So. The Earth still rotates on its axis. It still travels around the sun. And yes, there is still life swarming over the land and in the oceans. From a distance, nothing has changed, but when you walk on the dusty ground, amongst the changed population, you can almost see it. You can almost see the taint, the disease that corrupts every living being at its very core.
Of course, this is not a sickness in the traditional sense- no one dies directly because of it. No one appears to notice as the change takes effect. Only once it is complete do they, and all those close to them, realize what they have become.
The human population of Earth is changing swiftly- too quick for their minds to comprehend what is happening. Some call it magic, others evolution, some call it the end of days. Whatever the name, it is happening, and there is nothing that can be done to stop it.

ProfilesYaaySo, for your profiles (of which there should only be one), please use the following code when PM'ing it to me: Gaian Name: Character Name: Age: Special Skills: (Essentially things they are good at) Ability/Abilities: (This is where the fun starts. What ability does your character have? Can they fly? Cast magical spells? Have enhanced senses? Please nothing too overpowered. The last thing we need is some Superman wannabe beating up our characters.) Bio/Personality: Appearance:
Gaian Name: Shale Darksnow Character Name: Orin Leeson Age: 20 Special Skills: Orin believes himself to be hilarious, and often makes jokes. Most of them aren't funny. He also has a knack for getting into and out of trouble. Ability/Abilities: Orin has what he likes to call "animal mimicry." In short, he can take on the physical traits of any animal except those extinct like dinosaurs. Bio/Personality: Orin once was normal. He had a nice family; a twin brother and parents that loved him. What happened to change this, he never speaks of, even to those he trusts dearly. Long story short, he hasn't seen his family in a couple years because he ran away when his abilities manifested. He has two sides to his personality: the joke cracking adaptive side, and the cold and calculating side. Appearance: Orin (minus the claws, of course)---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------= Gaian Name: Herbblade Character Name: Melanie Parker Age: 19 Special Skills: Mel is a talker and was often described by her mother as ‘argumentative’ but she hates gossip. She doesn’t get involved in other people’s business unless they let her. Ability/Abilities: Mel can pick up images or feelings from anything she touches. With inanimate objects it lets her understand how something works or who recently touched the object, and with living beings she picks up feelings, thoughts or memories. Bio/Personality: The youngest of three sisters, Mel is outspoken and independent. She was closest with her father and left home after he died. She discovered her powers shortly after and hasn’t had much long-term contact with people since while trying to figure her powers out. Appearance: Melanie---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------= Gaian Name: Selena616 Character Name: Niro Age: 3 107, Roughly. Special Skills: Being a know-it-all, a jerk, standing up for what he believes in. Ability/Abilities: Foreseeing the future, knowing the past, controlling time: slowing it down, speeding it up or stopping it. Until he becomes an Oracle again he cannot travel in time. Bio/Personality:Niro is an Oracle, his specialty is time and its control. However, the other Oracles banded together to strip him of his powers and send him into time as a human, as punishment for abusing his magic. Niro foreseeing the day that they would finally turn against him, sealed a fraction of his magic inside a white gold pocket watch he carries. Though his powers are no longer formidable, as long as he has the watch, he can still access some of them. He does not know what he must do to return to his position, he does know that he dearly hates being alive. He can come off as a total a**, arrogant, rude and blunt. He tells it like it is because after all, he is living time. Appearance: Niro---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------= Gaian Name: Edward_Shane Character Name: Loreno Age: 21 Special Skills: Though he is usually quiet, this tends to make people listen when he does speak. He can be very imposing and intimidating, easily unnerving people by simply looking into their eyes.Ability/Abilities: Not only is he extremely skilled with the blade and far faster than your average human, he can also read minds...though he cannot influence anyone's thoughts with this power, only know what they are thinking or trying to hide. Due to the curse he has and its secondary effect, he also has a somewhat higher resistance to pain than others would. Bio/Personality: Though he may not have his full memory...he does remember the incident that caused him to forget most of his life, and everything since. The earliest memory he has is that of his sister being murdered by a dark mage, who then proceeded to curse him just before fading into the shadows...and thus, escaping Loreno's grasp. He cannot remember his sister's name, or even his own last name...only his first name remained in his memory. As a result of this curse, not only were his memories wiped, he occasionally goes into episodes of ferocious pain spiking through his entire body. In the end, Loreno was able to track down this mage and avenge his sister...but his memories remained absent, the curse still intact. Now, he is merely a wandering sellsword, making a living off the various dirty deeds that need to be done. Appearance: Loreno ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------= RulesOkay, yes, there are rules. Please follow them for max goodness. - Use spell check. Most browsers have them built in, so it's kinda hard to not use them. - COMPLETE SENTENCES are GODLY. Use them, and we'll be fine. Don't use them, and I'll eat your face. - I have this minor issue with people using incorrect words (i.e. they're, there, and their; your and you're). If you mess up once or twice, I won't mind, but if you make a habit of it... Well, I'll bug you until you get it right. - No being omnipotent. No one likes a godmodder (if they're still called that). - Let's not start spewing out curse words after every few sentences. Yeah, most of us are grown, but we still don't like to see someone drop the f-bomb after every three words. - Finally, have fun. That's kinda the point here.

