The Story
The year is 1730.
Rumors have been circulating about a mysterious area of the sea, just above Hispaniola and the islands of the Bahamas. Of course, no ordinary person would hear of them. They were whispered in taverns, brothels, jailhouses, and, of course, the ships. Yes, the ships. Tales of entire vessels, swallowed up whole by the sea. Crews never heard from again. The stories were murmured over flagons of rum and low candlelight. Different stories. Strange things no one had ever heard of before. Crews driven into madness, turning to insatiable cannibalism when there was plenty of food on board. Land masses appearing out of thin air. Compasses turning on end and sometimes breaking entirely. Domes rising out of the waters. Men turning into strange beasts. Large creatures in the air and even larger monsters in the seas. Glowing lights of unearthly colors. The disappearing ships. Even those who were not afraid of anything—those who laughed at the law and at death itself—were troubled by the snippets of accounts that leaked through scurvy-ridden teeth.
Most of them, anyway.
Some scoffed at the stories and dismissed them as silly exaggerations.
Captain Andre Bolivar of the Neptune's Doom was one of these such men. Of course, he didn't say it aloud. But ships do not disappear. They must go somewhere. And wherever they are, there is treasure.
Above all else, he desired treasure. And adventure.
His last crew, sadly, had been lost on his latest expedition to the Nile. Those that the Sphinx did not eat were lost to a terrible sandstorm on the way out. There were no survivors except Andre, his First Mate, and his beloved pet, Isis. The booty, however, was well worth it.
So, he needed a crew. And what better place to find one than at The Devil's Alehouse, his favorite tavern on the island of St. Lucitine? Through whispers and word of mouth, Andre and his First Mate had gathered a suitable number for the next great plunder.
And today was the day they would set sail.

Rules: Guidelines:
1. Follow Gaia TOS and Guild Rules 2. I would prefer as little female characters as possible, considering the rarity of female pirates. If you absolutely must have a chick character, you better have a good story to back yourself up. 3. I reserve the right to kick anyone out, add new rules, tell you to change things in posts, etc. I am God. I try not to abuse this power, but will use it if necessary. 4. This IS going to be a supernatural roleplay, so magic is allowed. I would prefer if your powers were a bit subdued, cause I don't want like...flying wizard pirates shooting spells at each other. But yes! There will be sea monsters, mythical things, curses, etc... speaking of curses... 5. We are pirates! So cursing is swell. Just keep it PG 13. 6. Romance is also fine. What pirate doesn't want a fine lassie (or lad ;D)? Again though, PG-13. 7. Your character doesn't have to talk in pirate-speak (but it is fun >w<) 8. Before you begin roleplaying, you must send me a character application and get it approved. 9. Happy pillaging!
*Important Note: This is NOT a Pirates of the Caribbean roleplay. Yes, it will be set in a very similar world, and I will be drawing a lot of my inspiration from the movies, but Captain Jack Sparrow and his buddies will, sadly, not be making any appearances.

Meet the Crew!
The Captain:
What do they call ye, matey? The Fearless and Fearsome Captain Andre Bolivar Are ye old enough to down a bottle of rum? I've been downing rum since I was a lad, but I be 26 now. Be ye pirate or wench? Pirate, obviously Captain or crew? Proud Captain of me own beauty, Neptune's Doom Are ye a Blackbeard or a Bluebeard? Black, dreadlocked by Nature herself from years at sea, but no beard. They tend to attract seafleas, and I don't fancy the buggers near my eatin' hole. And do ye have an eyepatch? Of course not. Me eyes are the same color as the treasure I'm after- gold. And what about yer booty? I'm tall and broad; some of it may be muscle, but I mostly just have a large bone structure. I 'spose this may make me intimidating. Good. I wear black or brown pants, large boots that come to my knees, and a white shirt with long sleeves. I like to show off me booty- that is, various jewels i've plundered. I have a gold ring through one ear, a gold belt buckle, multiple rings on every finger, and me latest prize, an ankh necklace. I also have a large, red-plumed captain hat I took from a rival pirate, but I don't wear it all the time. Me skin is deep brown, except for me back, which is adorned with a large golden tattoo of a snake. Me bonny cat, Isis, is nearly always on me shoulder or under me feet. She gets in the way, but I love her with all me heart. Cutlass or flintlock? From afar, I'm content to fire with cannons, but up close, I have a certain power that will poison me enemies. Be ye Jolly Roger or landlubber? I desire gold something fierce. It's in the blood--gold and the sea. I won't hesitate to kill a man for shiny new bauble (but only if he aggravates me), but I will never harm a lady. Not physically, anyway. I am strict and will not tolerate if you handle me ship improperly. That is not to say I have no mercy; everyone deserves a chance to learn from mistakes. But if you err again, it's off the plank with ye!
