Races

User ImageUser ImageHumans:
General Info: Humans came into being long after the elves and the nymphs. They were born in a land which would, just when they had assembled themselves and before they had the chance to achieve any true grandeur, be plunged into war. Thus, humans have always been rather a warlike people, with less time for song and the arts and the glories of the world. However, this has made them good at this art, if it may be called that. The human race is a young race, with a comparatively short life span. They usually die between ages 70 and 80. They are, however, the most adaptable race. They tend to be average to tall in height, and have solid builds. Humans are viewed as arrogant by most of the other races, as they seem to think the world revolves around them and their king. They are also corrupted more easily than the other good races.

Unique Traits: Humans can possess great wisdom, strength, or many other talents. Human mages tend to be less powerful than Elvish mages, but can hold their own. They have limited healing powers and can use small amounts of all the elements, though they never truly master any elemental power. Human rangers and warriors are swift and strong. Swordsmen fight with one- or two-handed swords, and many carry shields, as well. Other weapons commonly used by humans include axes, knives, and spears. However, human archers are lacking in talent. Humans are fair smiths, and are best of all races at making arms. They also specialize in defensive architecture; their foretresses are matched by none. The great stone structures are designed to both attack and defend, with many secret passages, and have vast storage areas to withstand long seiges, if necessary.

User ImageUser ImageElves:
General Info: The Elves are the oldest creatures to walk the earth. They are not affected by sickness or by time, and thus may live until the world itself fades if they are not struck down by the blade. There is only one other way an elf may die. As the world becomes more evil, the darkness casts a shadow on their hearts. Some find this difficult to shake, and become as shades, losing all color, all memory, and all emotions except those of sadness and despair, until they kill themselves to end their torment. Elves love all things beautiful; the stars, the trees, and the sea go above all. They are deeply connected to their natural environment, since they are destined to remain there forever, and their architecture always compliments and accentuates it. They are also exceptional artists, including painting, drawing, and metalwork. Elves are slightly feared but generally respected by other races, though they mostly choose to keep to themselves. They enjoy beautiful songs of days of old, and are excellent musicans and singers, as such. They aim to preserve the world they were born in, so much as they can.

Unique Traits: The elves are very wise, and have some of the sharpest minds of all creatures. They do not possess immense strength, but are swift. Most fight best with bows, knives, one-handed swords, or (more rarely) spears. Few use heavier weapons, for this takes away their agility, one of their greatest strengths. They can usually move unseen and unheard, if they wish, blending into the trees. Elves are also a very magical race; most who study magic specialize in a single element, but some dabble in two, if they have mastered a first. Elvish mages specialize in the healing of all sorts of wounds and maladies, both for the main races and for the world itself. Above all, elves have one great strength and weakness: their emotions. These influence them greatly, and as the light in their hearts waxes and wanes, so too does their strength. Their elements usually follow from their personalities, as do all their specific talents. Emotions are the wellspring of all their power, mental, physical, and magical, and thus they try to remain restrained as much as possible. Those who play off their emotions too much risk putting themselves in danger, although it can also do much to increase their abilities at times.

User ImageUser ImageNymphs:
General Info: Nymphs were born of the elements themselves. When the elves were at the height of their power, when they always used to push themselves emotionally to achieve greatness, they managed to tease life from the elements themselves. Nymphs would live to between 500 and 1000 years, and then they would fade back into their elements, only to be reborn again in a few centuries, and this is but a short time. These new creatures were bound to the substances from whence they came, as they still are; the longer they are apart from their element, the weaker they become. Eventually, lack of access to their element can kill them. Luckily, all nymphs can create their elements and wield them as weapons, if they are not restrained by some spell. Nymphs are smaller, more fragile creatures than the other races; they are thin, quick, and agile, but most only grow to between four and five feet tall. They are also not very strong. This weakness is compensated for with a powerful grasp of elemental magic, which they can use to many ends. Their music is said to be haunting, reflecting their own backgrounds and elements, but few outside their own kind ever hear it. The different elements have been known to go to war in the past over cultural differences, but most have put that behind them by this day, though some animosity remains.

