Where do you belong? Benkei then woke up, he looked around and rubbed his head. Benkei was sixteen, and had black hair. The hair was slightly ruffled due to just waking up. He wore loose fitting clothing to sleep in. He yawned and sat up in his bed. He looked around the stone room he slept in. The walls were covered in bright colored tapestries, all showing the same symbol of a silver sword encased in golden flames, the hilt pitch black. A weapon rack was beside the head of his bed. The weapons on it were all wooden, except for one iron short sword. He pushed himself up and walked over to the dark brown cabinets to get changed.
A few minutes passed, and Benkei was now leaving his room. He was now dressed in a tunic that showed the same symbol as the one of the tapestries. The tunic was a dark blue, and he wore black pants. Benkei grinned as he looked down the hall. The carpet floor felt good under his bare feet as he walked. The walls were stone, lined with paintings. Benkei walked past other doors, his attention focused on the scent of food.
"Benkei!" Exclaimed Soyen. Soyen was the same age as Benkei, and she was in a green short dress. She had long black hair that flowed behind her as she approached Benkei. "You're not supposed to be barefoot in the castle!" Said Soyen.
"I'm barefoot?" Benkei looked down at his feet. "Oh. Sorry, just a little tired." Said Benkei with a yawn. "You know yesterday was a long day."
"A long day? How am I supposed to know? You come back stained in someone else's blood, and bruised! You don't tell me anything!" Said Soyen angrily.
"It's a knight's oath." Said Benkei with a grin.
"Hmph." Soyen turned away and sighed. "Come get some food, father wants a word with you." Said Soyen.
"What does the King want?" Asked Benkei. His eyes were wide, his mouth open. "Am I in trouble!?"
"Who knows." Said Soyen with a grin, she enjoyed Benkei being surprised and frightened. "He might of sounded a little angry, I don't remember~." Said Soyen innocently as she hid her sly grin.
Benkei sighed and walked past her. "Soyen..."
"What?"
"It's nothing." Said Benkei with a snicker.
"What?! What did you want to say?"
Benkei laughed to himself as he walked down the hall again, leaving Soyen annoyed. She sighed, and watched him leave. "He can be so annoying." Said Soyen with a shy smile.
Benkei soon left the hall, and walked into the large main hall. He looked around sleepily. He looked at the two large wooden doors, both were wide open. Knights dressed in full armor marched up and down the hall. Benkei looked over at the large metal throne doors. Above in gold lettering, said "You are in the King's presence now." Benkei sighed, and continued on to the kitchen. The kitchen was polished, all smooth and white. Chefs yelled orders and cooked. Benkei walked past them to the dining area. Wooden tables dotted the large room. One long table was up at the front, with food of all kinds sitting there, waiting to be eaten. Benkei made his way over to the table, where he grabbed some eggs, and sat down.
"Benkei, you look tired." Said Shaku with a laugh. Shaku was a few years older then Benkei. He had somewhat tan hair, and was dressed in more noble looking clothing.
"Yah, a little." Said Benkei.
"So did you hear? The King is asking for you." Said Shaku with an optimistic grin. "What do you think it's about?"
"Something good, I hope." Said Benkei with a doubtful sigh.
"Oh come on, hero." Said Shaku jokingly. "I know you're tired, but try to be a little more positive, I trained you to be better." Shaku grinned.
"We sparred, you didn't train me." Said Benkei, then he grinned. "I didn't need any training! I was strong back then, and I'm even stronger now."
"I know, I know." Said Shaku. "Good to see you a little more awake."
"Well, I need to be. The King wants to see me, I need to be awake for it." Benkei grinned as he felt more like his old self. "Can't be tired when I accept whatever award he plans to give me!"
"Ha, there we go!" Said Shaku with a laugh. "Awake and normal, much better." Shaku sat down at the table, and watched Benkei eat.
"Do you have to watch?" Asked Benkei.
"Yep, got nothin' else to do." Said Shaku as he widened his eyes.
"You creepy owl." Said Benkei with a grin. He finished eating and stood up. "Well, I'm going to the throne room now."
"I'll come to." Said Shaku as he got out of his seat.
"But the King-"
"We can try at least." Said Shaku with a shrug.
"Alright." Said Benkei, and he pointed towards the door that led from the dining area to the main hall. "Onwards, henchmen!"
"Henchmen?"
"Hehe." Benkei grinned as he walked towards the door.
"You think you're faster?" Shaku accepted his own challenge and raced in front of Benkei.
"Eh?! Hey, I lead!" Exclaimed Benkei, and he ran after him. A knight shook his head at the two as they ran through the door and towards the throne doors.
"I wonder when they'll start acting their ages, and ranks..."
The two stopped at the large throne doors. They stood up straight, held their heads and shoulders high, grinned at each other as if it were some private joke, and pushed the iron doors.

"Ah, Benkei. Good of you to come." Boomed a loud yet friendly voice. Benkei and Shaku entered the throne room. It was lit with blue, green and red flames. The flames floated around the walls, circling the large room. Two knights stood guard by the throne chair that held the King. The King looked to be in his forties, and was dressed in dark red clothing. He had a long cape that folded behind him. He wore a crown on his head, it shined brightly as if showing itself off.
"Your Majesty, I came as soon as I could." Said Benkei.
"And I joined him, if it's alright with you, My Lord." Said Shaku. The two knelt in front of the King's chair.
"It quite alright." Said the King with a smile. "Benkei, well done yesterday." Said the King.
"Thank you." Said Benkei. "The clan will never attack the village again."
"That's great to hear." Said the King. "Now, the reason I called you..." He sighed, his smile is gone. "There have been reports of a demon."
Both Shaku and Benkei jumped to their feet. "A demon!?" Exclaimed both at once.
"Yes, it's appearance is unknown, only that it has the ears of an animal, and the body of a human. Everything else was left out."
Benkei grinned, "so, we need to go slay it right?"
"I'm sorry, but there will be no others joining you." Said the King. "Benkei, you are the captain of the kingdom's military forces." The King grew more serious. "I only gave you the rank because of you're power and because Soyen asked me to. She told me that you wouldn't disappoint me, so I hope you won't disappoint me on this mission." The King smiled, "I have faith in you Benkei, but slaying a demon will make me feel more sure about you being captain."
Benkei grinned, "you can consider it dead." Said Benkei. "Besides." Benkei had an optimistic grin. "This'll make me famous, and it'll feel good to know I might of saved countless villages from being destroyed at the hands of a demon."
"I'm glad to hear that." Said the King with a smile. "And maybe I'll even allow you to marry my daughter."
"E-Eh?!" Benkei's face turned bright red.
The King laughed heartily, as did Shaku. Benkei rolled his eyes and walked to the door. "Don't you die out there, Benkei." Said the King.
