Known for their black and white stripes, zebras belong to the Equids family, or horse family. There are only three species of zebras: the plains zebra, the Grévy's zebra and the mountain zebra.
Grévy's zebras are the largest, most weighing in from 770 lbs to 990 lbs. They are listed as Endangered on the Endangered species list.
Plains Zebra's are the smallest of the zebra's. They weigh about 484-708 lbs. Found in most game reserves, this species has the largest range. Plains zebra's are Least Concern, or LC, on the list.
Listed as Vulnerable on the list, mountain zebras are the middle ground of the zebra species, weighing at about 530 to 820 lbs. Not much is known about them compared to their plains and Grévy's cousins.
