International relations came to a head today when the US and North Korean women's teams played each other. The US scored two goals against North Korea, and a third was disallowed due to a goalie foul.

FIRE ZE MISSILES!

Look, if Kim Jong Il didn't roll out the nukes after their national team got obliterated on live TV in North Korea during the men's World Cup, he's not going to do anything about it now... except maybe film a fake match where the NK wins by a dozen goals or so.

He'd do something like that, the man writes the book on how to be a crazy dictator.

Yeah, and the reffing wasn't anything to write home about. It obviously wasn't malicious and I do feel bad because she'll be so heavily scrutinized, but man.

That's true.
>_> I wouldn't want to ref in any kind of professional sport. Soccer moms and dads are scary enough at the kiddie level as it is crying

But US played much better after Buehler was ejected. It was almost like they needed a wakeup slap to pull themselves together

After this I tip the USA to win, Sweden will struggle to get past them and Japan, despite having a great team, is just not up to US/Brazil level.

Mmm, I would have liked to see a Japan/USA game. Japan has really awesome ball control to compensate for lack of height and they didn't let the Germans give 'em s**t.

Our girls have been able to get over the line vs Japan a lot lately, and yeah, it's about height and speed, two things the USA's team also has. I'd back the USA to win 3/4 games vs Japan.

Though you got to give them credit. Asian cup third place behind Aus and Nth Korea, but did better than both of our teams in the world cup.

I liked how East Germany did sports. Drug athletes and if they dropped dead you replace them. How athletes should be treated as.

I saw that. Got to admit I was surprised. Looking forward to the final.

I'm actually incredibly happy for Japan. I'm obviously rooting for the US, but Japan is definitely a country that could use a pick-me-up like getting to the finals of the World Cup. I've also heard that their training was essentially a lot of running because their usual facilities were unavailable due to the need for the country to ration electricity. In fact, their eye was on 2012 so this is a pretty big surprise.
