Opelucid City
User Image

User Image

DESCRIPTION -
Opelucid City, 'Time's Dividing Line', is known for being one of the oldest-standing Cities in the Unova region. Its natural, stone-crafted appearance gives off the look of an (almost)ancient City. In addition to its 'natural' beauty, Opelucid boasts a good few attractions: the Opelucid City Gym(the final one in Unova), the famed Battle House, and the intricate Tubeline Bridge. Opelucid also serves as a Trainer's final stop on their way to the Pokemon League in Unova...next to Victory Road, of course.

LOCATION -
Opelucid City is located in central-northern Unova, with three ways to get into the City: Route 9 to the west, Route 10 to the north, and Route 11 to the east.

PEOPLE -
The people here in Opelucid are quite knowledgeable about the history of the Unova region. If you've got a desire to learn some history, then this is definitely the place to do it.

RESOURCES/EVENTS/PLACES OF INTEREST -
Opelucid City Gym - Opelucid City houses the 8th and final known Gym in the Unova League. Recommended to the position by the city's mayor - Drayden -, Lauri Sunderson is the Gym Leader here in Opelucid, and her knowledge as a Dragon-type specialist isn't any kind of laughing matter. She awards the Bishop Badge(and TM82, Dragon Tail) to those that can best her in battle.

Battle House - Tucked away near the Gym, Opelucid's Battle House specializes in showing Trainers of all types the basics for the two newest forms of battling: Triple Battle and Rotation Battle. Best to have your wits about you, eh?

Tubeline Bridge - Tubeline Bridge connects Opelucid City to the rest of the Unova region; it has a reputation for being 'Unova's famous railway bridge'. Rumor has it that, on Friday nights, a group of Bikers take over the bridge; best of luck with them. If you happen to look down, you can see a few lines of the Battle Subway running underneath the Bridge.

Shopping Mall Nine - Located just outside the City limits, on Route 9, Shopping Mall Nine is the single biggest store in all of Unova, stocking everything from the mundane - washing machines, groceries - to the fantastical - a wide range of TMs, Poke Balls of all shapes and sizes. A few patrons of the store, as well as some employees, will gladly battle you here, and it's been said that one of the many storage rooms in the Mall holds the secret to transforming a certain plasmatic ghost . . .

MYTH/LORE -
As stated above, the people of Opelucid City are quite knowledgeable of the region's history, and by proxy, that includes the legends of Unova. Maybe you could get a few ideas of Unova's history...?

It had been a good day. The Moor of Icirrus was an interesting place to study. It had been through a pretty big wildfire, but now you could see where new trees were reaching for the sky. Despite the new growth, however, the only pokémon that had been reported to have returned were mud and water dwellers. Things were beginning to shift though. There was a flock of pidove that had stayed around all day, shelmet hunting in the shallow regions of the swamp, and it wasn’t unusual for recovery to start with flyers. Jessie would have to come back later, see if this was just an odd day out, but it would be cool if life really was coming back here and she was the first to report it! It really had been a good day.

However, ‘had’ was the key word in that statement.

Eventually the sun sank low in the sky and Jessie knew she had better leave the swamp unless she felt like wading through mud in the dark. Mud was okay, but at night mud was cold and in the dim light she might mistake a stunfisk for a stepping stone, which would not be enjoyable, so she began the slog out of the deeper reaches of the moor. Seeing as the moor exit was one bridge and a road away from Opelucid City, she decided to head there for the night rather than perform the extra swamp-slogging required to get back to Iccirus. Instead of swamp-slogging, however, she got stuck trainer-slogging, which was worse than swamp-slogging. One would think that when one was soaked to the skin and covered in a gradient of mud from face splotches to caked boots, one would not be bothered by trainers as they made their way through town, but Jessie was dealing with her fourteenth, fifteenth, and sixteenth challengers for the walk. This was worse than the kids training for taking on the Opelucid Gym Leader however…This time it was a group of roughnecks looking for a payoff or a green smooch from the cute waterlogged girl. The looks she had been getting had made her wonder if her light-colored shirt had gone transparent from the water, but her green jacket was firmly covering anything important, so she had come to the conclusion that the miscreants here just liked their girls wet, not exactly noticing how form-fitting the hydrogen and oxygen combination had made the rest of her clothes…

