"Once upon a time, there were two brothers named Will and Jake. Ever since these two boys were young they had a certain presence that tended to attract the fairies. They attracted so many creatures in fact, that it seemed as though everywhere they went there was a redcap, a brownie, or something of that sort about. When they were young, the creatures frightened them and they wanted nothing but to be rid of them. They hid from the creatures and tried to avoid them as much as possible, but found that when they did the creatures just got more agitated with them and caused them even more problems.
Jake and Will went on with ignoring them for years and years until they finally did something that made it so that they could no longer ignore them any longer. They-"
"No, Mommy don't say it I don't like this part," whined Will as he plugged his ears.
"Will you stop being a baby Will. It's not that scary," Jakob complained as his younger brother continued sitting there plugging his ears," fine then if you won't let mom say it then I will. THE DAD DIES."
As Jakob yelled this, Will unplugged his ears and frowned softly. "I hate you Jakob," the younger child stated just for his mother to laugh some.
"Alright, Alright you two. Settle down and let me finish the story alright?"
"Alright mom," the two stated in unison before letting their mother continue.
"Anyways, once the boys' father was killed, they realized that they could no longer ignore the fairies. They had to stand up to them and make sure that they never hurt anyone again. From that day forth, they decided they would become fairy hunters and would help protect humans from those wicked little things if it was the last thing they would do. Do you two know who these little boys were," their mother asked.
"They are the old farts who wrote the fairytales," Jakob stated as he looked to his mother," and they made all of that up."
"Nu-uh," Will yelled out.
"Uh-huh."
"Nu-uh"
"Uh-huh"
"Nu-"
Both boys shut up as their mother chuckled. "Alright you two. Hush now and go to sleep. You both have school in the morning."
"Aww...but Mom."
"No buts now go to sleep," she stated before kissing both boys on the forehead and heading off," see you in the morning." That was the last time that Will and Jakob ever saw their mother for that night, she disappeared. Shortly after her disappearance, they were sent to live with their aunt in the city. Years passed by and the two of them grew to forget their mother's story about fairies and have long searched for the reason of their mother's disappearance. They search and search before finally realizing that it is home where they must return to find out this mystery and thus home is where they return. There they will find so much more than little clues and will come to remember their mother's stories and come to see them as fact.

After about a day of travel and far too much whining from his brother, they were finally back to the place that they had once called home. Jakob had sworn he'd never see this place again, but yet here it was, right in front of him looking just as it used to. As the young man looked upon it, a soft smile tugged at his lips. This smile was quickly erased though as he heard his brother speak up about the house. "Yeah, yeah, shut up and help me take our stuff inside," Jakob said before picking up a few bags and starting towards the old home. As he neared closer and closer, Jakob started to think about his childhood. There by the lake he had been taught to swim by his mother and over there in the forest he'd played tag with his brother until dark. He could still remember his mother scolding him for trying to stay out late one night, threatening that the fairies would come to get him. A soft chuckle escaped his lips some at the thought and he shook his head some. "Silly Mom," he muttered to himself Once Jakob reached the door, he paused for a moment to look at the design. It was so dirty and faded. A frown formed softly upon his lips at this and he carefully rubbed away some of the dirt so that you could see the yellow and orange glass beneath. Jakob took a moment to admire the workmanship of it before carefully opening the door. Inside there was dust and dirt all over and it was very dark. At this, he carefully moved to flip on the light, just to find that it wasn't working. "Wonderful. No electricity," he grumbled before moving into the room that was illuminated by an orange glow. "Will, will you hurry your a** up?"

With a stretch and a muted moan, Will unfolded his limbs from the car. "God, Jake, aren't you ready to trade this rustbucket for something with some leg room?" He heard some kind of response, probably sarcastic and derogatory, thrown back but the words didn't settle in his mind. His thoughts were on the house in front of him. He could remember being scared of this house as a kid. He had always assumed his memories were faulty, the exagerations of a ten year old mind turning creaky boards into brownies and tree branches on the windows into fairy callings. It wasn't like his mother's stories had helped either. He ducked his head and smiled ruefully. A full decade later and thoughts about her still made him want to laugh. Or cry, it was kind of a toss up. But he was here now and Jake was going to start b*tching if he didn't focus on the moment. Will grunted at the lack of power and shrugged one shoulder. He dropped his bag on the heavy wooden floor carelessly, noting that it would probably be impressive if dust hadn't puffed up with their footsteps. "This place is turn of the century, easy. I think we've got a flashlight in the trunk, but for the most part we'll have to figure out how to use these oil lamps."

