“I'm putting this sticky up here to help you all understand roleplaying in this guild.
First things first, your character is YOUR character. You decide who they are, what they feel, how they behave. You decide what their favorite color is, who they would like to shag, why they died. It is up to you to make those details and to make them pertinent to your character.
Does your character have a phobia about bees? why? Perhaps they died as a result of an allergic reaction to bee stings? You are the one to decide that.
When posting, you are writing for that character. Make sure that things they do are what your character would actually do. Don't put up what you think that we want you to put up, you aren't being graded here. Put up what your character actually would do.
Give your character flaws. No one likes a character that is perfect in every way. No one likes a story in which the main character does all their homework and eats all their vegetables. Make them have bad moods, surly, trip and fall when they try to walk and chew gum, or be a fashionista. Some character flaw that makes them interesting.
Think of Rangiku. The two things you think about when you hear her name is her boobs and her drinking. That's what makes her character unique in the Bleach world. Think about the rest of her personality and how it's used throughout the series, how those two aspects come into play when she's on screen and in the episode. How she uses those "assets" to get what she wants and how she reacts to others who see only breasts. She conned Orihime into letting her stay with her since they both had big breasts after all. Would the episode have been the same if she didn't have those?”
Think about any character that really stands out because of something. What is it that makes them well them? Every character in every show that plays any kind an important, or unimportant but interesting, role in the show has something about them that makes them unique. Think about yourself, your friends, your family, people you go to school or work with, they aren’t all the same are they. Their differences and quirks make them who they are, makes them human. That is how a character should be, even when the character isn’t themselves human, all things are different.
“Now think about your character. Do they have anything like that you can use in your roleplays?
The other thing I want to mention is character Plot.
In this guild we don't have one overriding plot line. Occasionally we will have a guild wide plot that everyone can participate in” but mostly it’s just you being your character and interacting with everyone else.
“And speaking on that front, if there is a plot going on, it is up to YOU to fit yourself into that plot line. I'm not going to tell you where to go and what to do,” though there are things that are expected of your character, they don’t always have to listen. If you’re supposed to be in class and you chose to go to the forest, that’s your choice. That’s the magic of it all, YOU DECIDE YOUR CHARACTER’S PATH!
“Want to come up with a soccer match between” boys and girls or different races, go for it. “Get together with those people and discuss your idea and how the basic concept works, then improvise off that basic theme as others participate in the roleplay too.”
Now, Go forth and play!
(Thanks to Captain Daven Moto a member of The Seireitei (A Bleach Roleplaying Guild) for posting this. I have edited and modified it to fit our guild.)