Now she found herself sprinting through Opelucid’s back streets, thoroughly lost, clambering over and around anything that would buy her some distance from the idiots chasing her. “Hey, didn’t you hear me the first time? I’m not interested!” Despite her protests, the leader of the creeps was smirking. Three studded black jackets revealed three pokeballs, and three red flashes became two scraggy and a scrafty chasing her with the better agility that pokémon have, though the humans weren’t far behind. Unfortunately this wasn’t her day: she hit a dead end with a wall she couldn’t climb, so it would come down to the fight she had been avoiding. Kazu would be at a huge type disadvantage, where Thetis would have the problems of a fish out of water. Lyris had caught the bad end of some rock attacks earlier so probably shouldn’t be in another fight. She could just hop on Andreas’ head while he slithered over and past the problem, but she couldn’t exactly pay for the damage that would cause to the city. All together, that left her two unlikely options. She went for the one with the lesser disadvantage. As the scrapper evolutions came around the corner, her hand dropped to where her pokegear was clipped to her belt. “Hey Z, time to fry a few bugs.” The porygon, however, appeared out of her pokegear only to take one look at the advancing ‘army’ and warp off to who-knows-where. “Some help you are…” But it was about what she expected, so she reached back again, this time her hand resting on an all-white premier ball. < < Time to go Xia. > > Jessie felt a second presence within her mind as the gardevoir reached outside her ball to use the professor’s eyes and mind to understand the moment. Then the ball opened, a whirlwind of sharp-edged leaves preceeding the pokémon’s appearance and flying at the scrappers.

Jessie crossed her fingers that someone else would take notice, because this wasn’t Xia’s first fight of the evening, and it had been a long day. If this kept up, rock-snake riding was going to start looking cheap.

User Image ~>: Lauri Sunderson :<~
-Opelucid City Gym Leader-
-Dragon-type Specialist-

(( coming from: Icirrus City ))

User Image Fortunately, the girl named 'Jessie' was in luck - having had her fill of drinking, and listening to drunken renditions of every Sgt. Pelipper's song that was even imaginable, Lauri was using the back-alleys of Opelucid City to return to her Gym(unlike her sister, the elder Sunderson wasn't very fond of crowds). "Hm?" As she rounded a corner, the silver-haired Gym Leader heard a bit of a ruckus that wasn't far off, and sure enough, three studded jackets from the Tubeline Bridge were chasing a black-haired young woman(Jessie).

"Well, then." As Gym Leader, she was partly responsible for keeping the Roughnecks in check - one pop of an Ultra Ball later, and Lauri was joined by a three-headed creature(Tsubaki, her Hydreigon). "Tsubaki, dear, would you kindly show those jackets the way out of the City?" She pointed a gloved black finger towards the trio of Roughnecks advancing on Jessie with their pokemon.

Tsubaki's main head sported a fanged grin. 'Dreiaggh~^^' Moments later, the twilight sky above Opelucid City was alight with large jagged chunks of energy, as the Brutal Pokemon lived up to her name, sending the three jackets - and their pokemon - running back to Tubeline Bridge with a well-aimed Draco Meteor.

"The next time you show up in my City, I'll make sure my pokemon don't miss!" she shouted after their retreating forms, dusting herself off slightly.

Tsubaki mimicked this motion just behind her Trainer, dusting herself off with her head-hands. 'Dreiaggh :<'

"You did good, girl." Patting the Hydreigon's side, Lauri turned her attention to the black-haired young woman(again, Jessie). "Those guys didn't hurt you, did they?" She offered a friendly smile. "I was visiting some friends in nearby Icirrus, and those jackets like to show up when I'm not in the City."