Unique Traits: Nymphs are born of one of seven elements: light, darkness, fire, water, earth, electricity, or air. Whichever they own, it is their lifeforce, and they draw off it. When they are in their element, they become more powerful, and when they are not, they grow weaker. Their elements can be used for camouflage, attack, or defense, but generally not healing (with the exception of earth, which can quickly grow helpful herbs). Nymphs are also known for their ability to trick people; they can be quite devious at times. A few nymphs have been known to carry a knife as a weapon, but most rely solely on their powers.

User ImageUser ImageDemons:
General Info: Demons were not a natural race. The other races were taken and beaten into foul creatures which with the dark ones could form an army. Their minds were turned against their forefathers and their people, and they became willing, even enthusiastic, slaves of the enemy, pawns in their game. There are three types, which spurred from the three different races. The humans became blood mages, turned to necromancy by their desire for power. The elves became telepaths, their minds and emotions so enhanced that they could sway others to their will. And the nymphs, who were so bound to nature, were bound to the spirits of sacrificed animals, so that they took on some of their characteristics, while their elemental powers were stripped from them in the binding process.

Unique Traits: The blood demons can take control of the dead and mortally wounded, using them as puppets. Also, they may increase bloodflow in open wounds to finish off their victims; hence, many will carry knives in order to wound and finish with their powers. It takes large amounts of energy to use their powers, however, and thus blood demons will tire rapidly if they try to affect more than one person at once. Telepathic demons can influence the thoughts and emotions of their targets, though the latter is far stronger than the former. This makes them formidable enemies... if they are within twenty feet of you. If not, they cannot mentally attack you. Due to this restriction and their background, many telepathic demons will use bows or poisons to slow down their enemies, then they will come near and take over their mind. The more experienced telepathic demons can drive their victims utterly mad, given enough time. The spirit demons are not generally as powerful as the other two, but that really depends on the skills of the animal they are bound to. Also, the more advanced spirit demons may transform themselves utterly into their animal forms. Though spirit demons have lost their elemental powers, they did gain the ability to fade into mist or clouds.

Languages
Places: Latin
English (humans): English
Elvish: French
Elemist (nymphs): Spanish
Demoni: Italian

English is the Common Tongue, spoken among peoples of different races. Amongst themselves, the older beings often use the native tongue, and it is always used in the court and in official proceedings; however, in this time of war, many of the younger beings use the Common Tongue for everyday speech, though all know their native tongue. In battle, when the races must cooperate, it is important that the Common Tongue is used of information must be relayed to people of multiple races.

For posting purposes, we will all write in english; however, please write in the post if your character is speaking in the common or native tongue. Ex: "I think we're being follwed. Don't look, but he's off to our right, about ten feet behind," he muttered in his native tongue, not wanting to be overheard. This does not apply to humans, of course.

The Houses of Elves
User Image

Sidera: This is the eldest race in the world. They are the firstborn of the elves, and are the children of stars. When the world was still young, several stars fell from the heavens, but before they hit the earth, they burst into silver sparks. These were caught by the winds and whipped about into the form of the first intelligent creatures. Thus, the Sidera were born, and the light of the stars lives on in their eyes.

Aequora: The secondborn of the elves, the Aequora are the children of the sea. Ten years after the Sidera came into being, at sunset, the waters turned blood red with the light of the sun, which rode low on the horizon. Then the surf slowly swept a new race of elves onto the sand, the water clinging to their lashes. When the sun had nearly set, they opened their eyes on the red-tinged waves. Their true love has always been the sea, and its song has never left their ears.

Silvis: This is the third and final race of elves, which entered the world ten years after the Aequora. On a day of bright sunlight, when the gold and green colors reflected off the leaves, a single great tree with leaves of shining gold was shaken by the breeze. Several of its leaves fell to the ground, and where they touched the earth, the Silvis grew from the earth itself, as trees with roots, but at an extremely accelerated pace. When they were fully grown, after three days' time, their bonds to the forest were broken, and they stepped into the world to breathe the air for the first time. The scent of the golden-leaved tree, and its glittering flowers, always lingers about them, calling them home.

