███ CHECKMATE BATTLE SYSTEM How can you have a B/C shop about a centuries long struggle without a battle system?! That just isn't done. In any case, the battle system is very much a work in progress. Improvements are being made all the time, so I hope you pay attention to this thread to adjust your battling accordingly.
In addition, if you ever have any ideas on how to improve the battle system, please send me a PM. If you feel that there are problems with it, PM me then too!

███ THE BASICS
If you plan to battle, you MUST have a journal.
█ There are three aspects to battling: Attack (ATK), Defense (DEF) and Stamina (STA).
「 Base Stats 」 are dependent upon your piece's tier number. xxxx Max ATK is TIER NUMBER x 5. xxxx Max DEF is TIER NUMBER x 5. xxxx Max STA is TIER NUMBER x 15.
「 Stat Bonuses 」 are dependent upon your piece's alignment. Each alignment has a strength in a different area. In addition, your piece will gain more stat bonuses upon promotion.
「 Attack (ATK) 」 To attack, RNG a number from 1 - [max attack. This is your attack range. The number generated is the damage initially dealt without any attempts at defense. xxxx NOIR alignments receive +2 to max attack. xxxx BLANC alignments receive -1 to max attack. xxxx HONG alignments receive +0 to max attack. xxxx PROPHYLAXIS alignments receive +1 to max attack.
「 Defense (DEF) 」 To defend, RNG a number from 1 - [max defense. This is your defense range. The number generated is the damage deflected after an attack has been made. The difference of the attack value RNG'd and the defense value RNG'd is the damage you actually take. xxxx NOIR alignments receive -1 to max defense. xxxx BLANC alignments receive +2 to max defense. xxxx HONG alignments receive +0 to max defense. xxxx PROPHYLAXIS alignments receive +1 to max defense.
「 Stamina (STA) 」 is a set value. It is the amount you start each battle with and the goal is to make sure your opponent's stamina is depleted before yours is. xxxx NOIR alignments receive +0 to max stamina. xxxx BLANC alignments receive +0 to max stamina. xxxx HONG alignments receive +5 to max stamina. xxxx PROPHYLAXIS alignments receive +3 to max stamina.

███ THE BASICS
「 Wins 」 occur when your opponent's stamina has reached zero. Your reward is then a spoil of war upon completion of the battle. Have the thread author edit the title so that the word 'DONE' is include/
「 Losses 」 occur when your stamina has reached zero. You will not get penalized for losing.
「 Battle Order 」 is based off of the current relationship between the four main powers. When initiating a battle, the alignments are listed in those who will attack first to those who will attack last:
xxxx NOIR - PROPHYLAXIS - BLANC - HONG xxxx For example, if there is a battle between Noir and Blanc, then Noir would attack first. While Blanc would attack first in a battle against the Hong.
「 Turns 」 consist of one opponent/team attacking while the other opponent/team defends. The defending team has the option to do retaliate instead of defend. At the end of every turn, the battle positions switch.
xxxx For example, a Noir attacks a Blanc first. The Blanc defends or retaliates. Then, on the next turn, the Blanc attacks first while the Noir defends or retaliates. xxxx Attacking twice in one turn is possible with the use of an item (player attacks twice) or with the aid of a Homunculus (player and Homunculus each attack once.)
「 Retaliation 」 is a move unique to each alignment. In exchange for defending against an attack, the piece may gamble on being able to attack where it would normally defend. There is always a possibility of failure.
xxxx Noir pieces have the ability to follow - up . Instead of RNGing to defend, he/she may RNG 1 - 3. A 2 is a succes while a 1 or 3 is a failure. A successful follow - up will allow the Noir piece to deal damage 1.5 x Turn# (+ any ATK boosts currently in effect) to the opponent. If a decimal, round down. For example: On turn 5, the Noir piece makes a successful follow-up. So: 1.5 x 5 = 7.25. Round down and the final damage is 7.
xxxxBlanc this is exactly the same as a Noir's. However, a successful counterattack will deal the same damage dealt back minus 1 and the resulting damage upon you is halved. A A 3 will counter half the damage dealt to you and but no damage will be deflected.
xxxx Hong pieces have the ability to return. The method is the same as a counterattack. A successful return will deal the Hong piece's max amount of damage. A A 3 will return half the Hong piece's max attack.
xxxx Prophylaxis pieces have the ability to launch into a flurry. Roll 3 six sided dice. Even numbers allow the piece to deal two damage. Odd numbers do not cause any damage at all. For example, if you rolled a 1, 4 and 6, then the damage dealt was 4.

███ SET UP
「 Agreement 」 from your opponent to begin a battle is required. You can't just pick a piece and proceed to pummel it. No no no no.
「 Thread Title 」 should be something along the lines of: {Practice Battle} Rob vs. Bob. Be sure to specify WHAT type of battle. A Practice Battle or an Official Battle. xxxx Finished Battles should have the word "DONE" and who the victor was in the title so I know to award spoils of war. If it isn't there, who knows when you'll get your prize?
「 Posts 」 should contain a specific list of items to ensure that there is little confusion as to what is going on. xxxx Turn # is optional. It's very easy to forget to update this in your posts. But it can helpful in determining where a mistake was made while battling. xxxx Alignment xxxx Stats xxxx Current Stamina/Total Stamina Once at the beginning of the turn. And again when actions have been taken. xxxx Action Being Taken Attack. Defend. Retaliation. Item Usage xxxx Target When in a battle against two opponents, be sure to state the target. If not, then the default target will always be the opponent who began the battle. xxxx Effects From Previous Turn If a counterattack or follow up was successful. How much damage did you take? If you used an item, what were the effects?
