Yes, the topic is πατριωτισμό. Some of you may be asking: what the hell does that mean?
...if you haven't looked it up on the Internet by now, I shall pity you and tell you: it means "patriotism" is Greek. I simply wanted to confuse a few of you momentarily...the few that will ever read this. Anyway, I'm listening to an ancient Greek folktale on iTunes (that thing is frickin amazing) so that inspired me to write out the topic in Greek. That...and I like to mess with you. blaugh Anyway, so this month's topic is about patriotism. Naturally, this is related to the fact that it is July 4th, and that is America's birthday. Wow...yay. Still listening to my idiot neighbor blow up fireworks. Naturally, I know that a lot of you guys that read this aren't from America, and I want you guys to write your poems celebrating your own countries, from their successes to their failures to your own personal opinions. I myself will not be taking part in this contest, since I'm afraid of what to say. (Last time I provided an opinion on my country, I got into a debate with Lykie and I'm afraid we both still have bruises over it...hers being more extensive and painful, of course. wink ) Whether you're from England, Belgium, Italy, America, Spain, France, Germany or any other country in this big wide world, I want you to write about your country. No bashing on America, please. I know this day that I am writing this is well-known for being America's birthday, but I don't want you guys to take it personally that I chose to have this particular topic for this month's topic because of that. No bashing! Rules, as usual: 1. Don't vote for yourself. 2. At least three poems up for submission before voting starts. I will delay as long as necessary, up to July 30th. Believe me, I won't enjoy that. I hate waiting. 3. No bashing. (How many times have I said that? Just enough to be perfectly clear without introducing anybody to my hand...my hand, with its long nails that are perfectly good at scratching even through an Internet connection. LOL.) 4. Voting starts July 20th, hopefully. This might be delayed if you guys are being stubborn asses and not posting...again. ((*sigh*)) 5. A winner will be chosen July 30th...hopefully. Again, this might be delayed if you guys don't post and don't vote! 6. ...don't annoy me any more than I am annoyed, 'kay? We should all be happy. Yay!

I'm not big on saluting America, but here it goes.
Africa's the elder child, Fussing all the time. Slaves are sold, Deaths are tolled, The sadness works with time.
Russia is the middle child, He lost all his friends, Distance Decay, It gave way And cold wars began.
America's the youngest, He's got a lot to learn. Not what was told, No tea sold, But what he was to earn.
Fighting for his freedom, he didn't want to stay. Risked his life, Through the strife, Wanted to see a day.
A day where he was free to go, And soon did that day come, We're still here, With a sheer Urge to get things done.
No matter where you are, On whatever fateful day, We're still free, And victory Still blesses the USA.