The First Mate:
What do they call ye, matey? The Scurvy Snake Serafin Wysocki. Are ye old enough to down a bottle of rum? Argh! I’m 24 cap’n. Be ye pirate or wench? Laddy Captain or crew? First Mate at your service. Are ye a Blackbeard or a Bluebeard? Black, though I’ll go without the beard. And do ye have an eyepatch? Arghhhhhburn And what about yer booty? Physically I stand at a stature of approximately 5’11. My wonderful, raven hair tends to hang just shy of my shoulders and is rather greasy and knotted being out on see for long periods at a time. My auburn eyes stare out just above high placed cheekbones and a slightly pointed nose. From being in the sun so often, my skin is a nice bronzed color, at least the bits that see the sun, specifically the parts that aren’t covered in dirt. I tend to wear a scarf wrapped around my head to keep the sun off my head and my hair out of my eyes. I usually wear a red shirt and simple black pants and boots. Cutlass or flintlock? I’ll stick with my cutlass if you please, matey. I’m quite skillful and graceful with a blade. I’ll use a gun if necessary though I’m much clumsier with one. Be ye Jolly Roger or landlubber? I’m a strapping pirate. One of the best. I’m skillful with a blade and sharp with my tongue. I don’t trust new crewmates. They have to earn my trust and respect. In fact, I only trust my cap’n. He hasn’t steered me wrong, too many times at least. I’m ambitious and perhaps a bit greedy, but I’m loyal to a tee to my crew whether they have my trust and respect or not. A crew is still a family, in my opinion, no matter what.
The Navigator:
What do they call ye, matey? Christopher Johnson Are ye old enough to down a bottle of rum? 25 Be ye pirate or wench? Male Captain or crew? Navigator Are ye a Blackbeard or a Bluebeard? Brown And do ye have an eyepatch? Green And what about yer booty? Brown tresses flop here and there over green eyes. One is covered in a patch, not that he needs it. A tanned piece of cloth wraps around his head like a bandanna, and if not there then it is loosely around his neck. Traditional pirate clothing cloaks his body. Tan pants, a loose shirt that is a dirty white. As for this pirate he does have a pair of tattered shoes, though they aren’t necessary all the time. A gold ring is pierced in each lobe. He has a pair of spectacles that he carries around with him along with a scope. Cutlass or flintlock? He wields two daggers and a cutlass. Though he prefers to dual wield with either his cutlass and dagger or just two daggers. As far as skills go he has a photographic memory and often complains about ‘voices’. (More to be revealed. O: ) Be ye Jolly Roger or landlubber? Christopher isn’t the most normal person. He is often off by himself scribbling on any form of parchment he can find, or in a corner muttering to himself. He has a fascination with clothing that is somewhat hard to understand. Such as…if looting anything, the clothing is what interests him, not the gold and silver. He’s always willing to listen to a person and their issues, and he’s willing to please. He’s a rather disturbed, yet happy person. He hardly knows personal boundaries unless someone crosses his own. Though there are times when he seems more normal than not, which is usually in the middle of the night when all is quiet.