Benkei stopped, and grinned. He held up his fist, "I won't die, not until my will stops burning." Benkei left the throne room, and walked down the main hall.
"Do you think Benkei can actually kill a demon on his own?" Asked Shaku.
"I don't know..." Said the King. "I hope so though, I don't know if Soyen could survive without him."
"So what was the meeting about?" Asked Soyen when she spotted Benkei.
"Secret." Said Benkei with a grin.
"Quit keeping secrets!" Said Soyen. "You never tell me any secrets, not even when we were little."
Benkei sighed, "Soyen, follow me." Said Benkei.
"You're going to tell me?!" A huge smile grew across her face.
"Only this once though, since it might be my last."
"What?!"
"Just follow me to my room, and I'll explain it all." Said Benkei with a shrug. The two walked quietly down the hall, and into his room. Soyen sat on his bed, and Benkei leaned on a wall. Benkei told her everything about the latest quest he was about to take.
"A demon!? How can father be so stupid!?"
"Don't worry, I can handle it." Said Benkei.
"How can you be so sure? It's a demon, after all!"
"A demon is nothing, I'll come back in one piece, I promise." Said Benkei with a reassuring smile.
Soyen looked down, "Benkei, please be careful." Said Soyen.
"I will." Said Benkei. "Trust me, I'll come back and we'll relax."
"Like when we were little?" Asked Soyen as she raised her head.
"Yep, we'll sit under that tree in the outskirts of town, and watch the clouds, and talk about all the nonsense we used to." Said Benkei. "Just like old times." He grinned and gave her a thumbs up. "Only I'll be a hero now!"
"Good luck." Said Soyen with a shy smile as she looked him in the eye. The was a long awkward silence.
"Well, I guess I need to go to the King again." Said Benkei.
"Why?"
"I just remembered I forgot to ask when I'll be going, and where." Laughed Benkei.
"Idiot!"

Where will you go? Benkei shook his head as he pushed himself out of bed. "So the mission is tomorrow..." Benkei sighed, and looked over at his weapon rack. "It's going to be a long journey, I'll start tonight instead." Said Benkei to himself as he walked from his bed over to the iron sword on the rack. He gripped the hilt of the sword, and slashed the air several times. "A demon...My first demon, and my first solo mission." Benkei gulped, "quite a lot of firsts tomorrow." Laughed Benkei.
There was suddenly a knock on the door. Benkei was silent for a moment, and put his sword back on the rack. "It's me." Said Soyen through the door.
"Oh, come in." Said Benkei. The door slowly opened and Soyen came in. She walked over to his bed and lied down. "Hey!"
"I like this bed." Said Soyen with an innocent smile.
Benkei sighed, and picked his sword up again. He continued practicing his strikes on the air. "So why are you here so early?"
"I wanted to ask you something." Said Soyen as she looked up at the ceiling of Benkei's room. It was smooth, and dark. "That mission tomorrow...are you sure you can do it?"
"I'm one hundred percent sure." Said Benkei with a grin.
"I tried to reason with father, but he said he needed to test you. He won't let anyone come with you."
"I'm an one man army, you know." Said Benkei jokingly.
"Why aren't you worried? You're strong, but you aren't ready for a demon!" Exclaimed Soyen. "You'll be killed, slaughtered, it's not a normal animal, or human, but a demon!"
"Soyen, it'll-"
"It's going to be strong, and fast!" Yelled Soyen. She covered her face to hide the tears. "I don't want you to go, I want you to stay here. I don't want this to be the last time I see you alive..."
Benkei was silent. He placed his sword back on the rack gently, and sat on the edge of the bed. "When we first met, I killed an ogre." Said Benkei with a smile. "Remember? You were sitting under a tree, and relaxing. I was a young peasant, without parents, or a weapon." Soyen seemed to relax. "It was going after you, but I stopped it. I was seven at the time." Said Benkei. "At seven, I took down an ogre with a wooden practice sword lying near the training area." He grinned, "and thanks to you, I got into the kingdom's military force, and even a room in the castle. I trained nonstop, day and night. I'm prepared."
"But-"
"It's been nine years now." Said Benkei. "Nine years of training, and sparring. I've endured nine years with you, a demon should be nothing." Said Benkei jokingly.
Soyen smiled, "that promise you made yesterday." Soyen paused and sat upright beside Benkei. "When you come back, we'll sit under that same tree, and watch the clouds?"
"And talk about all the nonsense we want." Added Benkei with a smile.
"You better keep that promise." Said Soyen as she jumped up and stretched. "It's a promise to a princess, you know." Said Soyen with a grin.
"I know." Said Benkei. "Though you don't act much like one."
"I act very refined and I make sure to use the most proper manners." Snapped Soyen. Then she smiled, and added, "maybe it'll rub off on you. Making you fit to marry a princess."
"Eh?"
"Oh, nothing." Said Soyen as she turned around to hide her blushing face. "Well, I'll be on my way. Rest up today, I'll see you off tomorrow."
"I was planning to leave tonight." Said Benkei as he scratched his head and looked away.
"What? You're leaving tomorrow." Stated Soyen. "That's an order, from a princess." Added Soyen.
"Alright, alright." Benkei laid down on his bed and sighed. "I'll leave first thing tomorrow then."
"Good, bye Benkei." Said Soyen as she left the room and closed the door gently.
"I'm so hungry..." Said a girl sitting on a log. She had long blue hair that seemed to shine in the sunlight that barely pierced through the towering trees above. She wore ragged, worn out clothing, that were old and dull with barely any color showing. She looked to be fifteen or sixteen and she smiled shyly as she looked around. On her head were two twitching snow white fox ears.
Benkei left his room after several minutes of thinking. He walked down the hall, and got his breakfast.
When Benkei sat down with a slice of ham for breakfast, he heard someone yelling his name. "Benkei!" Exclaimed Joshu. Joshu was ten or eleven, and was dressed in a very loose tunic and pants. He grinned widely at Benkei, his dark brown hair almost covered his eyes. At his side was a wooden sword that he managed to slip through his belt. "I heard you're going to slay a demon!" Exclaimed the excited boy as he halted in front of Benkei. "Can I come?"
"Sorry, not allowed to bring anyone with me." Said Benkei. He eyed Joshu for a moment. "Isn't that tunic a little big?"
"I guess it is." Said Joshu with a slight shrug. "Shaku gave me it! He said I've been very good with my training, and rewarded me with his old tunic!"
"Well, congratulations then." Said Benkei with a smile. "When I get back, I'll take you on a mission so you can earn a real sword."
"Really?!" Joshu seemed to jump up and down. "You need to get this mission down fast then!" Said Joshu with a wide smile. "I always wanted a real sword!"