"You look like s**t."
Orin squinted his blue eyes in the excruciatingly bright light. "What time is it?"
"Ten thirty," his roommate, Jason, stood in front of the window with his arms crossed. "You, good sir, have class in half an hour."
Orin groaned and rubbed his eyes. He had the nightmare last night, the same one he'd been having for the last two years. Jason looked smug for some reason. Him and his smugness.. "Thanks for getting me up," he croaked, slowly climbing to his feet. "I'm going to shower."
"Have fun. While you do that, I'll be studying for our Chem final."
Orin grumbled while digging around for clean clothes, a search that took almost ten minutes. After a quick ten minute shower, he was out the door, his bag slung over his shoulder and an apple in his hand.
He arrived exactly four minutes late, and took his seat at the back of the lecture hall, next to his friend Jake, whom he deemed his "Bio Friend." Both he and Jake were Biology majors, taking the same Biology and Chemistry classes, so they naturally became friends.
"You're late," Jake noted, turning a page in his notebook and jotting down more notes.
"Yep. I can see you missed me."
"Oh, I was in tears."
"You really do care!"
"Of course," Jake smirked at Orin. "You do owe me five bucks."
"I'll make it up to you somehow. Anyway, what'd I miss?"

Mel ignoring the girl behind the counter. Her name tag said 'Caela' and Mel had spared about seven seconds to wonder what problem Caela's parents had had with just admitting they were naming their daughter Kayla.
But since buying the cheapest item on the menu, a cookie, over an hour ago, Mel had been hanging out in her corner and ignoring everyone else. Until Caela started staring.
Sighing, Mel did a last check on her email--her oldest sister wanted to meet up; Mel didn't bother responding when Erin would have three more emails sent by nightfall--and packed up her computer. As she left, Mel ignored the overwhelming feeling of other people as she touched the door handle. She was with OCD people on that one--those things were touched way too often to be sanitary.

"... And I'm done for today. Have a nice weekend," Orin's professor dismissed the class, which had already begun filtering out of the lecture hall. Like any sensible college student, Orin got up to leave the moment his professor said the word "done" and was ten feet away from room by "weekend."
"Orin! Wait up!" He stopped and spun on his heels to face the pretty blond that called his name.
"What's up, Stacy?" He slung his bag over his shoulder and ran his hand through his blond hair. Orin hated Stacy with a passion, but he had never actually let her know.
"I was watching you lift your bag. It looks really heavy!"
Orin furrowed his brows. "It isn't," he crossed his arms.
"But it's so stuffed! Let me try lifting it," Stacy already had her thin fingers underneath the shoulder strap.
"Sure, go ahead." Don't break a nail, he thought, smirking internally. He slipped it off and held it by a single hand. Stacy lifted it, only to send it crashing to the ground.
"It's so heavy!" Even a deaf and blind person could tell she was lying. Plus, Orin could almost smell the lust radiating off of her.
"I don't even... Stacy, it weighs less than five pounds. It only has a book, a notebook, and a pencil in it. If you're having difficulty lifting it, then you're a lot more... Ugh, never mind," he picked up his bag and walked away, Stacy stood there watching him leave, a shocked and angry look on her face. Alright, I totally pissed her off. Next stop: some food.

Mel tapped her foot as she waited for the crosswalk sign to change. As a kid, Mel hadn't really followed rules like crosswalks and little white dudes telling her when to go, but she didn't have money for a hospital stay if somebody ran her over.
And her mom would probably kill her if she had to pay for Mel's funeral.
When the sign changed, Mel crossed the street whistling the Mario theme. It made things feel cheerier, until she practically ran into a blonde girl in very short shorts.
"Wah!" Mel yelled, grabbing a street light to stop herself from falling backwards and probably landing on her laptop, even as the blonde girl landed on the ground. Pulling herself back up, Mel offered the girl hand. "Oh, jeez, I'm sorry. I have a recurring problem with looking where I'm going. Physically and metaphorically, you know--"
The girl slapped Mel's hand away and pushed herself up. "Just leave me alone, you hobo," she growled before stalking off.
Mel rolled her eyes. "You should meet my sister. The two of you would get on fantastically," she said, but the other girl was gone and no one else was paying attention. "Well, ok, then."