The Cook:
What do they call ye, matey? Trent Hastings Are ye old enough to down a bottle of rum? Of course, I be 26 Be ye pirate or wench? Can't ye see? I be a pirate, all the way Captain or crew? I be ye ships cook Are ye a Blackbeard or a Bluebeard? Me hair is the color of a cherry, it makes me the best looking pirate on the sea! And do ye have an eyepatch? Why would I put an eyepatch over the deep blue of the sea And what about yer booty? Well, I mainly go with vests of brown, they compliment the muscles on meh arm and chest. My slacks are always tan, and well, I don't wear shoes. Shoes, me thinks, is the most pointless thing in the world. Cutlass or flintlock? I be skilled with many a blade. If enemies board I ship, I know I will make it out alive. Be ye Jolly Roger or landlubber? I prefer live out on the sea. No silly wenchs to swoon o'er me. Just me, the sea and food, ain't that the life. I be a good cook, not the brightest, but I know enough and how to cook a decent meal whilst on the the sea. I am pretty amazing, and I love to tell stories. I know many, from working on many ships and taverns. I love pickles though, oh now I want a nice pickle. I speak my mind, so I don't care to tell you if I disagree with your plans or not.
The Carpenter/Surgeon
What do they call ye, matey? Liam Dempsey, formerly Midshipman. Are ye old enough to down a bottle of rum? Aye! 21, been practicing since I started sailing. Be ye pirate or wench? Used to be a proper Navy boy, I did. Captain or crew? Just as able a seaman as any of 'em. Are ye a Blackbeard or a Bluebeard? More of a Redbeard! Really, it's a gingery-blonde color, and there's no beard involved, but I couldn't resist. I have a very full head of hair, and it's curly, too, never did sit obediently in that little queue we wore in the Navy. I cut it all off as soon as I got out. It's a bit longer now, just enough to run the fingers through. I try to be clean shaven when I shove off so it doesn't get too scraggly over the voyage. And do ye have an eyepatch? I may have gotten up to a bit of mischief in my day, but I don't wear it permanently, thank the gods. I just keep it around in case I need to be sneaking about. My eyes themselves are a light grey. And what about yer booty? I have been told by some very trustworthy sources that it is in the top three in the entire Navy. I am of average male height, very athletic, and freckled from the sun (even the booty, though I shall for once demur to explain that one). My face is friendly and my smile roguish as my character. I had to sell most of my Midshipman's uniform, though I kept the coat because I look right dashing in it. Dark breeches and a once white shirt make up my usual uniform, with many possible augmentations depending on the situation: knitted cap, boots, necktie, worn vest, and even a medal of valor from a battle early in my career. Cutlass or flintlock? Cutlass. I got plenty of practice with it and many other close quarter combat in the Navy. Pistols, on the other hand... How do you expect me to afford a flintlock on a Middie's salary? Be ye Jolly Roger or landlubber? Anywhere where there's water and wind is home to me, which is lucky, since I don't have much of a home anywhere else. When I work, I work to the bone, sun or storm. Off duty, I'm a jovial sort. Let me have my laughter, music, dance, and a little bit of drink and we'll be fast mates.
The Hostage:
What do they call ye, matey?Annabelle Dupont, daughter of Harold Dupont the Third. You may call me Annie… if I like you. Are ye old enough to down a bottle of rum? I am sixteen, and do not want any of your vile drink, thank you. Be ye pirate or wench? I am quite clearly female, and if you try anything I will cut your hand off myself. Captain or crew? You KIDNAPPED me, do you not remember? I guess a pirate like yourself would not remember anything through your booze-soaked haze… but if you think you can just dump me because my parents won’t pay ransom, you’re quite wrong! Are ye a Blackbeard or a Bluebeard? I have frizzy dark brown hair… curious, no one else in my family does. And do ye have an eyepatch? My eyes are green. And what about yer booty? I’m a bit… delicate. Soft hands and small frame, as befitting a lady. My skin is the color of hot chocolate, a fact Mama makes me hide with make-up. Oh bother, you don’t have any of that on this ship, do you? Cutlass or flintlock? I can play the lute, and am a fair hand in the kitchen… fighting? I’d prefer to avoid the mess… but a kitchen knife in the ribs works nicely, don’t you think? Perhaps I could learn to sword fight. Be ye Jolly Roger or landlubber? Don’t let my attitude fool you. Just because I’m rich doesn’t mean I’m stupid… if my fool of a family won’t ransom me, I’ll find my own fortune! Even you smelly pirates are more honorable than my father…
