Venturing away from the herd that her father Swift Wind maintained and protected, the little filly wandered off to the lake that was conveniently located by her father's herd. The little filly was always curious about other Soquili, and she had known the lake to be a place where Soquili would come any given place just to take a break in the lake. Her soft blues eyes took in the area around her and smiled softly at the sights. She wanted to go up to any one of them, but she felt as it might be inappropriate for her to disturb a Soquili.
Feeling more inclined to investigate the water, the young filly stepped up to the edge of the lake. She smiled and looked over the water's surface, investigating the bugs that seemed to walk on water or linger over the surface. Coming into focus on the water itself, she saw herself in the lake and blinked. "Woah! What's that? Is that me?" She said out loud to herself. She made a couple faces, like wrinkling her nose, wiggling her eyebrows, and winking at herself and found it the most amusing thing ever. "I look more like daddy than mommy." She said with a firm nod at her observation in the lake water. "Do you agree too, Dawn in the water?" She said and laughed while nodding her head. "I'm glad you agree too!"

It seemed that every step taken, every path traveled and every road trodden led to the same result, and once again, disappointment left a bitter taste in his mouth.
Kaitou had lost count of the time- days, weeks, months?- since he had started this foolhardy endeavor, wandering blindly through a territory that was as unfamiliar to him as dry land to a fish. The few he encountered had been unable to decipher the broken mutterings he had offered, unwilling to expend the effort necessary to decode what he meant to say... and the only one he knew who would understand was still lost to him.
Still, he had found no clue as to her wherabouts.
A sigh fell from his ebon' muzzle as the stallion drew to a sudden halt, ears flicking forward as he caught the faint sounds of someone's laughter. A child, perhaps? Curious, he ventured further, keeping his steps quiet so as not to startle anyone, head lowered in an unassuming pose as he brushed past the foliage that protected a small clearing.
Unbidden, a smile crept onto his lips as he witnessed the young filly speak to her reflection, amethyst hues warming at her childish giggles. It had been quite some time since he had seen a foal- had it been so long since Amaya had been a child? He preferred not to think so. He had always had a soft spot for children- her in particular, but he was biased.
In any case, she appeared not to have noticed him, yet.
"Ohayou, mikuru misu."

The young foal paid no mind to the any of the surrounding Soquili, entranced by her own reflection. She looked over the varying shades of dark pink that made up her hair, the thicker shape of her unicorn horn, to the lighter shade of pink of her own coat. Her face brightened at her observation of her own self, really finding this an odd occurrence to see one's self. "Now, what should we do today, Dawn in the water?" She asked herself out loud. Her ears twitched on top of her head before one of them flicked back at the noise of another Soquili close by. "What was that?" She wondered, not recognizing the language that had just been spoken and turned to face the stranger. The foal's face brightened up at the sight.
"Wow! Are you a knight?" The little foal asked in excitement. Her big blue eyes were trained on the stallion before her. "You look like a handsome knight, just like my daddy!" She said with a nod to her head.

Almost immediately, his expression contorted in an instant confusion, but after a moment, he inwardly rolled his eyes at his mistake. Of course, his language was still unfamiliar here... even to one of his own kind. After the annoyance of his previous experiences, it was a wonder how he'd forgotten.
Fluent in the native language here he was most certainly not, but Kaitou was at least well-versed enough to catch the gist of what the young filly was saying- except for what she called him. 'Night'..? Well... he glanced idly down at his coat. He supposed he could be compared to the color of dusk, but it didn't seem that was what she meant, so what else...
...Oh. Oh.
An awkward grin graced the stallion's dark features as he lowered his head to better speak with the small unicorn, though he hoped his body language would convey more than his words. "Knight... kind of." Well, those were words, at least. "Family... called 'Hogosha'. Eto... 'Protector'." He paused here, playfully pulling on a lock of her pink mane to draw her attention away from his armor, where he was sure it was fixed.
"What is little miss called?"

Ethereal Dawn stood there in front of the stallion, observing him. She liked what he wore very much. It almost made her want to ask the stallion to remove them and let her try it on so she can pretend to be this "knight" she envisioned him to be like.
Feeling a light tug to one of her locks, the little foal giggled a bit due to being caught staring at the stallion's armor and moved her gaze to brightly smile at the stallion. "Kind of like a knight, except there's no king... I think." She said, trying to understand the stallion. "Hmmm. I still think you're a knight." She nodded her head firmly.
"Oh! My name is Ethereal Dawn." She said quickly to the stallion, deciding to get a bit closer to the stallion's leg guards. "What's Mr. Knight's name?" She asked curiously, about ready to nose the shiny leg guards.

Well, that was an odd name. Then again, 'dawn' he could place, but 'ethereal' just evaded his limited understanding of the native language here. Still, he supposed it wasn't important- her short attention span didn't seem to warrant the amount of time it would take to voice such a question, anyway. It was better to stick to the basics, for now... perhaps she could even help him here, if it came to that.
An affectionate smile graced his cerulean maw as she continued to insist on calling him 'knight'- which made much more sense in the context she was using than the one he had been considering before. He didn't quite think it fit... he was proud of his clan, of course, and the Protectors were somewhat noble in their efforts to look after the Healers; but that was as far as their 'noble' streak went. They looked after their own, and nothing else. Xenophobic to the point of bigotry.
Shaking off the thought with a small nod of his head, Kaitou lipped at the little filly's ear as she edged closer to his armor, a gentle warning to her not to get pinched beneath the shifting plates of his gauntlets. "I am Kaitou, Dawn-chan. It is... pleased to see you." Again, he paused after those words, deciding they didn't sound quite right, but unable to grasp exactly where he'd gone wrong in the simple greeting. It was maddening, to not be able to do something as simple as communicate in this unfamiliar place.
"Am... sorry, Dawn-chan," he offered with a chagrined smile. "Words here... different." It was the best explanation he could offer, but he wondered at this point if she would even care, in her childlike wonder. Perhaps it would shatter the fantasy of a knightly figure- it wasn't as if he felt the least bit noble and chivalrous, anyway.