Jessie was mentally scrabbling together some plan of attack/escape when she heard the crackling in the sky. For half a second her mind admired the rare occurrence of meteors audible and visible this early into dusk, but then the rest of her mind caught up with the result of the trajectory calculations. “Oh, crap!” They were not distant fireballs for entertaining astronomers: these were actual burning rocks coming her way. Of course, by the time this was obvious, there was only time to duck and hope they weren’t going to land on you. Then several chunks of burning rock hit the ground, and Jessie closed her eyes against the flying material. “Xia!”

When the dust began to clear, Jessie was happy to see her gardevoir still standing, though it surprised her that the psychic seemed so unconcerned until a new figure became visible, dusting herself off as she stepped into the space that had been rapidly vacated by the roughnecks. Well, that was lucky… As she wandered over to see who the new arrival was, she spared a glance both at the now-empty sky and the slightly smoking crater that formed a few feet ahead of where Xia had been standing.

Now that she was closer, Jessie could get a better look at the woman who had chased the goons off. The silver haired female wore a thin sword at her side and was patting a hydreigon. That explains the rain of rocks... Jessie smiled at the pair. “Thanks for that.” The new woman then asked the obvious question. “Nah…we’re okay. We just seem to be popular targets tonight…” She thought back to the group of trainers that had challenged her on the walk. She didn’t mind giving the ones getting ready for their next gym badge some practice, but guys like the ones that had been chasing her were just annoying. It took her a second of thought to work out why this woman’s absence would be associated with the presence of the roughnecks, seeing as cities could usually lose and gain a few competent trainers without anyone noticing, but then it clicked. “and now you get stuck cleaning up after them…fun… hope the locals appreciate it.” She held her hand out for the shaking. “Nice to meet you, I’m Jessie.”

User Image "I'm Lauri." Nodding, the silver-hared Gym Leader took Jessie's proffered hand, shaking it. "As I'm sure you know by now, I'm the Gym Leader here in Opelucid." She nodded to where Tsubaki effortlessly hovered above the ground next to her, and the Brutal Pokemon let out a proud-sounding 'Dreiaggh~!'. "This here is Tsubaki, my Hydreigon."

She then heard Jessie's comment about the City locals 'appreciating' cleaning up after her messes, and couldn't help but chuckle. "Being in a Dragon-type City like this, people around here are actually used to the destruction from my pokemon." She gave the black-haired woman a nervous smile, scratching the side of her face. "Comes with the territory, etc."

"So." Lauri gave Jessie a curious look. "What brings you to Opelucid?"

When Lauri mentioned that she was the gym leader, Jessie shrugged and nodded that she had figured that much out. Then when the woman introduced her hydreigon, the professor smiled to the dragon. “I’m guessing you’re the one with the cosmically good aim?” Then she introduced her own partner. “And since she hasn’t introduced herself, this is Xia, the one and only.” The gardevoir gave a shallow bow.

Jessie chuckled at the gym leader’s nervous look when the latter mentioned the city being used to the mess dragon attacks made. “I know how that goes… Usually I only so much as release my onyx, and I get landed with the charges for pavement damage.” Dang, why is it I always end up having to pay for the holes he puts in the pavement? It was a rhetorical question, but Xia was tired and wasn’t about to pass up the chance to poke a little fun at her trainer in the thought-space they shared. Because you’re not a gym leader? The sense the psychic sent along with that statement said more though. ‘Not a gym leader’ was given the connotation of a soggy, lab-less professor that was basically one step off the bottom of the academic totem pole. She wasn’t anyone’s assistant, but there was still a lot of room to go up. Yeah, probably. Some would have snapped, but Jessie just gave the thought a mental equivalent of a smirk.