The Stowaway:
What do they call ye, matey? My name is Millicent Hearse but I just go by Millie for ease sake. Are ye old enough to down a bottle of rum? I’m 21 but I have to think… Does age have a direct correspondent with ability to actually stomach a full bottle of rum? Be ye pirate or wench? I’m no pirate… but what the hell is a wench exactly? Captain or crew? Neither, like they’d hire women for these expeditions. I’m just using the ship for now. Are ye a Blackbeard or a Bluebeard? Excuse me? Do I look like I’d have facial hair? The only “beard” I have is the long dark colored hair on my head And do ye have an eyepatch? No, I have both my oddly colored eyes. I say oddly because the left one is green and the right one is blue. And what about yer booty? Watch where your eyes are sailing or I’ll cut you. I’m kind of tall for a girl I suppose, but I still like to dress like one… some may call if whorish, but I wear shorter skirts only because it makes it easier to run. Cutlass or flintlock? I am quite poor with both but I am not completely useless. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been able to teleport into any coffin… Even though I like to think I could get through anything… I have to resort to seeking deliverance from death by jumping into its “bed.” Be ye Jolly Roger or landlubber? I don’t prefer either but I will go anywhere it takes to survive. Using my wit and ability I hope I can keep it up.

The sun was just cresting over the horizon, bleeding warm currant colors into the dawn.
“Ay, this don't bode well, mateys.” Captain Andre Bolivar leaned over the railing of the sterncastle. His three new crew men stood below him, along with his old friend and first mate, Serafin. But the captain was not looking at them; he cast his golden eyes towards the skyline.
“Red sky at night, sailor's delight. Red skies at morn, sailors be warned!” He recited, as if none of them knew this age-old rhyme. “Nay, this ain't a fitten day for shovin' off, but we must be goin!”
All five men, one lady, and one cat, to be exact, were aboard the Neptune's Doom. It was a fine ship. On the small side, yes, but fine. Jet colored wood composed the entire vessel, and lush, jungle-green sails adorned the masts, but that was where the extravagance ended. Andre had no need for a large crew and lavish trappings. Made things more cumbersome, harder to escape. No, the five of them would do. Even the scrawny brat in the brig would help out if need be.
At the thought of the kid, Andre's deep nutmeg lips pulled into a smile. Now, there was a surprise for the crew. Test their mettle. See if they were worthy of sailing on his ship. If they couldn't handle holding a measley little nit like her hostage, well, there was no hope for them, and they'd be off The Doom in a moment. Likewise, it would be a marvelous surprise for the girl. When he and Serafin had taken her from the edge of the market, he was sure to have dusted some coma-crumb in her face. She wouldn't be waking up for another hour or so. And by then, they'd be far, far from shore.
The captain knew who she was, of course; he wasn't stupid. The Dupont girl. Her father was a rich b*****d who made money from selling what was not his—other men's lives. If they had any luck, well, they'd be traded a handsome ransom. If not, well, they could just leave her at a port in some far away land. If she was nice.
He turned his attention back to his crew. Serafin, his trusted first mate stood with the others. Dark haired and snake-like, Andre admired his abilities to take control when he himself was unable to. Ambitious, yes. Fearless, yes. Like himself. The two were alike in many ways, yet different enough to work well together. They alone had made it out of Nefertiti's Tomb alive, and, of course, dripping in treasure. Most of which (that they didn't trade on the black market) was still stored belowdeck, next to the brig. His biggest prize, which he had no intention of ever selling, was a beautiful sarcophagus completely decked in jewels and gold, which he kept in his private room in the Captain's Quarters. There was probably some sort of mummy or something inside, but Andre didn't know or care about the bits that weren't embellished with gems.
Then, he studied the newcomers. One with ridiculously bright red hair, as bright as the sky behind them, another ginger with hair that was considerably less ostentatious, the other with an understated brown. He knew none of their names.
The bright red head wore no shoes, and was apparently, the new cook.
