Stumbled across this quiz which estimates your ideology by comparing you to a series of stereotypes and giving you a score.

I hadn't come across this one before, maybe you guys have or haven't. Worth a try though.

My results: http://quizfarm.com/quizzes/new/Leonstein/leonsteins-political-ideologies-quiz/

Quote:
You Scored as Neoconservative

You're a neocon, and not ashamed to say so. The furthering of democracy leads to peace, wealth and stability in the long term. There's no question that some governments are just plain evil, and that your government has a duty to stand up to them as a force for good. If you combine high scores in neoconservatism and theocracy, you are probably an extreme right-wing US Republican. Fukuyama's "The End of History" as well as the "Project for a New American Century" would be of interest to you.

Neoconservative 79%
Minarchism/Libertarianism 67%
Paleoconservative 63%
Anarcho-Capitalism 58%
Christian Democrat 50%
Trotskyist 46%
Fascist 38%
Stalinist 29%
Anarcho-Syndicalist 29%
Anarcho-Communist 21%
Nazi 17%
Theocracy 17%
Anarcho-Primitivist 8%

So. I'm a Neoconservative-libertarian with some hidden TROTSKYIST leanings =P. Post your results.

How the dickery does one be highly Anarcho-Capitalist and highly Minarchist whilst being a Paleo-Conservative?
[Edit: In retrospect, it makes some sense.]

Quote:
You Scored as Paleoconservative

You're a conservative in the original meaning of the word. You are sceptical when it comes to social engineering...we barely understand the simple things of life, how can we hope to grasp all the interactions going on within a society? Traditions and established practice exist for a reason and are the best thing we have to make society work, and radical change is best surpressed, because it will only end up causing harm. Authors like Edmund Burke are for you.

Paleoconservative 63%
Anarcho-Capitalism 58%
Minarchism/Libertarianism 54%
Trotskyist 50%
Christian Democrat 42%
Neoconservative 38%
Anarcho-Syndicalist 33%
Fascist 33%
Anarcho-Primitivist 33%
Stalinist 33%
Nazi 17%
Theocracy 4%
Anarcho-Communist 4%

Amusing and a nice alternative but still a rather flawed when contradictions like that can arise quite easily. That or my ideals are all too contradicting. That said, it's odd I recieved this description when I stated that traditions aren't neccessarily the best practise.
A model like this kind of has a problem in that it can only ever test for ideals that the maker of the model considers appropriate. I may think it's important to distinguish the forms of capitalist philosophy but not socialist or vise-versa. So it's possibly only fair/accurate/other if you had every political ideology in there. Which would require a much, much bigger quiz and one that somehow updates repeatedly. neutral

Some of these questions are aggravatingly framed. I wish they were more vague.

Edit 1:

Grr.

People who question the basic values of our society, like hippies, irritate me.

That's unfair! Hippies irritate the hell out of me, but that's not why.

You Scored as Christian Democrat
Christian Democrats believe in taking the middle way. They feel it is their duty to God to make life as good as possible for as many people as possible, while preserving progress and political and economic stablity. You're most likely comfortable in a centre-right position, especially in Europe, alongside people like Angela Merkel. Wilhelm Röpke and Alexander Rüstow should be worth a look.

Democracies don’t go to war against each other, so global democratisation would bring world peace.

Ah, democratic peace theory. Someone just completed freshman IR.

Some of these questions I honestly didn't give a s**t and would rock the middle answer to get them out of the way. Like I give a s**t about Social Democratic Parties. Anyway:

Quote:
You're a libertarian. You see the point of having a government, but you wish to see the understanding of itself change, from an all-powerful representation of society to just one cog in the motor that helps the free market function for the good of all. The writings of Milton Friedman and the Chicago School of Economics are for you, as is the Becker-Posner Blog at http://www.becker-posner-blog.com.

Agreed.

I find it funny that I'm tied between being a fascism and minarchism/libertarianism but I got labeled as a fascist.
...so I'm a fascist libertarian?

Quote:

You Scored as Fascist

You're a fascist. You believe that life and existence is a struggle, and we'd be better off all working together to succeed and survive. That also means that those who don't help should not be allowed to remain part of society, and that those who stand against the nation deserve no mercy, because mercy ultimately means weakness in the face of the natural struggle for survival. The nation is best represented by a strong leader, who can make quick decisions for everyone and mustn't hesitate in the face of adversity. Obviously books by Mussolini should be of interest to you.

You Scored as Anarcho-Syndicalist
As anarcho-syndicalist, you believe in the obvious and eternal conflict between workers and their bosses. It's obvious that the workers are producing all the value, so they should simply cut out the middle man and rule the world directly through their cooperatives. Pierre-Joseph Proudhon is an author you might want to have the look at if you haven't already.

Best part is that people with typically left-wing ideals in many of their highest scoring concepts are also getting higher scores for Nazism.
Please, please don't anyone tell the Tea party.

Although I'm still wtf'ing at paleoconservative...I've read Burke; I didn't agree with him.