"You'll get one soon." Said Benkei. "After I finish eating, how about we head out to the training area outside the gates?"
"Alright!" Exclaimed Joshu. He was too excited to stand still. The thought of a real sword in his hands made him smile as he pretended to grip the hilt of an imaginary sword. "I'll go to the training area to warm up! Finish eating soon, okay?"
Before Benkei could respond, Joshu was already racing out of the eating area, and down the hall. Joshu ran out through the opened wooden doors, and into the city. Wooden and stone buildings lined the dirt roads. Stalls were set up all over the streets, selling all sorts of goods. Joshu grinned and ran down the path to the gate of the city. He waved to the guards, and they smiled and nodded back. Joshi ran from the gate over to the large dirt circle. The circle was surrounded by grass. He ran to the center of the circle and looked around. He eyed the weapon rack filled with wooden weapons by the circle. A large forest that was spread so far out that he couldn't see the end was on one side, the other side was a long dirt road, and some old weak looking houses. Tall, skinny trees lined the dirt road on the grass.
Joshu stood in the circle and counted the trees until he came to the fifth one down. "That's the tree Benkei and Soyen always talk about!" Said Joshu cheerfully. "It's where they first met, and when Benkei defeated an ogre with only a wooden sword." Joshu smiled and snickered to himself. "It's so obvious they're in love, why won't one just confess their love to the other already?"
Benkei was finished with his meal and was walking down the dirt road. He looked at the stalls as he passed them. Merchants stood in front of their stalls and shouted that they were selling the best of the best. Civilians and outsiders both walked down these crowded streets, talking and buying. Benkei looked down the paths that branched from the main road to the castle. He smiled and waved to some of the people. He eventually made it to the city gates. "Captain Benkei!" Exclaimed one of the guards as he bowed his head.
"Why're you bowing?" Asked Benkei.
"We're supposed to bow to our superiors. Didn't you used to?"
"Nope." Said Benkei as he sighed and grinned. "I never bowed to anyone but the King, and I don't expect anyone to bow to me." Said Benkei with a shrug.
The guard stood confused, and Benkei walked by. His eyes automatically looked to the fifth tree. He stood there for a moment as if the memory was playing through his head. He smiled slightly, and woke up from his day dreaming when he heard Joshu yelling for him.
"Come on Benkei!" Exclaimed Joshu as he held a wooden sword. "Grab a weapon, and let's spar!" Joshu snickered, "I hope you're better then Shaku!"

Benkei grinned as he grabbed a wooden sword from the weapon rack. He pointed the tip at Joshu. Joshu grinned back as he took a stance. "So have you won against Shaku?" Asked Benkei as he slowly moved in.
"Not yet, but it's getting predictable." Said Joshu. "I can't beat him because I'm not fast enough yet."
"Then I'll fight slow for you." Said Benkei with a grin. Joshu nodded and lunged his sword forward. Benkei caught it with his hand. "You can't do a direct attack like that!" Said Benkei almost as a lecture. "You need to keep moving, especially if you want to do a frontal assault like this." He grinned and let go of the blade, making Joshu take a few steps back.
"But if I can't start out like that, then how?"
"Watch." Benkei grinned, and ran in. When he got close, he quickly side stepped and placed the edge of his wooden sword against Joshu's neck. "Kind of like that." Said Benkei as he withdrew the blade.
"Oh..." Joshu grinned, "I get it!" The two stood and exchanged blows, Joshu was attacking and Benkei was blocking. After about a hour of this, Joshu grew tired, and sat down. "Will I get more endurance when I'm older?" Asked Joshu, he was out of breath.
"Yep." Said Benkei cheerfully. "Keep training with me, and by my age, you'll be stronger and faster." Said Benkei with a thumbs up.
"Benkei, which is better..." Joshu relaxed a bit. "Training like this, or the training from a real mission?"
"Who knows." Said Benkei. "Both are great, but I suppose a real mission would really push you to the limit, giving you better training." Benkei shrugged and sighed. "Doesn't matter though, just keep working hard."
"That's what you always say." Said Joshu grumpily. "Any new advice?"
"Nope." Said Benkei as he sat down and lied on the dirt training circle.
Joshu sighed and lied back as well. "So what kind of mission will you take me on when you get back?" Asked Joshu.
"Something easy." Said Benkei, "and we'll work our way up from there."
"I want something challenging!" Said Joshu.
Benkei sighed, and watched the clouds for a moment. "Don't rush." Said Benkei in an almost whisper, as if he was talking to himself as well. "Don't worry, you'll get something challenging someday." Said Benkei as he pushed himself up and knocked the dirt off of himself. Joshu stood up and did the same.
"Well, I'm going back to the castle!" Said Joshu with a wide grin. "I'll train with Shaku when I have more energy again. I'll use what you showed me."
"Use that, and you'll win for sure." Said Benkei with a grin. Joshu nodded and dashed for the city gates. Soon he was gone, and Benkei was left alone on the training field. He sighed and walked over to the fifth tree down. He touched the smooth bark gently, and smiled. He sat down, and leaned against the skinny tree. The branches didn't stick out far, so he was able to look up into the clouds. He smiled and closed his eyes.
Hours passed, and Benkei sat under the tree sleeping. "Hey Benkei." Said Shaku loudly with a grin.
Benkei jumped to his feet, and rubbed his eyes. "Eh...?"
"The captain shouldn't be sleeping out here like this." Said Shaku with a grin.
"I was tired." Mumbled Benkei. "Besides, it's relaxing, and I used to live out here, remember?" Benkei grinned, "I used to sleeping like this, it's more soothing."
"Whatever you say." Said Shaku. "Well, Soyen has been looking for you, you missed lunch, and dinner's about to start."
"Why is Soyen looking for me?" Asked Benkei.
"Who knows." Said Shaku with a shrug. "Something about a good luck charm." Shaku sighed, "you ready to head back?"
"Guess so." Mumbled Benkei sleepily. The two walked down the city street. Stalls were beginning to close up, and the sun was setting. Crowds were slowly dispersing, and things were growing to a peaceful silence. They talked about fighting techniques, previous missions, and Joshu. "He's really showing promise." Said Benkei with a grin.
"Yah, he actually almost beat me today." Said Shaku. "He learned some new move, and does a quick side step before he attacks now." Mumbled Shaku. "He's an unpredictable warrior."
Benkei grinned to himself, he liked the thought of his training with Joshu paying off. "You remember the mission?" Asked Benkei.
"Which? The one you're going on?"
"Yah, that one." Said Benkei. "The demon...How much do we know about it?"
"Everything the King told you." Said Shaku with a sigh. "We have no idea of how big it is, how strong it is, or how fast it is." Shaku shook his head. "We don't even know the exact place. Just the forest it lives in..."