She was working on it, and that made standing here, soggy and muddy, in front of the top gym leader of Unova, who barely showed any sign of the journey from Icirrus, much easier. She even smiled when Lauri asked her why she had come to Opelucid. “Research, actually.” She spread her arms out wide for a second to highlight the mess she had made of her clothes. “Spent most of the day in the Moor of Iccirus, seeing what the place looks like after the fire. A lot of how an area regrows after a fire depends on how pokémon return to it, and the Moor is kind of odd because pokémon seem to be doubly reluctant to go back, so there’s a lot less growth. When it came time to head for somewhere to spend the night, walking on a road for a change sounded better then the swamp-swimming it would have taken to get back to Icirrus.”

[[OOC: Actually I had meant that Lauri has to clean up after the invading roughs, but this works too...
And sorry if this is being lame...It's taking me a bit to get going]]

User Image ~>: Lauri Sunderson :<~

User Image "I can sympathize with that." Lauri couldn't help but laugh a little. "Icirrus is my home-town; Navigating those swamps in the Moor just to make your way to-and-from Icirrus is another matter entirely, isn't it?" She fell silent for a moment or two, reminiscing back to her days as a mere Trainer, where she didn't have her Dragon-type pokemon to help her navigate the Moor. Corvair(her shiny Serperior) didn't like the 'ickiness' of the Moor at all. Lauri, however, thought it was rather amusing.

Tsubaki - meanwhile - was quite pleased when the black-haired human mentioned her 'cosmically-good' aim. 'Dreiaggh~^^' She puffed her chest out proudly, her six ribbon-like wings fluttering about on her back.

"And I'm gonna guess that spending the night in a City is even more preferrable than spending it walking on a road - much less the nearby Bridge--" She was referring to Tubeline Bridge, of course. "--which is riddled with those biker idiots." As Gym Leader, Lauri was partly responsible for making sure that the 'biker idiots' stayed out of Opelucid. Since they made their way in again, she'd probably hear from Drayden - the City's mayor - sooner or later.

But that could be saved for later. For now? "Come on." Waving for Jessie to follow, Lauri made her way out of the side-street the two were on, Tsubaki hovering along behind the small group. "Least I could do is show you where the Center is, right?" She offered Jessie and Xia(her Gardevoir) a friendly smile.

On the topic of taking long walks in the Moor, Jessie smirked and nodded her agreement. “Marshes are cool, but after a while the slogging is just ridiculous.” It was one of those things that was almost impossible to get used to. Too wet for Andreas to be happy, not wet enough for Thetis. Probably the only pokémon who liked it was Kazu, who really needed a bath right now. She had jumped straight out of the muck when the rushing pokémon had popped out absolutely covered…no white stripes to be seen…it had taken a second to realize it wasn’t an ekans or croagunk jumping her…

The gym leader looked pretty clean for having wandered through the marsh though. “I’m guessing you flew from Iccirus?” Tsubaki could probably have done it if none of the woman’s other pokemon could…and the professor definitely noticed the dragon’s response to her complement. It seemed they were in the company of one of the world's nicer dragons.

As the woman continued talking about how spending the night in the city would be nicer than spending it where they stood, a breeze made Jessie shiver, and she looked down at her own clothes, right down to her muddy boots. That makes two of us in need of a bath… It was easy to forget that you were wet and the air was getting colder when you were running from a group of creeps, but now that she was just standing there… brrr …She quickly fell into step with the woman. “Yeah, that would be nice actually.” Xia yawned and Jessie held out the premier ball she had opened earlier, but the gardevoir just gestured that it was okay and Jessie shrugged. The psychic seemed curious about the gym leader. “Spending a night walking…I’ve done that a few times…” < < A few times? > > Xia interjected, this time letting her ‘voice’ be heard by all. “Okay, fine, more than a few times…” Jessie corrected with a laugh, looking pointedly at Xia. “…and I’d still rather sleep in the mud!” Sleep was nice, really nice.

