Regulus looked up at the stars, they were only slightly visible in the light evening sky; it was always the way with the Summer. Nights were shorter and the days longer.... but work still needed to be done, and since Regulus had always used the stars to guide him it simply made his job harder.

This night the twinkling orbs of fire confirmed what they had said yesterday.... Walk east. It was a shame that he couldn't determine more from the stars, like who needed him or their exact location. But some how he always managed to find his way. It was funny how Fate always had it's way... no matter how far you wandered from your path you always found your way back to fate.

Regulus's eyes wandered around him, the tree line that lead to the forest stood proudly on his left, while the whispering long grass of the plain danced and swayed as a gentle breeze caressed them. His hair was already trying to escape its heavy braid, and the ends started to catch and collect twigs and pebbles from the ground.

Still.... Regulus couldn't see what the stars had sent him to find. So he continued East, hoping that he wasn't too late or that the injury he was destined to help wasn't too severe.

Most had taken the short night as a time to sleep. Days were spent exploring, learning, doing. Nights were spent in rest and recovery. Yet this night had found Asiya awake. Something in the breeze drove her to walk away from where she normally slept and towards the empty lands.

How long had it been since her eyes had seen such a beautiful sight as the night sky? Asiya didn’t know nor did she care too. Yet as she stood there, it was hard not to wish night could last far longer. Such a treasure and all slept though its gift. A cruel twist of fate.

Going to move again, the darkness hid its own fate from her.

Asiya felt herself not only falling the short distance her height kept her from the ground by felt something piercing her front right leg in less than a heart beat.

Several leaves kicked up as she landed at the edge of a bush. Her eyes were so close to it that she couldn't miss the thorns jutting outwards. “Well that wasn’t a polite way to say hello.” She whispered. Looking behind her to make sure no one had seen, the mare moved to stand. she made it half way up before he leg twitched and gave out. Just from experience alone told her that she had twisted it and most likely had an open wound.

“Very rude.” She commented looking back at the bush. Yet slowly, a smile climbed onto her face. That same bush looked just like an herb from back in their own lands that could mask the pain before the wound healed. “Well maybe you will be of some use.” Asiya smiled as she went to bite a few leaves.

Regulus continued to walk East, his heart slowly beating within his chest. Part of him longed to go hunt for some food for himself, but the other part, the part dedicated to his duty as a travelling healer simply wouldn't allow him to leave a mission unfinished.

Slightly distracted by his thoughts Regulus nearly missed the distinct sound of rustling near by, almost as if someone had stumbled. His head automatically turned in the direction of the disturbance as he tried to identify the source. It didn't take him long, for the creature seemed to glow like the moon in the fading light. It appeared to be a unicorn foal..... for they were a lot smaller than a grown one. Less cautious now, since he believed that no unicorn could ever intentially do harm, he approached.

"Are you ok?" He asked softly in an effort not to spook her, the only time that Regulus seemed to have any tact was when he was talking 'business' in more social situtations he sucked, not having a clue what to do or say. But perhaps that was an advantage? After all it gave him something to blame... like by the mare he loved had left him without a backwards glance, it still ached like an open wound on his heart.

Then Regulus allowed himself to take in the situation, his eyes noting the slight dash of red on her rear leg. So she had cut herself somehow. Easy enough to fix, and since she was a unicorn he was sure she would heal quickly even without his assistance, but perhaps he could help make her more comfortable. That was when his eyes saw the plant that she had been eating from. "No." he breathed, panic starting to fill his blood system with adrenaline. He raced forward, placing his tail in her way of the bush, he tried to keep his voice calm but he knew he needed to act quickly. "Spit any of that plant out that may remain in your mouth.... NOW!" Posion and an open wound... never a good combination.

Asiya had barely managed to get her mouth around a few of the dark leaves when a voice cried out from no where. She was so startled that her mouth fell open causing the leaves to fall into the night wind. Had she been able to stand at the moment, the little Minicorn would have taken off into the woods but that stupid cut hadn’t healed completely yet.