Orin flinched as he heard someone yelp. He turned to look in time to see Stacy pick herself off of the ground and march off, obviously even madder than she was when he shot her down. From what he could gather, she collided with another girl, fell to the ground, and then refused the other girl's help. Feeling partially responsible, he trotted over to the other girl to apologize. "Hey, sorry about Stacy. She, well, she can be a complete b***h sometimes. It's my fault she's mad this time- she wanted to, um, ride my stallion, if you catch my drift. Graph my ellipse. Pet my puppy. Goof my troop. Sail my ship," he could go on and on, but Jake frequently told him that when meeting new people, especially young women, going overboard was not the thing to do.
Orin took a deep breath, "ah, sorry. I kind of went overboard with the whole thing. My name's Orin Leeson." He thrust out his hand. "I'm totally going to high five you if you don't shake my hand. Just throwin' that out there."

"TNo, I'm OK and you're more interesting than Blondie," Mel said, giving the guy, Orin, a look. "Lucky you though, pulling in a catch like her. Must be real exciting. I'm Mel Parker, by the way." She shook his hand for the shortest amount of time possible and then pulled back.
He was a college student, and some kind of science major. His roommate sucked at Call of Duty. "Fantastic," Mel muttered to herself.

"She throws herself at anything that has two legs and looks slightly masculine," Orin shrugged and shoved his hands into his pockets. "It's nice to meet you, Mel Parker. How about I walk you to your next class? I'll make sure you don't walk into anymore angry people." He caught a brief scent on a passing breeze, causing him to raise his nose to the air. His mind flashed an image of a wolf, and he felt his senses magnify. Orin could copy traits of any animal he could think of, like the eyes of a hawk or the speed of a cheetah. He once tried copying the gills of a shark, but decided it was too 'fishy' and never tried it again.
Anyway, the scent on the air was coming from Mel. "You... You smell different than a normal person. Can you, by any chance, do things? Fly? Catch annoying people on fire? Breathe rocks?"

"If I could set people on fire, there would be a lot more flaming people," Mel said, stunned. "What do you mean, 'do things'? How did you know that? What do you mean, I smell different?"
Mel was kind of freaked out, but more by the smelling than anything else. She didn't know a lot of people, since she'd packed up and run out of her house right after she'd turned 18. Her dad had left her enough money to pay for college and a crappy apartment, but when Mel had found out about her power, she'd stopped trying to find a job.
Being a journalism major got Mel enough social interaction while she tried to figure herself out. She took a deep breath and calmed herself down a little and figured she might as well explain things to Orin. "I can, well... I pick up images and memories from everything I touch. It's weird, and I can't really explain it. What about you? Super smell?"

Orin frowned. "I, uh, can copy animals," he simplified it, glancing around to make sure no one could hear. When it came to explaining his ability, which he did rarely, he often confused people. "Um, it's kind of hard to explain, really." He caught her scent again. "Us people with abilities... We smell different than the normal people. A bit spicier, if that makes any sense. You kinda smell like spicy strawberries. Totally not trying to sound like a stalker or anything."

Mel settled for being amused by the whole situation. "I'll try and remember that. Spicy strawberries," she paused and shook her head. This was nuts.
"I know how you feel about the hard to explain bit, though. Have you met other people with abilities? I haven't."

Orin winced, but decided to not go into details. "My twin brother had abilities," he managed to croak out. "Anyway, I suppose I shouldn't shake your hand anytime soon. You might end up seeing something awkward. Wait, what did you see when you shook my hand? Should I apologize for anything? You curious about anything?" Orin broke into a grin, heavily amused.

"Sorry," Mel said, realizing that she'd hit a bad subject. "And, yeah, if you've got any secrets, or just like your space, I wouldn't touch me. All I saw though was that you're some kind of science major, and you like video games but you don't play that much because your roommate is crap."
She ran a hand through her hair and figured that, to be fair, she should explain more. "Hands aren't that revealing, so you don't have to worry. Just because of the amount of things you touch everyday. You can ask me something, though, if you want to even the score."

"Yeah, Jason is crap when it comes to winning," Orin laughed, pulling out his cell phone as he walked. "How come barely anyone ever uses full words in texts? "Pik up a bag ov chipz wile ur ot." What." He shoved it back into his pocket while shaking his head. "I think I'll be finding out more about you as time goes on. No need to rush the issue."
