Please don't be afraid t' post yer works on deck! Whether ye be new or feel yer a veteran of bad criticism, We be open t' yer work.
(I'll post the format for the formal art critique in a few minutes for those who may want to use it or at least learn it.)

IRL me and my friend BORN-TO-DIE. He's so much hotter than I can draw him. I'm not good with the male figure. But I'm working at it.

(Work in Progress) This is Ni'a Coonda. She's half Dracoonian (racoon), half Pandai (panda). I plan to do a whole story for her. I may post her mini-backstory later.

I totally <3 Ni'a. She's adorable and her markings look awesome. As for the manga - you can kind of go between styles, and play around a bit. There is no rule saying that each issue needs to look the same. wink

Ya know...I never thought of it that way, Cap'n. Whenever I feel there is a different tone to portray, I can change the style. heart Thanx, Cap'n...ma'am. xd
Thank you for the compliment, Jill!!! I always appreciate feedback on my artwork.

Hee hee. Me, as a mermaid. The result of boredom and two hours in front of my computer, poking around in Photoshop 7.0 Both photos used are my own.
Here's the story behind the art: Dusk falls on the mermaid lagoon. The diluted saltwater will retain the day's warmth for a few hours, at least. Their eyelids grown heavy, many of the aquatic beings seek solace on rocks, or below in beds of seaweed. The gulls have stopped their squawking, the tropical birds quieted and tucked away in swaying palm trees. It is a lazy scene, peaceful...
But she has heard a noise. Fond of faerie tales, she imagines a great beast lurking just beyond the treeline, waiting to feast on tender mermaid flesh. Her friends would laugh, splashing her with effervescent fins and webbed hands, telling her to stop being such a silly child. There are no such things as monsters. But the shiver running down her spine tells her otherwise.

I LOVE IT!!!! It's so exquisite! You did an absolute awesome job with this. And I really like your usage of a mini-backstory for the image. Always a nice touch. heart

Thank you. <3 It was fun to do.
All of my drawings or art creations have a story behind them. This one may have a whole book. xd My boyfriend, Phil, has been telling me for months that I should write and illustrate a children's book... and this one sparked an idea. Once I flesh it out a little more I'll share it if anyone's interested. wink ... but I wouldn't be able to do the whole thing in photomanips. Because I'd have to shoot so many photos, and get other people to pose for me, and eventually my hair and appearance would change (my hair is already a different color - darker, so changing it to the right shade of green would be difficult)... bah. It would be fun, though, to try that some day. I don't think I've ever seen a children's book filled with photomanipulations. blaugh

I'm interested!!!
And I'll buy the book! Agreed, I've never seen a children's book with photomanipulations. I'm sure children would be mesmorized by them! 3nodding

Awww. <3 Hee hee. Thanks.
Phil is now trying to convince me that I should write the story now, and then over the summer we'll work on the photographs together. xd He's such an optimist (usually). We'll see. ^-^ I'll write the story, anyway... maybe come out with some sketches so I know what I'll need for photos.
There's one woman who does cool faerie photography, with staged shots in costume and make-up.. but those aren't photomanips. And it's a book about faeries that she's made, not an actual story.

Strangely, I don't. Probably because she's based on me, so that wasn't a thought process as I was creating the piece. Usually, a name surfaces while I'm working on a character. Possibly "Annen'ua (Ah-nen-oo-a)" .. which was the name for this mermaid here: Calling Forth the Ocean's Beasts

If this is going to be a children's book, it is best to stick to names they won't have a fit trying to pronounce.
If it is going to be towards older readers that name is great! I love the idea. I would really like to see it come into fruition. 3nodding
