I feel this is a good starter question for hot button debates, and one that we'll have a few more varying opinions on, but should the US government allow the legal use of marijuana?
Follow up: If yes, what restrictions would you place on it, if any?

Hell no. It's marijuana. If that gets legalized, we're all screwed.

People are already smoking pot anyway. It's not like legalizing it would make people magically appear. The rates would stay about the same. By the by, I had to google the whole pot causing cancer thing because I'd never heard that before. Learn something new everyday I guess.

They're inhaling the same amount of smoke when it's not legal. The cancer rate won't go up.

More people would do it is what I'm saying. Not as much as you're thinking. I'm not saying there aren't going to be those incidences where people decide that it is okay for them to smoke pot because it's legal, but the drug is pretty much readily available now. I'm sure I could probably go buy some right now, and I'm not sure how to do that, so I don't see a giant group of people just going out and getting high just because it would be legal. Plus, legalization means government regulations (meaning an enforced age limit would be set and probably restrictions as to what you're prohibited from doing while high, like with alcohol) and it means you're cutting off one of the major source for illegal immigration: smuggling drugs. Basically, "everyone's going to start getting high" is just a wild accusation that has no basis in reality. That's like saying everyone gets drunk because alcohol is legal.