The Kindoms of Men

User ImageVitam: Vitam is the oldest of the Kingdoms of Men. Founded by King Evaso, Vitam started as a small village, which rapidly grew into a bustling center of trade and, more recently, religion. Ever since the Long War, the city has been the religious capital of men, since it is safe, affluent, and central. Vitam is currently the strongest kingdom of men, and the most easily defended. It has a grand army which is always kept vigilant and sharp, waiting for the next attack from the north. Vitam stands as a beacon to the human race. There, art and music grow and flourish. Though the city is a monarchy, its people are happy under a skilled line of kings.

User ImageMortem: Mortem is a den of thieves and murderers. There is no official king in Mortem, and thus it isn't even a kingdom, strictly speaking. Mortem is run by several gangs, the most powerful being the Muerto. The Muerto control all the pine forests in the north, and have tried to expand their influence over the other gangs in the past, though they've never been successful for more than a few months. The main industry in Mortem is death--hit men--alongside the black market. They also specialize in paralytic and/or deadly poisons, and illegal drugs.

User ImageSolis: Solis is men's kingdom of light. Its cities are crafted out of marble, and when the sun shines on them, they seem to glow. Once, the kingdom was the greatest of them all, a gem, in the early days of men. It is located around the lake from whence men came into the world, and thus was the religious center of all four kingdoms. But when the enemy took Vitam and refugees began to pour into the city, everything went downhill. Poverty continues to plague the commoners of Solis, even to this day. During the war, the relgious leaders were corrupted, and the democratic government fell into an oligarchy. Even now that the Long War is over, the wealthy continue to have a strong influence on the government, and are effectively in control of the kingdom. With corruption running rampant, the city is beginning to spin out of control, although there are those who would see it reformed and restored to its former glory before it sinks to the level of Mortem.

User ImageVirtus: Virtus is the lukewarm kingdom. It isn't large, it isn't small; it isn't rich, it isn't poor. All of Virtus' problems are average, maybe a theif here and there, the occasional murder, maybe a burning building. Compared to Mortem, Virtus is a safe haven. Compared to Vitam, Virtus is a dump. Though the people of Virtus live an isolated life from the other kingdoms, outsiders are not shunned there. They are mainly farmers, and though it is not a great kingdom, most of its people are well enough off to take care of themselves. Few of their people are trained to fight, as they are so far from the enemy, though many are skilled horsemen, as they use the beasts for quick transportation across the plains and for labor in the fields. Virtus is also a monarchy, though the king does not live in exceptional grandeur, and is, instead, kind and compassionate towards his people.

THE SINS: The Commanders of Demons

It should be noted that these commanders, while they are simply demons themselves, are all given extra power by Pravus.

Greed: An excessive desire to acquire or possess more than what one needs or deserves, especially with respect to material wealth.
AvaritiaUser Image
Avaritia is commander of the blood mages. She is the embodiment of the evil of men, the fatal flaw of that mortal race. She tempts the hearts of mortals to seek more than they already have; to seek what they cannot have; to kill, lie, steal, and cheat; all in the frivolous pursuit of wealth and power. She is an immortal, but can be slain. This would be no easy feat, howerver, as she is an extremely powerful blood mage. It is said that her blood runs gold when spilt upon the ground. Once a month, she feasts upon the blood of others to perpetuate her life eternally. If she is unable to do this, she does grow weaker, though it would take six months of deprivation to finally drain her of her immortality. Then, she would begin to age like any other mortal, until she died of old age, although her life would certainly be longer than that of a normal blood mage, and if she began the rituals once more, she could freeze her age once more. When she uses her powers to create the feeling of greed, her eyes glow gold.