"Great." Mumbled Benkei. "Oh well, I get to fight a mystery demon." He grinned, "should be fun to say the least."
"So reckless." Said Shaku. "You talk as if you know that you both will have a good fight." Shaku sighed, and looked at the small crowds moving up and down the road. "It's a mystery demon, no one has been able to slay one in years. It could be incredibly powerful."
"I can handle it." Said Benkei cheerfully. He smiled at the castle. "Because in a fight, there's more then strength, or brains. I've got something to fight for..."
"You're too young to be getting sentimental." Laughed Shaku.

Benkei and Shaku entered the castle, and grinned when they smelled the food. An aroma of meat hung in the main hall, the smell made the two walk faster. "Benkei!" Exclaimed Soyen. Benkei stopped to see Soyen running at him. "I've been looking for you!"
"Sorry, I was-"
"I don't care, come with me!" She grabbed his hand and began to drag him away from the eating area.
"But-!"
"You can eat later, I want to talk to you in private." Said Soyen shyly as she continued to pull him. Benkei shot a glance at Shaku, silently asking for help.
"Enjoy the talk, Benkei!" Said Shaku with a devilish snicker. "I'll save you some meat, don't worry."
Benkei sighed and stopped resisting, he walked beside Soyen while trying to forget the smell. She let go of his hand as soon she as noticed she was still holding it. Benkei and Soyen both blushed. "So what do you want?" Asked Benkei after a few minutes.
Soyen stopped, and turned to face Benkei. She reached into her pocket, and pulled out a ring. "It's a good luck ring!" Said Soyen with a grin.
"Isn't it the guy who gives the girl the jewelry?" Asked Benkei jokingly. He took the ring and stared at it. "What's so lucky about it?"
"It's a good luck ring, do I need a reason to call it lucky?" Snapped Soyen as she looked away. "It'll help you when you fight the demon..."
Benkei stared at the ring a little longer. He then smiled and slipped it on his finger. "Alright, I'll wear it." Said Benkei. "Though it's a little embarrassing."
"Get used to it." Said Soyen with a grin. "But I want it back, when you're done with the mission!"
"Don't worry, I'll get it back to you." Said Benkei. "Thanks."
Soyen blushed and looked down. "No problem..."
Benkei's stomach then growled and he patted it. "Can we go eat now?" Asked Benkei innocently. He frowned as his stomach growled more.
Soyen perked up and grinned. "Let's get some dinner then."
The two walked down the hall to the kitchen and eating area. They sat with Shaku and Joshu. The four talked as they ate, all smiling and relaxed. The tables around them were all being used by knights and others who worked in the castle. Towards the end of the meal, the King walked in and stood in front of everyone. The conversations died down and their attention turned on him.
The King smiled warmly at everyone; he even waved. "I've come to get a cheer for Benkei." Said the King as he looked around the room. His eyes squinted as he looked at each table. "Ah, there." Said the King as he pointed at Benkei. "Your captain will be leaving tomorrow. He will be on a mission like no other. He will slay a demon." There was a moment of silence, knights glanced back at Benkei then back to the King. "It will be no easy task, no doubt." Said the King as his smile faded away. "The demon's powers are unknown. It may be a mage, or a warrior. There have only been reports of a human-looking silhouette with animal ears." The King paused and smiled. "But I'm sending Benkei to defeat it, the destination is only a day of travel away." The King smiled brightly at everyone. "I want you to cheer him on, and to wish him luck. He will be the first in many years to slay a demon!"
The knights clapped, and Benkei grinned. He stood up from his table. "I will bring you it's head." Said Benkei.
Knights cheered, some rolled their eyes. They all calmed down when the King raised his hand. "Benkei, see me once you finish your meal." He then bowed to the knights and left. Everyone in the dining hall stared at Benkei for a moment, then returned to their meals. The buzz of conversations filled the air once more.
"Why did he tell everyone?" Asked Soyen as Benkei sat down. "He went to so much trouble to tell you in private, only to exclaim it to everyone."
"Who knows." Said Benkei with a shrug. He took a bite from the slap of meat on his plate.
"You're going to be famous!" Said Joshu with a wide grin.
"If he comes back." Said Shaku, his seriousness suddenly killed the mood at the table. "Benkei, don't let the fame get to your head. You are fighting a demon, not an animal, not a human, but a full fledged demon."
"I know, and that's why I'll win." Said Benkei with a grin. "I told you outside, I have something to fight for, the demon doesn't." He glanced over at Soyen when he said that, and blushed. "Besides!" Exclaimed Benkei. "I'm the captain of the military power here." He paused and stood up. "I'm unstoppable!" Shouted Benkei, he expected cheers, but the surrounding knights looked at him, clapped a little, and returned to eating. "Not as enthusiastic as I thought..."
"Of course, no one likes a braggart." Said Shaku with a grin.
"Tch, I'll cut the bragging down a bit then." Mumbled Benkei. He then scarfed down his meat, surprising everyone at the table. "I'm going to see the King now." Said Benkei as he stood up. "I'll tell you what he said, if I'm allowed." He then ran out of the room, an eager smile on his face. He pushed in the throne doors. The colored fires that floated around the walls were much brighter then before, and in the center of the room stood the King. He smiled at Benkei and beckoned him in. Benkei walked in slowly, the flames gave off no heat like they usually did. They seemed to have a strange aura around them that filled the room.
"Benkei, do you remember the last demon slayer?" Asked the King curiously.
"Of course." Said Benkei, "Banzo."
"Very good." The King grinned as he raised his hand. All the flames in the room flickered, then rushed into the center of the room. The flames merged to create a silver flame above the King. "His sword was left behind on his last mission." Said the King. "When he left the castle years ago, he was stronger then before, and said he no longer needed the sword." The King sighed. "I was told to keep the sword, he said he found something much better." The King reached his hand into the flames above him. He closed his eyes, and then took his hand out. In his hand was a hilt of a sword. The hilt was blood red, with a black hilt guard and blue bottom. As he pulled it down, a blade began to emerge connected to the hilt. The steel blade was a shining silver. It seemed to glow from the light of the silver flames over head. The blade was wide and thick, and the length of an arm. He handed the blade to Benkei. "This is his sword."
Benkei stared at it, and reached out his hand. "What makes it special? It can't just be because Banzo used it."
"You'll see, hold the sword." Said the King with a smile.
Benkei hesitated for a moment, surprising himself. He closed his eyes and gripped the hilt. He felt a rush of power flow into him. He felt stronger, he lifted the sword as he King let go. Benkei stared up at it. "What is this sword?" Asked Benkei.
"We don't know." Said the King with a sigh. "Banzo only said a close friend forged it for him." The King smiled, "I hope you'll take care of it."
