What would you suggest? Discuss here.

Here's my idea:

Story: Chrono wakes up in a mysterious forest, having lost his memory. He has no idea what happened, almost as though the world just started to begin. Or has it? Despite his condition he finds a few things wrong with his surroundings. Trees and huge skyscrapers coexist, as well as people of different eras. But his friends are gone. He soon finds out that time has "jumbled up" and he must fix the events that happened and will happen along the timeline to eventually find everyone. What will happen along the way? Will he succeed? What important plot events will occur?

Concept: The time element plays a more important role here. The obvious goal is to set the timeline back to normal. This must be done by "missions" sort of like FF Tactics and Phantasy Star Online, placing him in different scenarios throughout the timeline. The missions are started immediately just by choosing them, so there's no need to wander around. Some must be completed to advance the story, but others are available as options. The interesting thing is that completing missions unlocks new events in time, so depending on what point in time you are in there will be different and unique objectives.

Battle System: Undecided, but I think the good old battle system from CT should return rather than this "Field Effect" crap from CC. There should be enhancements as well, like a better interface and newer attacks.

Well that's my say. Again, feel free to submit your own ideas.

I seriously like this idea of yours, and wish it could be a real game.

But another great idea would be to have the sequel be similar to a cool
RP that a friend of mine did at the now-dead site, Final Fantasy Addicts.

The story was called "Chrono Force", and started out in the future. Criminals had somehow learned how to do timetravel, and plotted to use it to create havoc throughout time to suit their insane desires. So a special task force was created to hunt down and deal with these creeps, as well as repair any damage done to the timeline. Since racial equality exists in the future, the members were a nice combination of human and mystic (my character was, of course, a mystic). But to make matters even worse, Lavos Spawn had been discovered to still exist and were following the criminals to each time they traveled -causing further problems. And to top it all off with the major bad crap, it was learned that someone high up in the organization was sabotaging missions to fail and even killing members.

I'd like to see a similar story like this be for a sequel, and perhaps the main character be a descendant of Crono or something just as cool...

(and DEFINITELY have Magus or a relative of his be involved)

I would love a Chrono Trigger sequel but their last attempt was way less than mediocre. I did not like Chrono Cross at all! They called it the sequel but it had nothing to do with Chrono Trigger at all! If they DID make a sequel, I would like to see it on the PS2, Gamecube and Xbox and have alot of the same elements Chrono Trigger. Only let the player be able to use free motion. They can still use all the different moves and stuff, but how about an option that lets you fight either classic style or free movement where you can run around in a battle and attack when you want? I think that's a good idea. I enjoy both ways. What do you think?

Ummm... If you play Chrono Cross to the end you'll notice that it tied in directly with CT...

Tied to it in a creepy sort of way. I'm not a fan of how they're connected.

OKAY. Since I got the guts to finally reveal my true "dream idea" for a new CT game over at Chrono Compendium (the most kickass fansite, next to Order of the Blackwind), I might as well let everyone here in on it all. Here's the post that I gave over there, in it's wonderful entirety (and yes, I use the same username there that I use here at Gaia).

Here's a major can of worms to be opened. New technology has been birthed.

.......Through the creation of the Xbox game "Blue Dragon".

Finally, someone has figured out how to transform Akira Toriyama's badass artwork into total 3D characters and environments. Flawlessly transform them, mind you.

With this in existence, there comes the wondrous possibility of being able to do the same artistic genius with the Chrono series. Just think of this (my lovely dream):

Get Akira Toriyama to work on this (duh), use Blue Dragon's awesome 3D modeling, have a storyline that involves the original CT world and its characters (maybe not all of them, but possibly children of them or something), have it involve time travel as well as space travel (how else would the other characters get involved? I though it'd rock if Lucca made a sort of "ChronoPhone" that'd allow for talking to people in other time periods, and be able to see them as well), and to give the game incredible depth... have this epic adventure take place on MORE than one planet. Best part: Discovering that Lavos is not a normal creature, and in fact was created by an ancient alien race. Their planet was destroyed by Lavos and its spawn, yet remnants of their civilization still can be found on a few worlds they traveled to. Piecing together all that's available on those planets, the heroes of this tale will quest for the ultimate goal - find the lost creator of Lavos and put a stop to the fiend's world-defiling research and inventions. Heh heh... you can bet your a** that this could involve Magus, for he would have the greatest desire to put an end to that mad scientist's work - and his wretched life.

An epic tale of avenging those who were killed or had their lives ruined by Lavos.

Why no mentions of Chrono Cross stuff? I've never enjoyed the storyline for that game, even though it was pretty interesting. It tried to reinvent the original and make it suck (namely, it would've been different if Akira had worked on it and if they had included some other characters from CT - like Magus and Crono).

Two things that piss me off about that: A.) I couldn't because my disc kept freezing up at the last boss. B.) I couldn't get another one.

Have pity on me!

I agree that Chrono Cross doesn't deserve to rightfully be an heir to Chrono Trigger, as a game on its own disregarding any connection to Chrono Trigger whatsoever, it is a reletively decent game, however it didn't tie in clearly to its parent, and moreover where it did tie in to it was in odd ways that were at times difficult. I think the majority decision on comparing how well Chrono Cross is as a sequal to Chrono Trigger would be to say that it is lacking in many ways, and that there could have been a much larger effort made to ensure the success of the game as a sequal. I personally think the designers have barely ever played the original and that they put more emphasis on a new storyline than making the game so that it would be an acceptable sequal. The idea of taking the extermination of Lavos to a new level and basically adding space travel too it is a novel idea, one that i think would have made much more sense and definetaly would have made the original CT fan happy to play, I personally think if they had done something like that then it would be rightfully able to be called a sequel.

My personal choice would be to follow Janus on his search for his sister. This is brought up in CC however it was unsatisfactory in my eyes. Keeping the multitude of universes or times is a better tactic and turning an optional side character into a main character that the story is based around ( mainly because i believe janus (magus) to be the more intriguing character of the group and many would rightly agree) would have made a much larger market for square enix and a much more enjoyable game. The other part that could have been done better has already been discussed somewhat on here, the battle system on CC is far inferior to CT, a more modern remdition of the older battle system would have sufficed far better.
Sorry for the rant, but among a few friends of mine it is a subject they don't like to fall into because some of them believe CC a better game, which is something i will argue till my last breath. Especially since they haven't really even played CT, they base their decision on the modern graphics of CC. razz

That would be a great storyline...
