This is just a simple-to- intermediate guide to exchanging, market price of items will always fluctuate, you have been warned…Ahem, ahem, Hello there! Raven here and here is my guide to exchanging. No, not vending, exchanging. These are just the basics, a way to help the poor become much better-off, not exactly rich but comfy enough to buy the newest REI/EI or MC without worrying about whether there is enough gold leftover for a new outfit.Vending = Buying items in the market and selling them off at a profit, in the market, of course. Exchanging = Buying items from The Gaia Exchange then selling it off in the market for profit. And then you have the hoarders, but this is a guide for exchanging, so we’ll skip that part. Anyways, Exchanging is a fairly simple process, take for example: A needs money fast and she/he has a few unused items which can be sold off to make up just enough to buy a new outfit. So A proceeds to sell the items off much cheaper than market price in The Gaia Exchange and gets the money faster. This is where the exchanger comes in. E(exchanger) buys item from A then sells item on marketplace, A is happy with quick cash and E gets a profit. E is akin to a real-world middleman.

Exchanging Etiquette: 1. Don’t be a p***k. Sending pms begging from exchangers will only result in being ignored. 2. Do not ask for market price if you are selling in The Gaia Exchange(I learnt this the hard way) 3. Lowball and everyone will undercut you as well. There is no way I’m selling an Angelic Scarf for 11mil if market price is 13.6m nor buying from you if your asking price is lmp, guild mate or not. Reasonable profit margin of items: 80k-100k items --- straight 10k profit at least. 100k-300k ----- 20k-50k profit 350-600k ----- 40k-60k profit 700k and up --- 60k-100k profit and up. 1000k and up --- 70-100k profit and up depending on the item. Disclaimer: these are the profit margins I usually confine myself to. There are certain cases in which these rules do not apply though. Look below. Hard To Sells (HTS) ---These babies have the highest profit margins, the reason being that your cash is being held dormant for a period of time by the item. Examples are: Kanoko’s Dark Reflection, Mercury’s Moon, Zomg Hoodie, SDPlus dolls etc. Lowballs are sometimes accepted on them. Items Massively Hoarded --- OHMIGAWSH EVERYONE HAS ONE OF THESE! OMG OMG OMG I HAVE GOT TO HAVE ONE! Take The Case Of Pietro 1st gen. My friend hoarded them, when it finished evolving the prices plummeted like a rock. Too much supply, too little demand. Another recent example are the Zodiacals. When the February evolution came out, they jumped from 1mil to 2mil within a week and since then have been going downhill from Mid-March. The best bet is to sell these items quickly. Zomg Summons --- Stay very far away. After the Zomg mega-nerf I should think that all the good fast-earning gold players have very well left it. I know I have. The new players that are playing zomg may not be many, thus old players intending to sell off their summons may find themselves in a cinch, especially those fluff summons owners *shiver* Zomg rings --- Honestly, who wants to buy stuff they can get in-game for free? Unless they happen to be the Special Event Rings (Fortune Favor and Sweetheart). Darn I haven’t sold my fortune favour yet…

Tips for Exchangers 1. Please check the marketprice before offering. 1st gens always cost more than their later counterparts. 2. For Pete’s sake don’t put a Buying thread in The Gaia Exchange unless you happen to be selling something at the same time, that goes to the Wanted section. Please don’t emulate the behaviour of idiots. 3. Check the marketplace graphs to see if the items are artificially inflating. Some items that frequently AI are Bear Pyjamas and Mona the Platypus. 4. For newly released MCs, most people choose to buy the higher-priced item than the letter just because they don’t realise that the item comes from the letter. For a quick 5k-15k profit, you can buy those letters from the marketplace, open them and sell the item in marketplace. 5. There are many beggars and scammers in The Gaia Exchange, do not click on any random links sent to you/ posted on your exchange thread. Don’t enter your password into the pop-ups either (The spate of pop-ups have lessened after IP adds were introduced). 6. Don’t put “2007 Exchanger” or “Completed Devil Tail Quest” in your signature. Sure, everyone wants to show-off every now and then but you’re just letting others know you are worth hacking. 7. Make a Microsoft Excel list to keep track of your purchases, unless you happen to be exchanging in small amounts only. Most of the above is really just common sense really. After a few times exchanging, you will get more comfortable with the market upheavals. Always remember, you will always feel insecure about your investments, there will always be doubts.(Unless you have a sixth-sense) The only thing predictable about humans is that humans are unpredictable, to a certain extent. There will definitely be a few losses but we all learn.
