The head of the Elf house sat in his office looking over some papers, mostly just looking over his student roster. It really hadn't changed since last year but it was still nice to go over before they all arrived. Varick glanced at the clock on the wall, they should be arriving now. He had gotten to the school two days ago just to go around his house to make sure nothing needed to be fixed or repaired or restocked. After going through the stack he allowed the papers to return to the drawer where he kept them. Better to put them back then let them clutter his desk. With a sigh he got up and went over to his ingrediants cabinet and took out a few things before taking up a glass and mixing the hand full of things. Swirling the glass he examined it before adding one more drop and it turned a crystal clear blue. Varick gave a small smile before drinking the liquid. It wasn't anything magical, just a drink.

Varick paused when he heard he knock on the door. Removing his wand, the former professor gave it a flick opening the door. "It's open Arthur," he said recognizing the knock instantly. He recalled back when he was the potions master and Arthur was a student, the boy spent as much of his free time in the class as he could. Even going as far as sitting in on the advanced classes during his free period during his second year. No wonder the boy was just a natural when it came to potions. Either way, Varick saw just as much of his student now as he did back then. Since there were some things the young teacher couldn't get his hands on, hell some of the things were hard for varick to get a hold of given relativly young age.

Varick gave a small smile before his face resumed it's usual unemotional expression. "Quite well actually," he said walking back over to the desk and taking a seat. "I found some interesting items while cleaning out the attic... some old books with some unusual potions recipies in them..." Once again he took out his wand and the books in question came floating over and landed on the desk. Both looked like they were ready to fall apart if you even blinked at them. "Some of the writing has faded to almost nothing... though the ones that have persevered are quite interesting..." another movement of the wand and one of the books opened to a page. Some of the ingrediants listed were hard to come by even back when these were written.

Varick once again gave a small smile to his former student. "Just as excitable as when you were back in classes," he recalled how Arthur would be when he gave the boy a new recipe, always seemed so anxious to try it out. "I will let you know what I come across as I restore the books." In all honest he was counting on the potions teacher to see about making some of these and seeing how they turned out. Who knows, if all goes well they could put the two together in one book.

"You will have those students Arthur, every year you will have some of them. It's a matter of what you do for them and with them and how you keep them from blowing up your classroom." The former teacher recalled a time before Arthur came to the school, when one of his second years mixed the wrong amount and he had to hold his classes in a spare room for a few days until his classroom was cleaned, repaired, and refurbished.

Varick couldn't help but chuckle at the american's name. "Well, he must have some ammount of talent for potions if he has yet to do that in his five years here..." Even though the american wasn't in his house, he was well aware of the blond. Also because Alfred's first year at the school was Varick's last year as the Potions Master. So he knows full well how the American is.

Now that was the proper attitude, Varick smiled yet again at his student's outlook on his own students. "So, how was your vacation?" he asked. It was probably more eventful than his own.