Ginger was garbed in simple sailing clothes that reeked vaguely of military.
The dark haired man sported an eyepatch, and looked...well, a bit off. He was the new navigator.
All very curious new characters.
All, hopefully, capable men.
“Arr, mateys. Ye shall address me as 'The Fearsome and Fearless Captain Andre Bolivar,' or, 'Captain Andre,' or, simply, 'Captain.'” He called them to attention. “Now, I need to know who ye arrr. Start with yer name, profession, and yer capabilities.”
The lump on his left shoulder shifted, and draped itself around his neck like an inky, purring stole.
“Calm down now, me lassie. We'll be settin sail in no time...” He whispered to the cat, stroking her spine with a weathered brown hand.
“You!” He spoke abruptly, gesturing to the redhead. “You first.” Peering down over the railing, his black matted dreadlocks and his golden ankh swung in front of him. His jewel-encrusted fingers gripped the ebony wood as he examined the cook, mildly interested in what the bizarre boy had to say.
OOC: I realize I did QUITE A BIT of god-modding and power playing and stuff, especially with Serafin and Annabelle, (I did it to everyone though, they were just the worst affected)...BUT. It's the first post, and I needed to get everyone where they need to be. It will not happen again, and if anything EXTREMELY BOTHERS YOU, just post in the OOC and we'll come up with some sort of edit -w- thanks!

After the Captain spoke, Trent felt like all of the crew's eyes be on him. He didn't like people staring at him. He got on the ship to get away from all of those filthy wenchs staring at him all the time. He knew they looked his way to give attention, but he has grown to hate staring eyes on him all the time. This made his grin run and jump off the plank. He guessed he better hurry up and answer before he and the captain started off on the wrong foot.
"I am Trent Hastings. I be the Doom's new cook. I am skillful with a blade, and so far I have never missed me targeted area. I best not catch anyone staring at me neither, otherwise ye might just lose an eye. I don't like talking about the past either. It be pointless. So I guess, I be a cook who be deadly with a blade. That all ye need?"
He was done. Trent now only hoped that everyone's eyes divert from him. He prolly shouldn't have mentioned his past or that he hates staring, but he did and he can't change that.
Sorry it isn't that great of a post. I'm still on vacation and my battery was a bout to go. I'm coming up with a backstory for trent so thats why he hates talking about the past. give me some time to get it together.

Oh, giving commands already, was he?
Andre's lips twitched into a bizarre mixture between a grin and a grimace. A grinace.
He laughed out loud, filling the air around the ship. As abruptly as the the guffaws started though, they ceased, and now there was no trace of a smile on his face at all.
Hoisting himself up onto the railing, the Captain swung his legs over and down, then let go.
THUD.
He landed on the deck below with poise to rival Isis's.
Oops. Isis. He was so used to having her there that he hadn't given a second thought to pitching himself from the sterncastle.
The cat gave an annoyed squawk similar to a parrot's, and launched herself off her master's shoulder before he hit the deck, landing quite gracefully on a pile of ropes nearby.
Sorry, girl. He would apologize later, hoping she wouldn't be too angry with him.
But now it was time for the matter at hand.
The insolent new cook, mere inches from his face. The captain's golden eyes drilled into the lad's royal blues. Staring him down. Not blinking.
“Now, look here laddie.” His voice was a dangerous growl. “I am the Captain on this here ship. I give the orders here. Not. Ye.” Andre's stare was set in stone. His eyelids did not move. “If I want to look at ye. I will look at ye. Ye will not prohibit me from doing anything on me own ship, nor will ye issue orders to other members of me crew, especially me First Mate.”
His eyes lingered on the redhead for a few more moments, until, finally, he blinked and took a few steps back.
“I'll respect yer wishes, but not until ye earn me respect. Is that clear?”
Expecting an answer, the Captain directed his focus to the new Navigator.
“Now. You.” His tone was still low, but not quite so threatening. Hopefully, he had made his point that insubordination would not be tolerated on his ship.