"Of course!" Said Benkei with a grin as he looked over the sword. "Is there some kind of sheathe for it?" Asked Benkei.
"The scabbard was lost apparently." Said the King. "We've tried all kinds of scabbards for it, but they shattered like glass when we put the sword in."
Benkei sighed, "so I'm going to be carry it around like this?"
"For the time being, yes." Said the King. "But don't fret, you'll think of something."
"I don't know..." Benkei sighed and his grin returned to his face. "Oh well, with this, that demon won't even stand a chance!" Exclaimed Benkei.
"I hope so, take good care of it." Said the King with a smile as he walked back to his throne chair. "Tomorrow morning is begin a quest like no other. Though due to the short distance, I expect you to be back in five days." The King sat down in his chair and let out a deep sigh. "But I will give you one week, if you do no return by then, I will send our army to destroy it and recover your body."
"That demon won't kill me." Said Benkei with a grin.
"I hope so..." Said the King. "You may leave, Captain Benkei." The King smiled, "slay the demon, and be sure to bring something back."
"Of course, I'll return successful, don't worry." Benkei bowed and left the room. The King sat in his chair and watched the flames hover around the room.
"To think Benkei could hold the sword...Amazing..."

Benkei held the sword's hilt tightly in his hand. He glanced down at it as he walked towards the throne doors to leave. Benkei smiled slightly as he felt the power move through out his body. He didn't feel too much stronger, it was another kind of power he couldn't describe. He pushed open the doors with his spare hand, and as he left, he saw a man dressed in the dull, brown uniform of a messenger passed him and enter the room. The messenger closed the doors behind him. Benkei glanced back at the closed doors. "Since when does a messenger get an audience with a king? Don't they usually..." Benkei mumbled to himself as he walked off, he tried to hide the sword. Luckily, others were still eating. He could hear the laughs of the knights, the cheers, and even his name was shouted a few times. He sighed and smiled softly as he looked through the large open castle doors, down the city and through the city gate. He imagined the quest as he walked off to his room.
"Was that him?" Asked the messenger as he stopped in front of the King. The messenger had the kingdom's crest on his back, but in darker colors.
"Yes." Said the King with a sigh. He looked down at the messenger. The King's eyes were no longer the hearty kind eyes, they showed anger, fear, and sorrow. "A shame he'll be killed."
"Are you sure you want me to do this? He's such a powerful knight, he could offer so much-"
"He can hold the sword." Interrupted the King angrily. The King's gaze was cold, the messenger was shocked and shivered slightly.
"Banzo's?" Asked the messenger after he cleared his throat.
"Yes, Banzo's." Answered the King. "Benkei is going to become just like him..." The King paused, and his clenched his hands on the throne chair's armrest. "He'll bring down this whole kingdom."
"But sir, Banzo was a hero!" Said the messenger, the King's stare made him regret saying it.
"Banzo was an idiot, he was nothing." The King sighed. "He was also too powerful. When he left me in possession of the sword because of that new power of his, he told me something."
"What did he tell you, My King?" Asked the messenger.
"He grinned at me, told me he knew the truth, and that this kingdom is going to crumble by his hand..."
"The truth?"
"I cannot tell you the truth." Said the King with a sigh. "All I can tell you is that I need the parts of demons. That demon he slayed must of known something and told him. Without the pieces..." The King trailed off, then looked back at the messenger. "In any event, Banzo and Benkei are the same, the sword has accepted them. They will have the same resolution. I cannot risk it. Benkei will learn the truth soon enough, and he'll come to finish me."
"But My King, what is the truth? I must know before I can-"
"I told you already..." Said the King. "I need the parts of demons, that is all."
"But for what?"
The King grinned wickedly at the messenger. "Did you know, there is a magic that allows you to fuse things within yourself." The King paused. "Demons all carry special abilities, usually within their bloodline. Collecting parts of them that carry that ability, I can merge the part into me, giving me whatever power they have..." The King sighed. "I want to rule the world, I guess that's as simple as I can be. That power will let me do that."
The shocked messenger stared up at his King. He could no longer look him in the eye and looked down. "H-How do you expect me to kill Benkei?" Asked the messenger in a shaky voice, he feared the subject of world domination.
"He will slay the demon, but with injuries. You will then kill Benkei when he's weakened, bring me the fang or claw of the demon, and the sword, if possible."
"But the sword will-"
"I know, if it rejects you, then leave it. I'll get it myself later then."
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Asked the messenger.
"Yes, with Benkei dead, not only will I get rid of a threat, but the anger of the city's beloved captain's death will give our army power. What motivates men to slay others is anger...They'll think he was killed by the demon, or some clan. I can pick any target I want to blame, and they'll jump at the chance to crush them and avenge him."
"But you're daughter-"
"Her love for him doesn't matter." Said the King sadly. "She'll find new love with time."
There was a silence in the room. "I will follow him tomorrow, and finish him for you, My King." Said the messenger, sorrow filled his voice.
"Good, your clan told me of your skills, I do hope you won't fail me." Said the King with a grin.
The messenger clenched his fists and nodded. He then left the room, leaving the King alone. The messenger stood outside the room. "He's nothing but a power hungry tyrant...Is that what the crown does to you?"
Benkei sat in his room alone with his new sword. "This sword...That demon won't stand a chance!" Exclaimed Benkei to himself. He then scratched his head and stared. I need to find a scabbard, but the King said none work..." Benkei looked under his bed, and dug through random objects. He then pulled out a scabbard. He looked at it for a moment and sighed. "Let's try it." He held the scabbard in one hand, and the sword in the other. He slid the sword easily into the scabbard, surprising him. "It held!" Benkei jumped up and cheered to himself. "Can't believe that worked." Benkei then stared at it, he saw a long crack go down the wooden scabbard, and suddenly it broke into pieces, leaving the sword bear. "Damn..."

How long will you fight? Benkei rubbed his eyes as he sat upright in his bed. He yawned and looked at the end of his end where he put his new sword. Benkei grabbed the sword by the hilt, and felt the strange power surge inside him, waking him up instantly. "Who needs caffeine now!" Joked Benkei as he got out of bed and stretched. He heard a knock on the door, and quickly slid the sword under his bed. "Come in." Said Benkei.
Soyen entered the room, she was wearing a light green dress. "You aren't ready yet?!" Exclaimed Soyen when she saw Benkei in his old clothes. "Get dressed, we're waiting at the gate to see you off!" Said Soyen as she turned around and left.
"What's her hurry?" Asked Benkei to himself with a sigh. He got dressed into his tunic and carried his sword out with him. He decided they can see it, the King never said anything against it. He walked through the city road, it was lined with villagers and citizens clapping. "Everyone's heard about the mission, eh..?" Benkei sighed. Though he grinned when he heard the occasional remark about him being the next Banzo. At the city gates, Soyen, the King, Joshu, and Shaku stood waiting. Benkei approached the gate and shook hands with the King.