Jake sighed some at the other's words and then wandered into the center of the room to check it out. "Well, you can go ahead and do that if you want. I'm going to start cleaning up this place before it gets dark," he stated simply before starting up the stairs and stopping at the windows. There he rubbed away some dust with his sleeve and looked outside to the garden. Jakob took a moment to look this all over before looking down to his younger brother. "Are the cleaning supplies still in the car or did you bring them in," he questioned as he started down the hallway, moving towards their old room. Upon reaching their room, Jakob carefully turned the handle and pulled it open. Inside sat two small beds and a few old toys that had been left behind during the move. Jakob looked over the old dusty room quietly and slowly started to walk towards his bed. Once next to it, he carefully placed his hand upon the faded covers and sighed. Things had changed so drastically from when he'd last been here. The beautiful colors of his home had disappeared, the garden had been overgrown with weeds, and the lake was dirty. This place had been through hell since his mother had disappeared and since they had been taken away from their wonderful home. Jakob's frown deepened some at the thought and his rubbed his temples lightly. He had to forget all this sad sh-- or he swore he was going to start crying and that was something that he would not allow. Jakob sat like this for a few moments before suddenly hearing some movement nearby. At this, he was quickly snapped out of his thoughts and looked around. "Hello," he called out, just to realize that he'd probably just said hello to a rat. A chuckle escaped his lips some at the thought, but was quickly stopped as he suddenly heard another noise, but this time closer. The young man jumped a tad at this and turned his head towards the noise. Nothing there. Jakob stared quietly at the spot, thinking perhaps that whatever it was might appear again, just to hear a loud thump from behind him. At this, Jakob quickly pulled his feet up from where they were and scooted away from the side of the bed. Jakob stayed like that for a few moments before realizing that he must look ridiculous and scooting over towards where the sound had come from. He then looked down. There in the middle of his and his brother's beds sat a book that was very familiar to him. It was his mother's copy of the Grimm Fairytales. Upon seeing this, a soft smile graced his lips and he carefully picked it up. " Why hello there. I don't know how you got there, but I'm glad to have found you," he said simply as he looked over the beautiful, though faded cover. Jakob took a few moments doing this before getting up from his spot and going to look for his brother. Once he found him, he held the book up for him to see. "Look what I found."

Will rolled his eyes at his brother's back and started to wander the rooms. There was dust and cobwebs, some window trim in need of care. Apparently they had inherited a fixer-upper. 'Well,' he thought, 'Not inherited per se. More like we're the caretakers.' After all, what son just gives up on his mother? They would find her or they would find whoever took her. Either way, he would get closure. Jake, oblivious as he was, chose that moment to barge into the room and for once Will was glad that his brother had all of the subtility of a monkey wearing tap dancing shoes. Once his eyes took in the fat old book he had to keep them from jumping out of his head. "Mom's stories!" He grabbed the tome, ignoring the look on Jake's face, and started flipping through it with his personal mixture of speed and reverance. It was like holding the family history in his hands. There were even notes scribbled in the margins. "Holy sh*t, Jake. this is awesome."

Jakob frowned deeply as the book was practically ripped from his hands and watched as Will flipped through it so quickly. "Be careful with that Will. It's like fifty years old," Jake said before taking the book back," you need to take better care of this. One wrong quick flip could rip an entire page out. The binding of this book isn't very good." As he spoke, he held the book to his chest in a protective manner. He wanted to make sure it was well protected and safe. After all, it was one of the last pieces of their childhood. Jakob thus moved over to his bag and tucked it safely inside. "We can look it over once we get the house a bit cleaner. Until then, it stays in there," he stated before starting off to the car," I'm going to grab the cleaning supplies." Soon after, Jakob returned with said supplies and handed Will a duster. "Start dusting off the railings, ledges, and the windows. I'll start sweeping," he said simply before doing exactly that.

Will scoffed and made a face at his brother. "Hello, who works for Mr. Dalsy, the world's b*chiest book collector?"
But he allowed his brother to put the text away for safekeeping despite the slight to his bookkeeping skills. When Jake left the house Will didn't bother to follow, just stopped in the foyer next to their stuff. Stooping to grab his own backpack, he ruffled inside until his found a crumpled sheet of paper and a pen somewhere at the bottom.
He began formulating a list by glancing around. 'Dust, polish the wood, vacuum, wait we don't have one. Damn, we'll have to sweep. Rugs have to be aired,' he thought. He was going to continue but the door opened and suddenly there was a floppy sticky was shoved in his face.
Instantaneous and uncontrolled, his inner child took control and whined, "Why do I have to dust?"

