here I could've been..." Ancelot shakes his head for a moment. Then looks back up at Cain. "I can ride. I haven't done it much, but I can ride." Then Ancelot takes back his lance from Cain. "You have to tell me about Vashta, but it can wait I don't want to stick around long enough for her to come back." He looks over towards the barns. "I'll go check the barn real quick for a horse." Ancelot runs toward the barn to check for a horse. He opens the doors and begins to look around, until he found a horse near the back. He quickly mounts it and rides toward Cain. "So where are we going Cain?"

While Ancelot was gone horse hunting, Cain was reading the black tome after having put away the staff. He was so engrossed in the tomes depths that he took little notice of Ancelot's return for a few seconds. "Hmm... That way I think." He snapped the book shut and then looked to Ancelot's horse, carefully studying it. "Well, it will do." Clearly there was something about the horse he didn't seem pleased with."Or would it be that way? Oh well, as long as its not here who cares where we go!"
He tucked the book away and pushed Kadar into a gallop, he felt alive again and rightly was probably being a little reckless because of it. "We have the whole world to ourselves, as long as its not where she is, who cares?" He crouched over Kadar, letting the wind guide him as he raced through the town. Word must have gotten out about her arrival or everyone was already dead. Either way, he didn't want to know. He'd done what he'd set out to do. "Come on!" He called back, trying to think of were to go, places without too many people.