"You'll get a nice title from this mission, Benkei." Said the King with a warm, fake smile. "You'll be known through out the world as the great demon slayer."
"You'll be the next Banzo!" Said Joshu with a wide smile, the King cringed at the comparison.
"Good luck, you better come back and tell us all about it." Said Shaku with a grin. "Tell me how easy it is."
Benkei grinned and nodded. "It'll be a great tale, everyone will know it by heart!" Said Benkei.
"And there's the ego." Laughed Shaku.
Benkei sighed, and turned to Soyen. She was looking down the whole time. When Benkei didn't talk for a minute, she looked up. She saw he was wearing the ring, and smiled slightly. "Be a hero, Benkei." Said Soyen innocently as she hugged him. Benkei began to blush, and some of the towns people whistled. "But when you come back, save the hero talk for later." Said Soyen in an almost whisper. "You need to keep your promise first."
Benkei smiled and nodded, he didn't know what the say. "Alright, you can just sit back and relax. I'll be back in no time!" Said Benkei with a cheer. He walked past the gate, and turned back to see everyone. They smiled and waved, the King was already gone though. Benkei shrugged, and began his journey.

Benkei, being excited to fight a demon with his new sword, ran most of the way to the area claiming to have a demon. He ran with a smile, and sword in hand. He wore no armor, not even a light chain mail. In his hurry, he forgot to bring any armor or shields. He didn't mind though, he put all his trust in the sword, and the magical powers that flowed through it's blade and hilt. While Benkei ran, he continued to see a shadow in the corner of his eye, he could of swore he even saw the crest of his kingdom on it. Benkei shrugged off the ideas as he slowed to a walk. He stopped when he reached a forest. The trees towered overhead, the leaves were still. No wind, or animals.
Benkei gulped and looked down at his sword. It was reflecting some of the sun, which gave it a glowing appearance. Benkei grinned confidently as he marched into the woods.
The demon girl walked through the woods calmly. Her eyes were half opened, and she yawned sleepily. She then heard leaves rustling in the windless forest. She turned and gasped.
Benkei walked along the leafy road through the forest. He held his sword in front of him, it's tip pointing at everything he heard. He looked around nervously. Benkei stopped and took a step back. In front of him was a large creature unlike anything he's seen before. It was much taller then him, and it's long red fangs shined. It's dark red leathery skin was scarred and scratched from past battles. It's clawed hands and feet dripped with blood from the dead bear on the ground. It's two dark blue eyes locked onto Benkei, and it turned to face him. It had a hideous grin that sent shivers down his body. Benkei took a stance with his sword.
"I won't let you live!" Exclaimed Benkei confidently, though he fought back the fear inside him. The demon girl was hiding behind a rock, curled up, trying to hide the fearful tears that streamed from her eyes. When she heard Benkei, she poked her head up, and looked over the rock to see a man facing the demon with a strange sword. She watched the man enter a hopeless battle.
Benkei shouted and ran forward. A single swipe of the demon's claws forced him to keep a distance, it's reach was too far from him. He frowned and sighed. He charged in again at full speed. The demon raised it's hand and slammed it down.
The demon girl watched the man catch the demon's fist with his bare hand. He was being pushed back by the demon now.
"On the pride of the Senshi kingdom!" Exclaimed Benkei. "I will not take a single step back!" He then pushed forward, knocking the demon back into a tree. Benkei charged forward, his sword raised high. The demon scowled and slashed a tree, and it quickly fell towards Benkei. Benkei stopped, closed his eyes and held his sword up. He opened them to find the tree split in two, he turned to face the startled demon.
The demon girl's eyes widened as she watched the demon get forced back by a mere man. A smile grew on her face, the tears slowly stopped. "He's what I was looking for!" Whispered the demon girl to herself.
The demon quickly slashed upward, and Benkei's sword flew from his hands and into a rock. The frightened demon girl jumped back as she watched the sword easily slide through the rock, leaving the sword tightly fastened within it. "No!" Exclaimed Benkei. He couldn't turn back, he moved forward. He punched the demon, forcing it to step back. Black blood oozed from it's mouth. It roared at him, and swiped it's claws at him again. He braced himself and was shot flying back. He landed next to the rock, which give him a confident smile. He grabbed the sword, and pulled it out. He slowly pushed himself up. On the other side of the rock, he saw two fox ears sticking up. Benkei stared for a moment, then turned his attention back to the large demon that was doing a victory cry as it charged at him.
"I won't take a step back, I swore I wouldn't." Said Benkei with a grin. "Looks like I can only charge!" He ran forward. The demon slashed at him, but Benkei's sword easily cut through the claws, and impaled it's head. The demon let out a deathly screech as it fell back, black blood was pouring out from it's head. Benkei let out a sigh of relief as he held his sword in the air. "Behold! Benkei the hero!" Exclaimed Benkei proudly with a triumphant laugh. Suddenly from behind the rock, he heard a shout.
"Behind you!" Exclaimed a female voice. Benkei turned around quickly, and moved his head to the side, avoiding a fatal stab.
"It's you!" Exclaimed Benkei as his eyes met the messenger's. The messenger frowned and stepped back. "You bear the Senshi crest!" Shouted Benkei. "Why are you attacking me!?"
"Only death will tell." Said the messenger with a grin as he ran in with the dagger. Benkei's adrenaline was drained, and his bones ached from the fight with the demon. His ribs felt like they were broken, the adrenaline could no longer mask the pain from the fight. He blocked weakly, and stepped back. "Ha!" Exclaimed the messenger as he quickly lunged forward. The blade impaled Benkei's stomach. Benkei eyes widened as he coughed up blood, and stepped back. "I'm sorry I had to fight you in this condition, Benkei." Said the messenger with a grin. Benkei held his hand over the wound, trying stop the bleeding.
"I am the-"
"Save it." Said the messenger with a sigh. "I don't care about your rank, your battles, or your pride." The messenger twirled the dagger in his hands. "I was sent to kill, and that's all I plan to do. I don't need some heroic final words."
"But by who?!" Exclaimed Benkei as he coughed up from blood. His legs then gave up, and he fell to his knees. Pain surged through his body, as he looked up. He stared into the face of the messenger angrily, refusing to admit defeat.
"The King." Answered the messenger as he walked closer. "He said you're a threat, and becoming like Banzo. Or something like that." The messenger shrugged. "I'm sorry, but you know as well as I do." The messenger grinned, "an order from the King is absolute." Benkei cringed his pain as he tried to lift the sword, it felt like it was draining him of his strength. In a desperate last attempt, he swung the sword quickly at the messenger's feet.
