Wow, I gotta say this: No film this year has amazed me more than this one has. I love the Planet of the Apes films, even the 2001 remake (Yes, I did just say that) and this one did not dissappoint.

In this film, A new drug is being tested that could help restore brain cells and cure numerous nuerological disorders. The test subjects are chimpanzees. After one of them breaks out of its cage, goes on an agressive rampage and is killed, one of the scientists, Will (played by James Franco) discovers that the ape was only aggressive because it was defending her secretly born child (later named Caesar). Will takes Caesar home and later finds out that Caesar has inherited the same intelligence as his mother. But after an incident involving Will's father (John Lithgow), Caesar is taken away to a facility where other apes are locked up. But seeing the mistreatment of the others and himself, Caesar breaks out of his cage, steals some of the drug that Will made and unleashes it amongst his primate cohorts making them smarter and allowing them to escape, leading to an exciting battle between the apes and the police force on the golden gate bridge.

I like how the apes are portrayed more realistically then they've been in the other films. Not only are they believable but they can be pretty terrifying as well (this movie will more than likely give Tim Burton nightmares) And the human actors are done rather well, I think James Franco is starting to become one of my new favorite actors. There is one character though who kinda got on my nerves, he's pretty much the token a-hole who likes to tease and mistreat the apes. However he does get what he deserves (Part of that scene I think will end up becoming a new meme)

So final thoughts: It's got great acting, good action, surprising emotion, awesome special effects, all and all: A great film and a step in the right direction. I can't wait to see more of them.

Final Rating: 9/10

And yes, they do use the "Take Your Stinkin' Paws Off Me You Damn Dirty Ape" line in case you were wondering.