User Image "That I did." Lauri nodded, answering Jessie's question as the two walked. "As much as I love the sonic-boom effect that happens whenever I fly around with him, I decided to let Cid take a bit of a rest." Cid was, of course, Lauri's Dragonite - he, along with Yuna(Lauri's Dragonair) was/were the proud result of who-knows-how many hours of fishing at the Dragonspiral Tower.

Almost as if on cue, Tsubaki puffed out her chest proudly again. 'Dreiaggh~!!' It was almost as if she was saying that she could out-fly the orange Dragon Pokemon anytime, anywhere.

Ahh~, Dragon-type pseudo-legends.

The faint hint of a smile could be seen on Lauri's lips, as the Opelucid Pokemon Center came into view. "I suppose being a Professor comes with the fun of sleeping in the wild sometimes, hunh?" She glanced over her shoulder at Jessie, awaiting an answer.

The smile that first formed on Jessie’s face had much to do with flying fast. Lauri’s ‘Cid’ (which Jessie assumed was another flying dragon, but couldn’t know was a dragonite) wasn’t the only one who could go that fast. When the professor wanted to get somewhere fast, she pulled out her pidgeot Lyris, who was always more than willing to see how little time she could make the trip take. The fastest she had clocked the bird at was around mach 2…

The smile then shifted over into a chuckle when Tsubaki seemed to suggest he could outfly this ‘Cid’ any day of the week. Dragons were interesting…cool to be around, but proud like nothing else.

Where the gym leader had figured out that she was a professor, Jessie didn’t know…usually, even after she mentioned she was working, people took her to be an assistant of some other prof…but this way was far easier. Sometime she had to hit people on the head with it if she wanted to get any sort of respect. “Yeah, and for me more often than for many… Everything I want to know is on the other side of some hill or ocean, and I don’t have a lab full of assistants, so all that’s left is to get my butt out there and get messy!” The words might make it sound like she would rather dump the work off on some underling, but the twinkle in her eyes held a different story. She could have settled down, taken up a research track that didn’t leave her covered in muck at the end of the day, but after fifteen years on the road, waking up in the same place day after day to stare at a computer screen would get really old really fast.

“How about you, ever get back to your trainer roots and snooze in the dirt again?” Jessie had never really looked at how gym leaders managed…How much did they have to stay in their city?

User Image "When I get a chance to." Laughing a bit, Lauri led the way into the Opelucid Pokemon Center(the two women, along with their pokemon, had reached their destination while they were conversing). "Or when my sister drags me along on one of her 'adventures'." Her laugh faded into a small chuckle. "Naomi - my sister - was always the more adventurous one, compared to me." She tapped her chin in thought. "I wonder if that's got something to do with her type specialty - Naomi's a Water-typer." Maybe it did, maybe it didn't. "Oh, well." She shrugged. "No real point in figuring it out now, right?" With that, Lauri settled down onto a nearby bench, giving Jessie ample room to do whatever she needed to.

From the eastern entrance of Opelucid City, a fair-skinned man with glasses made his way inward, towards the city's Pokemon Center. "Mmh, it's been a fairly pleasant day so far..." he said, glancing down at the Pansage accompanying him, which replied with an affectionate "Pansage-Pan!!" The spectacled man chuckled lightly as they continued onward. "Such lovely weather, too. Bright sunshine, the gentle breeze blowing through the woods, the huge meteors that landed right in the middle of town...." The man's voice trailed off as he thought about his last statement. "Wait, meteors falling? That's not too common, is it?" With that in mind, the slender male and his grass monkey scurried towards the center of town. A moment or two later, they saw a large crater in the city's street, and they both blinked simultaneously in confusion. "Wh-What the--?" Just then, the Pansage tugged on his trainer's pants leg and pointed off in a different direction, towards the PokeCenter. The man turned to look, and saw none other than Lauri Sunderson, the city's Gym Leader, sitting on a nearby bench, along with her Hydreigon and another woman that he didn't recognize. He quirked a curious eyebrow, then slowly marched towards the two females. "Uh... H-Hey, L-Lauri..." he said sheepishly. "What's, uh... What's goin' on a-around here?"

