It seems that from time to time people use these terms differently in regards to what they mean in regards to a magical practice. So here is the discussion: What do you feel are the definitions of the above words?
My personal view of these separate terms is as follows;
A
witch is a practitioner of an esoteric religious based system of mysticism, often with a strong link to the elements and nature in general. An individual identified as such often practices this form of magic in accompaniment with the use of practical treatments such as herbal remedies and aroma therapy to accomplish desired results.
The terms
wizard or
sorcerer I feel are synonymous in that they may or may not have a religious link to their practices and engage in a wider variety of mystical workings from a wide array of origins rather than staying firmly with one particular type of magic. For example they may be well versed in the use of traditional spell workings from, for example, Druidic mysticism, but may also dabble in conjurations, Buddhist or Shinto traditional workings, and similar, For some the term may be merely the term they use to denote a male witch due to the stigma of the original meaning of the term "Warlock" as a breaker of oaths.
On the other hand
magician can be, as stated above, a practitioner of stage magic or it can be a generalized term for anyone who practices some form of magic.
Ultimately each term has developed various stereotypes that can contribute to misunderstandings, therefore any definition you place upon each would be little else but personal opinion.