"You have to dust because you're taller. Now shut up and get to work," he said before starting his work. As he did so, he watched carefully as the dust and dirt slowly started to go away and smiled. The floor looked as good as new. It seemed to have suffered no rotting or anything else of that sort and the same simple design that it had previously had. Jakob thought some on this before quickening his pace. Once the foyer was nice and clean, Jakob started on the upstairs halls and the bedrooms. As he did so, he carefully looked over all things in the rooms and found a bit of a problem. There were only three beds in the entire house and two of them were to small for either of them. A frown formed upon his lips at the thought and he carefully peeked his head into the hall. "Will I'm sleeping in mom's room. You can have our old one," he called, hoping that the other would just accept without thinking about it.

Will huffed but began the chores. He started with the upper corners and worked his way down and around all the surfaces. There weren't many things left on display, just old photographs and empty vases or bowls. It was boring work but the kind he was used to where he could let his mind wander.
He heard his brother's shour from upstaris and grunted to himself. "Yeah, whatever," he yelled back. He supposed then that they had to wash teh sheets. What if there were bugs in the beds? He'd read something about a bedbug pandemic in the states this year or something like that. He didn't want to spend all night swatting at tiny bites and creepy crawlies.
With that thought in mind, he ditched his task to go upstairs and demand that Jake find a washer and dryer. He poked his head into a room that he recognized as his mother's and found his brother barely even working. "Hey, why don't you do something useful and clean the beds. There's no way that I want to sleep on something that hasn't been washed in ten years."

Jakob grinned some as the other accepted without protest. Now, he was sure there would be protest later, but all he had to say now was that will had already said that it was alright. A chuckle escaped his lips some at the thought and he soon continued his sweeping. Jakob continued doing so for quite awhile before hearing his brother enter and looking up. A soft frown appeared on his lips at the other's complaint, but, instead complaining as well, he just sighed. "Alright I'll go take care of it, whiny," he stated simply before setting his broom to the side and scooping up the blankets, sheets and pillows. Jakob went in and out of each room, picking up anything that could be washed, and then shoved them back into his old beat up sedan. "I'll be back soon Will. I'm heading over to the laundromat," he called before getting in his car and heading off.

Will waved a hand over his shoulder as he left his brother alone. He took his time with more dusting and opened a few windows to try and air the house out. They were stiff at first but they worked so he supposed that was all that could be hoped for right now.
He heard when Jake took off and he found himself sliding into his zen state. Being alone tended to mean he enjoyed more quiet time and Will had no problem with spending hours on end without someone to talk to. Food, on the other hand, he could not go without.
He sought out the kitchen and realized he had made two mistakes. One, there was no way that any food had been left in the house would be edible by now. Two, the kitchen hadn't been cleaned in a decade. Much like the idea of sleeping on a dirty bed, he winced at the thought of eating off of plates and cooking out of pots that had that many germs on them.
Instead, he went back to his bags and dug out a meal bar, pulling out his iPod too. He popped the buds into his ears and started to dance around the kitchen, checking that the cupboards were empty and tossing out the few nonperishable food items that had clearly perished. Distracted as he was, he failed to hear the quiet creak of the pantry door and mutter of quiet voices.

Jakob drove for about fifteen minutes before finally reaching the nearest town. There he drove up and down the streets for five minutes before finding a laundromat. Once it was found, a grin appeared on the males features and he slowly started loading in all the things that needed to be washed. Three washers were then loaded up with three comforters, six pillows, three sheets, a few extra blankets, and his shirt. Once they were filled, he started up the washers and watched as they spun round and round before getting bored starting to read a book. Jakob did this for awhile before hearing them ding and quickly transferring them over to dryer. He then sat for a few more moments before hearing the dryers ding and folding up the comforters and such and pulling on his shirt. Jakob loaded all of the things into the car and then started back home. After about fifteen minutes, he arrived back with sheets in his hand. "Will, come get your sheets and such," he called out before looking at the floor. How had it managed to get dusty again? A dissatisfied look appeard on his features at the sight and he turned to the room that he heard his brother in. "Why is the floor all dirty again?"