To say he's shy would be an understatement...

User Image As Lauri was settling onto one of the Pokemon Center's many benches - Tsubaki(her Hydreigon) hovering behind her -, a familiar voice reached her ears. "Who in...?" Quirking a thin silver eyebrow, she was - needless to say - a bit surprised as to who her teal-hued eyes fell on. "Hey, Forrest - long time, no see." Giving him a friendly smile, she waved in greeting. "How's the glamorous life of a Gym Leader treating you?" More-than-likely, Jessie was probably situating herself for the night, now that she was in a building(instead of out in the Moor of Icirrus).

As Lauri chuckled over getting dragged along on adventures, Jessie couldn’t help joining in. Okay, so she was usually the one doing the dragging, but she knew how those sort of adventures went. She wasn’t convinced that a water type trainer would be more adventurous than a dragon trainer however. “Eh, I think you have to be pretty adventurous to train dragons too…but that might just be a different type of adventurous…” She shrugged, then agreed with a nod that it didn’t really matter anyways.

Rather than join Lauri and make the bench all muddy, she remained on her feet as she debated which of the center’s facilities to make use of first. Before those thoughts got far, however, a bespectacled man with a pansage walked up and said hi to Lauri. Seeing the two go off on a conversation, Jessie decided to take the chance to get clean and get her team taken care of. “I’ll be back, just going to put on some clothes with less mud attached.” Shouldn’t be hard to find some garments fitting that description considering how covered the ones she currently had on were, and that should give the two some time to chat. After dropping Lyris off with Nurse Joy, she headed off for the bathroom, where she dug out a clean set of clothes, grabbed an open shower, and let Kazu out so the both of them could lose some dirt.

While Jessie was busy getting soaked, Xia stayed behind, taking up the seat on the bench that had been set aside for Jessie with a contented sigh. It had been a while since she had gotten that much of a workout, but she was too interested in everything going on to just disappear. < < A friend of yours? > > She asked Lauri. She could have looked into the woman’s mind and found out, but when she wasn’t in immediate danger, she preferred to ask before poking around.

NACRENE CITY GYM LEADER

Forrest gave a weak smile to the unfamiliar woman, waving to her hesitantly as she walked off to do her business. Her Gardevoir stayed behind, but that didn't bother him as much. At least, not as much as the three-headed dragon hovering behind Lauri. The Grass-typer chuckled nervously and rubbed the back of his head, a bit surprised that Lauri actually remembered him. They had only met once before, and to be honest he didn't really think of himself as being a real memorable guy. It was a quick battle, one that he had lost, so he didn't think much of it. Then again, if that were the case he wouldn't have gotten that letter from the Unova League asking him to be Nacrene's Gym Leader. So, despite all his doubts and all, he was forever grateful to the Dragon-typer for helping him out.

The young man cleared his throat, adjusting his glasses and shuffling his feet nervously, trying to come up with the words to say. "Uh, eheh... Y-Yeah, I guess s-so..." he said, finally breaking the silence again. Why he was this shy around people, one could only guess. "It's, uh... It's been g-good, I'd s-say.... Got everything s-set up, so I, uh... so I, uh, decided to, um... Stop by, maybe s-see the family, and maybe, uh..." As he stuttered on, his Pansage looked up at him, tapping his foot impatiently. If the grass monkey could speak, he'd most likely tell his trainer to "spit it out already." Still, he had to give credit where credit was due, even if he didn't quite understand the situation. "I, uh... Also wanted t-to, y'know... T-Thank you, L-Lauri... for, uh... y'know, referring me t-to the L-League..."

Yeah, it would take a lot of work to break him of this habit of his...
