If your genuine positions are so ridiculous that people confuse them for parody, it's time to rethink those positions.
Alternately, work to present them in a way so arduous/well-argued, as to obfuscate what you believe to most people.
Fact, I could tell everyone I thought the best system of governance was by complete autocracy, because the position is so juxtaposed to most ED'ers, people will assume I'm trolling or disregard it unless I make a strong case when I do so (fortunately, I am aware of autocracy's failings).
It is a misfortune that opinions outside the mainstream are so marginalised but people are naturally conservative* when it comes to hearing a view they find abnormal and indeed, will only falter once they've heard enough to make them do so.

I admit I am twisting the word conservative here. The position in which I am using it (is because I can't find a better word) is that people will expect a conformity to their ideals and reject non-conformity.
