This movie takes place in 1979 and there are some kids making a zombie movie over by a train station using a old super 8 camera (Hence the name). When all of a sudden a truck crashes into an oncoming train causing an incredibly destructive derailment, and unbeknownst to the kids, something escapes from one of the train cars and starts to reek havoc across their hometown.

And I'm not gonna spoil anything for you, but what I can say is that this is a really good movie. The suspence is great, the acting is appropriate and it's even got some nice humor in it. When watching it, I couldn't help but feel that even if others had no idea that Steven Speilberg worked on this, they would still look at it and think that it feels like a Speilberg movie. But there is still the mystery and twists of J.J. Abrams (not to say that they give no answers) and they both work extremely well together. The only real complaint I have is that there are a few things that are kinda left unresolved, but that doesn't ruin it for me.

Final Rating: 8.5/10

So, what do you guys think of Super 8?

*WARNING!!! POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD!!!*

Super 8 wasn't the best movie of the summer, nor was it my favorite, but it was still probably the most enjoyable film of this years summer block buster line up.

When we look at the list of movies released this summer, most of them were either sequels, prequels, or comic book movies. As much as I love my nerdy comic book films, after a while you do get a little tired of the same old stuff.

Super 8 was a nice nostalgic pairing of Goonies and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, which gave me a nice breath of fresh air amid the rest of the summer block busters.

The story was good, the acting by the child stars were great. I do have to nitpick about the alien, while I liked the overall concept for him, at times he reminded me too much of the Cloverfield Monster. I know Abrhams also directed Cloverfield, but he could have created something that in my opinion didn't resemble the Cloverfield monster so closely.

Overall, not the best movie of the summer, not my favorite film of the summer, but a nice breath of fresh air that made this film more enjoyable than others.

I thought the alien looked like a mix between the Cloverfield monster and those 4-armed lemurs from Avatar (the James Cameron movie).