The messenger cried out in pain as he fell back, his feet were gone, replaced by a pool of blood. The messenger cursed and screamed. Benkei grinned as he stabbed the sword into the ground, and pushed himself up. He stood up with the sword of his sword, and looked down at the messenger.
The demon girl watched the man stare angrily down at the now footless man. The man with the strange sword sighed, and limped away, towards her. She quickly looked around, afraid to show her ears to him. She then had an idea, and ripped off the bottom of her shirt, and tied it loosely on her head, forcing her ears to stay low and hidden. She then stood up, scaring Benkei. "Where did you-"
"So you killed the demon, eh?" Asked the girl, interrupting him. "That was pretty good."
Benkei stared at her, and tried to ignore the wound on his stomach. "This is no place for you, go." Said Benkei weakly, he was too weak to care about what she said.
"You can't boss me around!" Exclaimed the girl. "We look to be the same age, therefore you have no authority over me." Said the girl with a sly grin.
"There's a demon that may be very well be playing dead, and a murderer over there." Said Benkei with a cough. "It's way too dangerous for you-"
"Yah yah, I've heard it all before." Said the girl with a sigh. "If you insist I leave, then you'll have to escort me back to your home." Said the girl with a grin and a shrug. "That's the only way."
Benkei groaned and nodded weakly. "If I make it back at all." Said Benkei, his hand was covered in the blood that leaked from his wound.
"But you're saying I can, then?" The girl jumped out from behind the rock, and cheered. "Lead the way, knight." Said the girl.
Benkei looked away, his face bright red. "W-Why are you barely dressed?" Asked Benkei
"What a gentleman." Said the girl with a snicker when she Benkei turn away. "I'll dress as I please though." Said the girl as she stood behind him. "Now, what's your name? I can't call you 'knight' the whole way back."
"Benkei." Said Benkei weakly, then added with a grin. "The hero."
"A hero? What an ego." Said the girl with a giggle.
"And you? What's your name?" Asked Benkei as he started to walk.
"That's a good question, I don't have one." Said the girl.

"What do you mean you don't have a name?" Asked Benkei as he limped ahead, leading the two out of the forest.
"I mean what I said." Said the girl in an irritated tone. "I don't have a name." She looked around, her eyes wide with excitement. "I never ventured out of these woods..." Said the girl. She stared in awe at the beautiful blue sky above them. The sun was setting slowly in the distance, and she watched it with an innocent smile.
"You've always been in the forest?" Benkei was surprised at this. "Were you sent into exile or something?"
"..." She was silent for a moment. "No comment." Said the girl teasingly. "It's beautiful..." She smiled up at the birds in the sky, then she grew serious. "How are you so calm? And how can you even walk?" Asked the girl. "You have a hole in your stomach, and you just found out that your king is trying to have you killed-"
"How long were you behind that rock?" Asked Benkei. She grew silent, and Benkei sighed. "Well, whether or not the King likes it, that castle and city...they're my home. I also have people to return to." Said Benkei. "Because of them, I'm able to push forward."
"But that hasn't stopped the bleeding." Said the girl with a snicker. "Resolve can't heal wounds."
"You talk too much." Said Benkei in an annoyed tone.
"What?!" Exclaimed the girl, feeling embarrassed and angry. "Maybe you talk too little!"
"Well, I do have a hole in my stomach..." Said Benkei.
"When it heals, you'll be talking just as much as me." Said the girl with a smile.
"We'll see." Mumbled Benkei. The sun was now gone, replaced by the silver moon. It's light lit the dirt road the two walked on. A slight breeze rustled the tree tops, creating a soothing noise. Benkei yawned and stopped. "I'm going to rest." Said Benkei as he leaned against a thick tree. He sat down and took his hand off the wound. The bleeding has stopped, but it was still painful. He flinched in pain as he adjusted himself to be a little more comfortable. The girl watched him carefully.
"You're just going to sleep here?" Asked the girl as she glanced around. "What if some thieves find us!" Exclaimed the girl.
"Calm down." Said Benkei with a yawn. "If anything comes, I'll protect you, don't worry." Benkei closed his eyes, and smiled. "I'm the Senshi captain, you know."
"With a hole in his stomach." Added the girl with a sigh. She sat beside him, and glanced at the blood stained sword at his side.
"Good night." Mumbled Benkei, he managed to ignore what she said, and fell asleep.
"Good night." Said the girl. She sat for a moment, then twitched her eye at the sound of his snoring. She turned towards him and glared. She then smiled and giggled, "I never knew someone could sleep soundly with a hole in them." Said the girl, and she then grinned. "Well, I do owe him, he killed the demon that was most likely tracking me..." She raised her hand and it begin to glow blue.

The King sat in his dark throne room, the flames danced along the way slowly. Their different colors shined lightly, and moved slowly. The King eyes were closed, and his hand over his mouth; he was covering his grin that grew on his face. He let out a slight chuckle, and rested his head on the back of his chair. "By now, Benkei should be fighting the demon, and will soon be-" The King stopped at the sound of a knock of the door. The doors slowly pushed in, without the King's response. "You can't enter here unless I let you!" Exclaimed the King angrily.
"Someone's angry." Said the man walking in. He wore long, loose robes. His long blond hair covered half his face. He looked to be in his twenties, but moved slowly. He grinned at the King's expression; fear and anger. "Banzo sent me to give you his regards." Said the man with a smile and a bow.
"What?!" The King was on his feet, his teeth ran against each other, his fists clenched in rage. "You mock me!"
"Banzo mocks you, not I." Said the man with an innocent smile. "I'm just the messenger."
"Why did he send you? Banzo-"
"Banzo's not the type to send someone to speak for him, I know." Said the man with a sigh. He shrugged slightly, his long sleeves swung back and forth. "He's not as fast as me, though." The man grinned, "we've heard that plan of yours."
"What?!" The King looked around, the hall outside the room was empty, not a single guard could be seen.
"They're safe, if that's what your wondering." Said the man. "As I said, I've heard your plan." The man raised his hand slowly, and beckoned at a shaking flame. It swift moved to his hand and rested in his palm. "It's easy to mimic a spell like this. I had this thing planted here when Banzo left, so we could listen in." The flame suddenly dispersed, and the man's hand fell back to his side.
"Do you think you'll win!? I have almost enough pieces..." Said the King with a devilish grin. His eyes looked different as he glared at the man in long robes.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Asked the man. He looked offended, and sighed. "I don't feel like fighting you. Killing a king will get me farther up on the wanted list." Said the man sadly. "Banzo will be doing it, and don't you fret old man, the group won't be reaching you for another year."
"A year?!" The King laughed, "in that time, I'll be immortal!"
