I would assume in a group like this that others at least enjoy photography as a hobby. As I indicated in my introduction thread I do own my own studio, I just opened it up last year and have done a large veriety.. growing my artistic style even more with each new job.
Feel free to discuss your preferences, digital vs film, BW/color and so on.
What would you discribe your style as.. or what do you enjoy photographing mostly.
I love film although I can't afford to mess up (or have the lab mess them up) now so I only use film for true black and whites and for my own personal use. I love the old model cameras, the old canon AE-1s, they're solid all manual cameras that give you complete controll over the photograph. So you're in charge not the camera! So for pleasure and art I use film.. For business I use Digital.
I do not develope my own (sadly, I dont have the equipment nor the time.. but I do miss it) I just trust in a good pro lab to do the work for me.
Please ask me any questions you like, this happens to be the one subject you cant get me to stop talking about.

I have a friend and business partner who is or was a professional photographer, and did pictures of famous people like Presidents George Bush Sr. and Bill Clinton. He is now my graphics designer in Tree in a Forest web design EDIT: now we have dissolved the business and web site but I still do www.rainflowers.org
He mentioned with gloomy looks that they were discontinuing film manufacturing for one of the major photo businesses? I don't remember exactly, but I guess they want to move to all digital even though it's not as highly defined at least yet.

I think its sad, but now its not always about the art. Its about instant results. And with digital people can have a wedding photographed and have their photos ready for online proofing the next day. Its a high-speed society we live in. I tried hard to fight it at first but I gave in quickly. I am an artist at heart, but a business woman first. (or I'll starve) I do love digital though, it's cheaper to practice with, easier to manipulate graphicly, and you dont have to worry about film speeds/type and having enough of the right kind when the opportunity arrises.
Interesting style your friend has. I like it, its not what I expected but that's good. Its refreshing.

Hi digitally edited someone else's photos for that. In fact, in this town you need to have a background check for photographer license, or else a storefront. So he declined on doing photos for the web sites we do but he edits stuff.

Same here in some places, so for on location work, I don't do within the city limits, paying fees and such just gets too expensive and it's anual. Most of the time it falls outside anyway. When I went to go get my permit for a nearby town.. just so I could have them, the lady told me to fill out the papperwork but wait untill I actually had a job there to file it, so I filled it out, and wouldn't you know it a whole year has past and I still haven't needed one for that town.