Corruption: The action of making someone or something morally depraved or the state of being so. Decay; putrefaction
Caries
User Image
Caries is the commander of the telepathic demons. He is the embodiment of a loss of morals, decay, and treachery. He possesses the ability to corrupt the minds of all creatures, turning them against whomever he wishes. He has made brothers stab each other in the back in the dead of night. He creates strife where there has been no cause for animosity, just for his own amusement. To corrupt society itself, he inflicts the cancer of loose of morals upon towns and cities. Lovers betray lovers, family ties are weakened, the rule of law is abandoned, politicians take bribes and work for their own ends, and life falls apart. When he uses his powers, Caries' eyes glow deep purple. He may drive people to utter insanity if he gets far enough into their minds. Caries enjoys to wander in Mortem, as he doesn't have to use his powers much there, and can cause great chaos when he does. He thrives on evil itself, and is the most powerful of the three commanders. As a telepathic demon, he is an immortal.

Fury: Wild or violent anger. A surge of violent anger or other feeling.
FurorUser Image
Furor is the commander of the spirit demonds. She embodies the animalistic rage of those nymphs who were bound to the spirits of beasts. She warps the emotions of mortals and immortals alike, driving them to rabidity or hysteria. She takes joy in anger, and likes to watch creatures destroy each other. Only the elves and light nymphs have been known to overcome her power, but that is seldom done. Furor is the greatest warrior on the battlefield. The fury she instills in creatures' hearts may create great strength as well as great recklessness. It is, however, difficult to direct the target of this fury, especially if it is intended to make one turn on an ally or close friend. Furor may also take the form of any animal she chooses for up to a month at a time. Furor lives alongside Avaritia, and is often her partner in battle. To perpetuate her life force, she kills an animal once each year, on the winter solstice, and absorbs its spirit into herself.

