don't get me wrong. i love apples. but personally i think he was brainwashed.

The reason why is that shinigami in deathnote can only eat apples, I think. But, he has a very big obsession with them more than the other shinigami that appear like Ren! blaugh

because the apples here are better then teh apples in the shinigami world, like in the episode when he brings messa an apple from his world it wasnt a** good as the ones from our world so. tahts just what i think though

^ I agree, Strategic fail. He did show an apple from the shinigami world sometime in the series, it being the movie or anime. I can't tell the difference anymore. crying ........But anyways he did mention that. blaugh

I thought it was because the apples in the Shinigami Realm were dry and didnt taste like anything...but that doesnt explain WHY he liked them >.< Maybe there was nothing else in the Shinigami Realm that they could eat?

why wouldn't he like apples? they taste amazing, and they keep doctors with their giant needles away.. >.>

Yeah, like people said, the apples in the Shinigami Realm are crap. And wikipedia says "Tsugumi Ohba said that he always mentioned Apples in the thumbnails because he wished to use "the dying message that Shinigami only eat Apples." Therefore, he simply needed Ryuk to hold Apples and that "there's no other reason." Ohba also said that he specifically chose Apples because the red "goes well" with Ryuk's black body and that the apples "fit well" with Ryuk's "big" mouth. When Takeshi Obata informed Ohba that Apples held religious and psychological significance and that a person could "read a lot" into their inclusion and its Symbolism. When he assumed that was the reason why Ohba included the apples, Ohba said that he did not "think about that at all" and that he merely believes that "apples are cool... that's it. (laughs)" Ohba added that he felt including aspects that could become later plot points was beneficial, and the apples were used as a point when Light asked Ryuk to search for the cameras in exchange for Apples." XD Thats a lot... OuO I think there is more information in DN 13, if any of you have it.... (I do~ biggrin )