OOC: Kex, I'm sorry if Andre was mean D: I know you were gonna edit it when you got back from vacation, so if you change anything and need me to edit this, lemme know XP

Worn hands rubbed nervously against one another as the navigator listened carefully to his new captain. He seemed very intimidating, though how he treated the scrawny feline on his shoulder gave way to a smidge of a more sensitive side. Likes critters. Christopher thought to himself his lips moving ever so slightly with his thought with no audio.
Hands continued to rub each other more rapidly when the obnoxiously red-haired man spoke. Christopher shook his head to himself. No, not good. No, no, no.
There was a flinch as boots collided with the wood of the deck. Chris swore to himself he felt the whole ship rock when the Captain swooped down from his perch and landed before the new members. Then the man spoke again. The brunette felt his head nodding up and down as Captain Andre ‘put the other in his place’.
Immediate attention was given (to the best of his ability) when Captain Andre altered his focus. Him. It was his turn now. YES!
Christopher licked his lips quickly released his hands from each other rapidly and began. “Well!” hands clasped back together and his eyes shifted, “I…I am Christopher Johnson.” He nodded in approval at giving his name while his hands released again. “I am…what you call a…a…” his right wrist wound in a circle right next to his head. In about two seconds he snapped and his face lit up, “Navi-gator!”
He paused, expression frozen with excitement. Chris pulled back and scratched his head sheepishly. “I’m the best around, and I’ll tell ye something,” his hands rubbed together and he leaned in closer to no one in particular. A wild grin spread on his face like a child who had a really juicy secret to tell.
“I here the things that whisper in me ear. They speak even now. Hear!” Christopher exclaimed with his hand in the air, but just as soon as he had jolted his body was withdrawn and his hands clasped. “No…not a word,” he whispered to himself. His head shook once in disappointment.
Another pause, though this one was shorter. Without warning he removed his spectacles with one hand while the other flipped up the eye patch. Once both eyes were visible he panted his spectacles on his nose and smiled like a sane man. “Nice to be aboard Captain!”
The man rocked back and forth on his heels and gave a nod to the captain to show he was indeed done introducing himself. His…peculiar self.

Arms crossed, Auburn eyes stared blankly at the new crew members. Not trustworthy. No respect. There was nothing redeemable about this first lad so far. He seemed… full of himself. Barking out orders. “I’ll look where I please,” the first mate hissed under his breath, “And I’d like to see the matey who thinks he can best me in a duel.” As he spoke there was a soft angry growl.
That cook had a lot to go before he gained his respect. That was for certain.
Serafin shifted slightly on his feet as the boat rocked with the landing of their captain.
As Andre reprimanded the fire headed bloke, his mouth gave a slight twitch at the corner. It was almost a smile. A smile sealed with a glare from the eyes. No. Nor would he dream of following orders from the cook. He could remain below for all he cared, and if one hint of poison slipped into Serafin’s food, well, there’d be a blood duel.
Now it was for their new navigator’s introduction. What little enjoyment he had received from the cook’s reprimand, completely faded.
This man was mad. He was completely out of his mind. Voices? What was this madness?
Slowly, unsurely, Serafin stepped toward their captain. “Sir,” he whispered once more in a bit of a hiss, “Sir, are you – certain about this man? He seems a little… offputting.”
No, he was not questioning his captain’s judgment. Serafin just wanted to make sure that Andre understood he hired an insane person. Of course, after the last trip, may be just what they need.
On that thought he added, “Not that, that might be entirely a bad thing.”

Staring down the peculiar Navigator, Andre took a moment to register his opinion of the fellow. After a minute or so-
“Well, as long as the voices tell ye where we need to be sailin', they're welcome on me ship as well.”
The man was most likely insane, yes; Andre took in Serafin's words as solemnly as though he would words from a brother. But, he had seen more than one man off his rocker who was still capable of doing his job. As long as he kept up with his share of the work, the captain and the Navigator would get along just fine.
Which left...
The only normal looking man out of the three. Andre seemed to remember something about the Navy? Which made him a bit wary. However, the aura the man was giving off stank of seasalt and hard labor. A kindred spirit. But, he'd let the ex-navyman speak for himself.
“And how bout ye?”