Instead Asiya remained where she was and just locked eyes with the darkness around her. The voice had to have come from somewhere, now the question was where?

“Whose there?” Asiya finally called out in her soft voice. Looking was getting her no where so this was the next best thing. “Please, what is this leaf then?”

"It's ok little one... my name is Regulus, and if you will let me I can help you with the cut on your leg. I am a unicorn as well." Since Regulus couldn't see the small unicorn's face he was still assuming that she was a foal. "Do not fear..." He tried to sooth as he cautiously took another step and then another towards her.

As he started to speak again he focused his power, allowing it to build up within him and rise towards his horn. "Just hold still a moment....." And with that he lowered his horn to touch her for a moment. Direct contact wasn't actually needed, but it did make the process quicker. Once he was satisfied he stepped back and smiled down at her. "There you go little one.... all healed."

It was only then that Regulus realised he had neglected to answer her question.... he cursed his social awkwardness. "Em.... that leaf..... it's a poison.... often used by Kalona's." Since he was still under the impression that she was a foal he didn't go into too much detail on the herb and it's effects.

For a moment, all Asiya could see was a tall, dark figure coming towards her in the dark. Stories and memories of the two legged beings from her home world started to rush into her mind but was quickly shot out again when she realized two very important things: One, this stallion spoke clearly to her and Two, there were four legs. Was this one of the Soquilli they had heard about? And what had he called himself? A unicorn?

As if to answer her mental question, a glowing horn appeared from the darkness and touched head. If he could see her face, the stallion called Regulus would have seen a look of thanks and of confusion. For injuries such as her own, Asiya normally had to make direct contact with the area. He just had touched her and…

Her shining pink eyes glanced down in shock. A single touch and the wound was healed! That had only been done on their foals and here he had helped her so quickly! To say she was impressed would have been an understatement.

“My thanks, Great Regulus.” Asiya formally thanked him with a radiant smile on her face as she went to stand again. “Your skill is a blessing and your time, impeccable.” He was tall and it strained her neck to look upwards at him but still she smiled as night air moved around them. “But by chance could you tell me more about this plant? I have never seen it before. And who is Kalona?”

Regulus's cheeks burnt in a brilliant flush, he had never been call 'the great' before... and was unsure how to take it. He knew his social skills often left to be desired, but his healing and bed side manner where impeciable.... after all, that had been his goal in life. To be a great healer. The best. To be adept at healing both physical alliments and diseases, perhaps even consider mental illnesses if they lay within a physical boundary. Of course, Regulus knew you couldn't save everyone.... no matter how much you long to, something he knew all too well.

For a moment his heart ached but he pushed the feeling aside when the small mare asked about the plant. He was good at talking about his trade, believing that teaching others would help them in their own paths and destinies.... after all, fate had brought him to this spot had it not?!

With a soft smile he nodded, "Of course little one," he still believed the mare to be a foal and so didn't want to scare her too much. "This plant is often called by it's nickname.... 'Deaths embrace'. It is a poison that slowly shuts down the body, but in small doses it makes you sick.... very sick." In truth it slowly caused all the internal organs and cells to eat themselves.... this was the reason Kalona's favoured it, a painful way to cause your enermies to die. Of course to achieve death you needed to consume alot, and often over multiple intakes rather than a single dose. But a single small dose could make you sick, and was believed to have the power to abort an unwanted pregnancy.

As the innocences of the mare became clear Regulus couldn't help but beam down at her. "Kalona's are a breed.... they are the beasts that live in the shadows. Hunting and killing." In an effort not to scare her he lowered his head towards her, looked around playfully, before looking her in the eye with a soft wink. "But fear not. There are not out to play this night."

Part of Regulus's mind registered that the mares dilect and wording was not that of a foal.... but since he had no knowledge of minicorns he simply believed he was wrong in thinking her older for even a moment.