The Puppet Master: Tentatio Pravus

Tentatio is the most evil creature to walk this earth. She was born when elves were the only creatures alive, at the height of their power. Her mother, whose name has been lost to history, did not want the child, she felt from the start was not quite...natural. The child was born on a night of no moon and no stars, a bad omen, certainly, for the people of the stars. She abandoned the girl on a small island to the northeast of her home island, that of the Sidera, her people.
On the island, Tentatio rapidly faded into darkness, and by all likelihood, she should have become the first shade, though darkness and sorrow had not touched the people of the world yet. However, rather than rejecting the darkness that crept upon her, she embraced it, and became as one with it. The darkness festered in her heart, and her eyes became dark and terrible. She named herself then: Tentatio Pravus.
As the years passed, her presence began to frighten away the animals of the island. Robbed of their company, she built herself a crude raft and sailed to her home island. Walking among elves, she quickly picked up their language and customs, being one of them by birth. She wandered the island, not speaking to anyone, simply searching for the one she knew she must find.
Though she had only seen it for a short time as a small child, Tentatio knew her mother's face, and found her in the capital. There, she murdered her own mother. No one ever knew how it happened, but evil had certainly entered the hearts of the elvish people. Tentatio was never suspected of the crime, of course, and entered into Sidera society, saying she was simply one of their people who had gone away long ago to study the stars. Though her dark eyes, swirling with shadows, gave them slight pause, the Sidera accepted her, and taught her much. Tentatio became a great student of the elements, rapidly conquering both shadow and air; as well as a master of the bow and the sword. In addition, she was a master of her mind, from her long isolation and many years spent pondering nothing and everything, and her use of her emotions in her endeavours made her more powerful still. Many were impressed by her, but she never grew attached to any of them... except one. There was a young male, by name of Cordis, another who excelled at using all parts of his mind mind, but also a master of fire. The intensity of his emotions turned her attention to him, and she convinced him to come away to the north with her, where they could study in private. They took a few of the elves from each race with them, and built a great foretress there, at the roots of the mountains, where they could be close to the heavens and breathe the clean, cool air of the night.
In their great foretress in the forest, she delved deeply into the secrets of the mind, and learned to delve into his. They were close before, but using this new power she seduced him, and they became lovers. She gave birth to a son, and named him Caries. This child became the subject of her experiments with the mind, and she made him into the first telepathic demon. When Cordis discovered what she had done, the way she had affected his mind, he attempted to flee, to tell the others what she had done; but she slew him in her halls. The rest of the elves, she made into telepathic demons alongside Caries; and they began to train them as an army.
When many years had gone by, and the demons were growing strong, Tentatio left her son there to oversee their training and traveled back to the world of elves. There, she found they had created the nymphs in her absence. These new creatures intrigued her, and she became closest to the Tenebrae, for they were born of her main element. As with her first lover, she seduced a nymph of exceptional quality, this one called Umbra, and took him to the north along with one nymph from each of the other elements. Their daughter was named Furor. On the very night of her birth, Tentatio gave the girl of knife, and placed caged hawk before her, flapping futilely in an attempt to escape. By contorting her mind, she made the girl kill the bird, its blood spilling over her. From the evil of this act, Tentatio drew the spirit of the hawk from the air and bound it to her daughter. Once again, her lover tried to flee, but Umbra, too, was cut down. The other nymphs were bound to animals, like Furor, and their animalistic side was cultivated to be used in the art of war.
Then her plans were nearly complete, but Tentatio still felt that there was something missing from her army, a force she needed to create to complete them, to make them strong enough to take the world. For that had always been her goal, in the back of her mind, growing there from a small spark into a roaring inferno which consumed her. And now, as she continued to grow her armies over the centuries, men appeared in the east. Mortals with short, fleeting lives, they were always flawed, and easy to convert to dark ways. Their hearts were weak, and they were easily corrupted. The race of men grew, and four kingdoms arose, but they were always threatened by raiding demons and bandits who were turned to evil practices by the influence of Tentatio's mind. Thus, men became a warlike people, always thinking of defense and fighting above all other things.
When they were still headed towards their peak, not yet reaching a golden age, Tentatio began to walk among them. In men, with all their flaws, she saw a way to create something beautiful and terrible. She always felt that the spirit demons were lacking in power, not as perfect as the telepaths were. Thus, with men, she wanted to create a race that would play on all their flaws, embracing them, just as she had embraced evil and darkness at her own birth.
Tentatio passed easily through Mortem, for the men there were already so evil that it took little coaxing to turn them to her side. Still, she found no one that offered enough in the way of resistance to her charms; rather, being what she was, they felt drawn to her already. No, she needed someone she could play with, could turn slowly. She needed a challenge. Heading south, bypassing the island kingdom, Tentatio came only to the borders of Solis before learning that it was a religious, democratic center for men. Seeing these things as foolish and weak, she turned away from them in disgust and passed around the kingdom to the east, sailing along the coast until she came to Virtus. There, she found only a rabble of farmers; they were weak and had few skills, not people to be turned into warriors of evil. Beginning to doubt whether men had any worth to her at all, Tentatio came, finally, to the island kingdom of Vitam.