"How foolish. You're going senile in your old age." The man smiled and laughed to himself. "The entire group is coming, I've already sent them messages. We're meeting here. We gave you a warning, hoping that you'll move the citizens out of the city." The man sighed, "we don't want any innocent people dying in this."
"You make it sound like it's going to be easy to kill me...I don't care what kind of rejects you plan to bring!" The King let out a loud laugh, the man covered his eyes and sighed.
"You're so loud..." Mumbled the robed man quietly. "Well, we hope it'll be easy to kill you, with our band of rejects." Said the man sarcastically as he glanced around. "I can sense you're holding something awfully powerful in that magic storage." He grinned, "you seem to think we've just been sitting around these past years."
The King frowned and watched the flames move across the walls. They danced, bobbing up and down slowly. They spun and flickered, changed colors every once in awhile, something that amused him greatly. The flames are small portals, leading to a storage not of this world. He can store anything he wants in there, such as demon parts and pieces. The frown disappeared to be replaced by a grin. "It doesn't matter how strong you've become, I'll kill you all." He turned to face the man with a grin. "Starting with you-"
The robed man raised his hand, stopping the King was speaking. "You don't want to fight me." Said the man innocently. "I am, but a messenger. I didn't come to fight." The flames around the room flickered and grew, then rushed over above the King. He reached into the flames, and pulled out a horn. The robed man lowered his hand and sighed. "Don't you ever listen?"
The King pointed the tip of the horn at the man, and grinned. "It will amplify my powers." Said the King with a wild laugh. "Be gone!" Exclaimed the King, and with a flick of the wrist, a ball of fire came rushing towards the robed man out of no where.
"A beautiful flame." Said the man. He rose his hand and caught it. The man's eyes widened and he stepped back. The flame dispersed, leaving the robed man startled. "Well, that was-"
"Surprising?" The King grinned down at the man. "Even with your magic, you couldn't deflect it with ease." The King smiled and sat down in his throne chair. "But I suppose you're right, it's not good to fight here." The King sighed and tried to hide his smile. "A fight with you now will leave my throne room destroyed, and I've taken a liking to it...Plus your blood on my rugs would be a pain to get out." The King let out a laugh, making the man roll his eyes.
"You done?" Asked the robed man with a sigh. "Your so cocky." The robed man looked up at the King's angered face. "You must be feeling high and mighty, but remember, my power wasn't released." The robed man shrugged and grinned. "Oh well, I'll let you have this victory, I must return to Banzo before he worries." The robed man turned to leave, then stopped. He turned and grinned. He took a dagger from his robe, and held out his hand. He slowly moved the dagger under his finger, letting a drop of blood fall onto the King's rugs. "Only a drop, but at least I won our verbal fight." Said the robed man with a sly grin. The King began to stand, but he stopped. The robed man was already gone, he vanished in thin air. The King sighed and sat back down.
Suddenly, guards ran into the throne room. "Are you okay, Your Majesty!?" Asked the guards. "Your room, it vanished! It just returned-"
"I'm alright." Said the King. "You don't need to explain what happened, I've got an idea. You may return outside."
The guards shot each other a worried glance, but they obeyed and left. They closed the throne doors slowly, and the King let out a tired sigh. He stuck the horn back into the flames, then they dispersed back into small flames, and begun moving across the walls once more. "What a pain..."

Benkei rolled around and slowly opened his eyes. He looked up into the sky, it was still dark, though he could see light slowly lighting up the sky. He yawned and closed his eyes, he listened to the birds chip. He felt relaxed, and at peace. His eyes widened when he realized the pain was gone. He sat upright, and quickly slid his hand over his stomach. He paused, and looked at his hand, no new blood. He lifted his shirt, the hole inside him was gone, replaced by smooth skin, there wasn't even a scar. Benkei looked around, and saw the girl sleeping beside him. "Did she..." He paused, the wrap on her head was weakening, and there was something pointy under it. He stared at it for a moment, and slowly moved his hand over her head. He made sure she was asleep, and lifted the wrap, two fox ears sprung up. Benkei's eyes widened and stood up, staring down at her in confusion. "This was the demon I was supposed to slay..." mumbled Benkei to himself. He looked down at his sword, it's blade was stained with the black and red blood. His hands made no move towards the hilt, they hung at his side.
"The King wants me dead, I no longer need to follow his orders." He sat down, and sighed. "What do you know...I'm travelling with a demon..." He smiled to himself and rested his head against the bark of the tree. He closed his eyes, and chuckled. "Who would of thought."
The sun was now looming above Benkei and the girl. It's rays slowly warmed Benkei, and he walked back and forth, waiting for the girl to wake up. She snored loudly, her ears would twitch every few minutes, which made Benkei laugh a little. "Why is she so tired?" Asked Benkei to himself. "We need to get moving, the King may have plans for everyone else in the kingdom..." He looked down the dirt road. The path led to the city, which was several miles away. Benkei frowned, and sighed. "I hope they're alright..."
"Hey, take a step over." Said a voice behind him. He turned to see the girl rubbing her eyes. "Step in front of me so the stupid sunlight won't bother me...." Mumbled the girl.
Benkei did as he was asked, and faced her. "Hey, did you heal me?" Asked Benkei as he lifted up his tunic to show his stomach.
"N-No, humans can't heal that well-" She noticed the piece of cloth that was on her head was now at her side. She yelped and quickly covered her ears with her hands."I....I..."
"Why are you hiding your ears?" Asked Benkei. "I only kill bad demons, just as I only kill bad people."
The girl sat still for a moment. She wondered if he was telling the truth or not. She looked at his hand, encased in dried blood from yesterday. It was empty, Benkei left his sword on the ground, near her.
"Besides." Said Benkei. "You probably saved my life, I'm in your debt." Benkei did a slight bow to her. "A human thanking a demon...Ha..."
The girl was quiet, and she looked up at him. Benkei had a sincere smile on his face, she looked down and slowly removed her hands from her head. "You're not scared either?"
"Why would I?" Asked Benkei, then he knelt down next to her and touched her ears. "They're kinda cute." Said Benkei with a grin.
The girl blushed and looked away. She was happy yet angry at the same time. A demon being called cute by a human, it was flattering yet disgraceful. "Well, if you're in my debt..." Said the girl as she grinned and rose to her feet. "Then you must do what I say!" She laughed to herself, she felt like power was being restored to her. "And my order is, once you go back to the castle, tell that stupid King what you need to, and see your friends, that you come with me." Said the girl.
"Come with you?"
"That King wants you dead, so you'll be safer outside the city gates." Said the girl.
"But why do you want me to come with you?" Asked Benkei, he stared at her doubtfully.
"You'll find out someday." Said the girl with a laugh. "Now, another order!" She smiled softly, and looked away. "I want you to think up a good name for me..."