Though it did not match the grandeur of Solis in those days, she found that she rather liked the city built around a great foretress that made up the capital. When she presented herself to the king, Sanguis, she discovered, at last, the heart she was searching for.
Sanguis was a powerful mage, the most powerful of all men. He had a fine grasp of the elements, to the extent that humans may understand them. Furthermore, his mind was strong and sharp, ready to be tested. After many months, Tentatio was able to seduce the young man. As his lover, she became queen of Vitam, and bent it to her will, letting it quietly fall into complacency, though no one would know it. When she firmly in control, Tentatio took Sanguis away to the north on a one-year holiday, leaving Caries in control of the city. The people did not question her choice of a replacement, as they had grown to love their beautiful and charming queen, with her dark, swirling eyes.
In the north, Tentatio and Sanguis had a daughter, who they named Avaritia. They soon took the girl back to the city, and Caries went back north to live with his sister. Avaritia was raised to feed on the flaws, the moral lapses, the greed, the lust for power that festered in the hearts of men. Her father taught her to be a great mage. Using the elvish part of her mind and her own desire for power, Avaritia soon surpassed Sanguis, and began to dabble in the use of blood as a power. Thus, with little guidance in that direction, with only the flaws of men running through her veins, Avaritia became the first blood mage, the final race Tentatio needed to wage her war.
While her mother kept the people of Vitam in a happy stupor, Avaritia, as a young woman, converted the leaders of the gangs of Mortem into blood mages as well, rallying them to Tentatio, and stopping their greed from overcoming them, so they would not cause trouble when the invasion began. While Avaritia was away to the north, Sanguis began to break through the fog of lust which had consumed him since Tentatio had taken control of his mind, and she was forced to kill him. She called her daughted back to the city, and she came swiftly. Then Avaritia used her father's body like a puppet, animating his body, so it did not seem to the people that he had died at all. As daughter of the king, it was not odd for her to be around the court much of the time; and thus Avaritia took control of the kingdom of Vitam.
Tentatio, meanwhile, went south and corrupted the mind of the king of Virtus with little difficulty; and she had Furor come south to control those men. Finally, there was only one free kingdom of men: Solis, the land she hated. Knowning she had to control men if she was to defeat the other free peoples, Tentatio reluctantly entered the bright city by the lake, and came before the king. After a mental battle of many weeks, slow coaxing and cultivation of all that was evil in his mind, she overthrew the mind of the president of Solis, and the democracy was plagued by corruption. Finally, it collapsed into chaos, and a shaky oligarchy rose from its dust.
Her long battle with the king of Solis had left Tentatio weak and exhausted, and she fled northward, to her foretress in the mountains. There, she slowly regathered her strength, over the course of a year; but in her time of weakness, the Virtues appeared in the world, to bring knowledge, innocence, and hope back into the hearts of the free peoples, and to prepare them so they might rise up and defeat the evil which now threatened them. The Virtues began to move among the oppressed peoples, the goodness stirring within their hearts once more, a ray of light through the dark clouds which hung heavy on their hearts. One, too, helped to slow the rate at which elves were fading into shades, with the shadow pressing in upon them.
All too soon, Tentatio had recovered, and she led her armies in a rapid campaign to capture the seven clans of nymphs. All the while, she continued to convert men into blood mages and nymphs into spirit demons; and the size of her army continued to grow, despite heavy casualties inflicted by the nymphs.
When the clans had all fallen, Tentatio moved north to the headwaters of a river which ran west towards the Aequora, her first targets. By the roots of the mountain, she gathered her full strength to wage the final wars.
But before she could launch her first attacks against the kingdoms of elves, the Virtues rallied the free peoples they had awoken, and gave them the courage to face their enemies in battle. Pinned against the mountain, Tentatio's army was choked and defeated. The Sins, her children, who commander her army, were defeated in single combat by the Virtues. Despite her best efforts to control the minds of the Virtues, she could not touch them.
In fear, the family fled north to their stronghold as their army was cut down around them. When Tentatio and her children had reached their own lands with the last of the demons, the Virtues caused the mountains to grow tall and wild around them, so that none would enter or exit those lands. They choked the northern seas with ice, never melting, so ships could not pass that way. With the evil contained, the Virtues passed away, and Tentatio and the Sins passed into myth and legend.
Today, most have forgotten them, but there are some who remember the old tales. There are even elves who were at that battle, thousands of years ago, when the Virtues walked among them. There are some who believe that her mind still influences all creatures, calling them to the evil ways. Fewer still believe that she will rise up again and try to cover all the world in shadow... But who may know who is right?

Flos is an immortal light nymph, preserved forever in the purity of the light she manipulates. She is the embodiment of the innocence of the nymphs. All except the darkness nymphs that is.

Knowledge: acquaintance with facts, truths, or principles, as from study or investigation.

Knowledge is perhaps the most powerful of the Virtues. Born an elf of the second generation, she devoted her life to seeking answers to questions. In time, Knowledge acquired so much information that she became more wise than the oldest elf.

Hope: the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best.

I had to make up for the terrible edit I did, so here it is, changed the skin tones, eyes, hair, dress, and made the background less distracting :3
